I'm all about temptation, and seduction. The forbidden and the nasty. I'm fine with all of that.
But this....no.
I'm sorry, no.
No way.

I really don't know where to begin with this. I don't want to give any of the story elements away here so I will keep it brief for now.
I was very disturbed by some of the events in this issue. Certain events were very sad and tragic and really touched upon sensitive subject matter. I applaud the ability here to to present them without glorifying the events. I also applaud you for not shying away from them either. Nothing was done for the sake of getting away with things that a non password protected title couldn't. But this was by far the most 'password protected' issue of the series.
This was not a typical 'comic book' tale. This is a story that entertains at the expense of seeing people as they spiral downward before hitting rock bottom. I fear that the bottom is fast approaching for some.
Thank you Brian for not being afraid to tell this type of tale. I would never want DC to turn their entire line of books into this type of story. But this works because it was something that would never happen outside of this site. They would never allow the characters to endure this type of story and allow them to develop as characters as a result.
I am sure that not everyone will see things as I have here and thats ok. But, for what its worth I did feel it was important to let my opinion be known.

First, I really need to applaud Brian for the talent and courage to tell this particular story: I can think of few writers at the DC2 who could have pulled off this difficult issue with the raw, naked aplomb it required.
Adrian and Helena have been hurtling towards their own particular precipices since their DC2 debut--- it was inevitable that we find them where they are at the (masterful) cliffhanger at the end of this issue. I'm grateful we have a writer on this title like Brian, who is brave enough and talented enough to tell their story, with all the pathos and dignity it deserves. New Outsiders comes by it's MA label honestly--- there is nothing gratuitous about the sex and violence here, this is real human drama, and I'm glad we have a venue like this to tell these stories.
Poor Adrian and Helena...! Can either of them survive the consequences of their inability to face the trauma in their lives? I hope so, but I think it's safe to say this title will never be the same again...!
While this was a heavy story, I thought the little bit of humor that Reddy and Ollie interjected came at just the right moment, to relieve some of the oppressive sense of impending doom; in the midst of it all, these are still the costumed characters we love to read about.
Loved the cover, but I'm unfamiliar with the artists... Did we pick up more staff while I wasn't looking? If so, welcome aboard, fellas! Looking forward to seeing more of your work!

I'm all about temptation, and seduction. The forbidden and the nasty. I'm fine with all of that. But this....no. I'm sorry, no. No way. Whilst I can understand Arc's... Disapproval? Is that the word? Whilst I can understand where Arc's coming from, I see this as what would happen if you threw yourself into the depths of the underworld. You make yourself a target. These people don't play nice, they don't pussy foot around. You're going to get hurt, and this is the price Helena pays. I'm not saying she deserves it, or that it's always going to happen, I just think that there is always that risk of danger. Batman getting captured, unmasked, tortured. It's possible. It has happened, but he always escapes. But in all honesty, if you get captured by the bad guy, you probably aren't going to walk away unscarred. An example of this is in DC2's Nightwing #1, where Batgirl and Nightwing were captured by The Joker. Those characters were hurt. Those characters were changed. And I'm sure Brian will continue telling the stories that matter, that show the humanity behind the mask. Because honestly, sometimes, we don't get that peak. That's my opinion anyway.

I would first like to thank everyone who has commented. All opinions are welcome and appreciated. This was, by far, the hardest issue I have had to write, to date. Even more so then issue 6, in some ways. This issue was also something that had been in the works since I first stepped on board as writer of this title. One of the greatest parts of working on this particular title is that there is a freedom to bring more realistic story's to the table. It is also a double edged sword, since it can be very difficult to present them in a way that is honest and true to the characters, and the continuity of this book. I will say that I stand behind this story with the same conviction that I did with Broken Arrows. Not just because of the story itself, but because of the ramifications that are going to be felt for a very long time to come. Thank you Arcalian and Charlie for your honest reactions. John, I appreciate your support in my work on this book. It is always appreciated and gives me that extra boost when I'm tired, to keep writing. And David, of anyone on this site, this story is probably the closest I will ever get in dedication to you; the person who believed in me and gave me a chance with this book and these amazing characters. You also hit the nail right on the head. When this is all over, The New Outsiders will never be the same, again. But what kind of changes will it bring. Well only time will tell. I just hope you all stick around to watch those changes happen. I know doubt will write more of my thoughts next month, after this story is over. And if you think you know how all of this is going to turn out... well, there may be one or two more surprises left. And an awesome cover from two people I don't recognize, but thank very much! And of course to Mark who is always that little voice in my head that says, "You can do better then that, keep going." I can't do it without you, partner!

Man! Charlie you blew our cover! Haha get it COVER! Get it.....it wasn't us and yet it was and it was a cover..... * * Edge Of Darkness, wasn't that the soap that a certain Linda Danvers was once on? This is the kind of story that puts the worst of the real world into the idealized fantasy world of superheroes. I mean if you were to put on costumes and run around and try to fight organized crime, something like this is going to happen. While reading it I kept waiting for someone to break down the door annd save Helena or for her to find a sudden burst of strength, but alas. This is the world where Brian asks, "What happens if this happens to a superhero." And I for one can't wait to see how events affect them all. What is Red Tornado going to think of all this? Thanks Brian for writing these stories. I know some of the material can't be easy for you to write. ------Roy And that Lee guy-----I don't know about him....I hear he's kinda a jerk!

thank you Ult, Riz, and Susan. I was braced for a lot of different comments, but speechlessness was not the one I was expecting. But thank you for commenting on the inability to comment? seriously though, it sounds like, if nothing else, it affected you folks, and I know it affected me, so I'm glad for that.
