Hello to Planet DC2, readers!
Today is our second interview week, with another writer. This time, it's the turn of Brian Burchette (Starlord) to be in the spotlight! Here we go:
1.- What do you think about DC2 and your role in it?
I think DC2 stands as a true testament to what a group of fans can do with a site, when they set their minds to it. I have so much respect and awe for not just the writers of this sight, but for the artists that really do keep this place as special as it is. The Art Dept's dedication to make sure that their work is all out on time is amazing. The writers also work hard to make this a tight ship of stories that help make DC2 its own world, with its own history, and that's where I think this site stands out from so many.
As for my role? Honestly, I just do my best to write the best that I can and help where I can to keep this site going in the same great direction that it started in. The founders of this site deserve that. Also, I'm hoping in my new role as Editor In Chief of the Elseworlds titles, I'd really like to bring out some different and unusual stuff.
2.- What are your favorite titles on the site?
Teen Titans, Green Lantern, Action Comics, ANYTHING that David or Ellen does. Ellen's Elseworld tales are out of this world. No pun intended. Suicide Squad is probably in my top five as well. John has really created a wonderful piece of the DC2 world that more people should check out.
3.- Can you tell us of your experiences in the New Outsiders?
Honestly, it's very hard to describe. It's been a real roller-coaster ride for both the characters and myself. I think I've learned a lot about writing, and about these characters that have become bizzarely real for me. NO is always my top priority and I've always wanted to make sure that I live up to what David started on this title. It's really been one of the greatest experiences of my life. No lie.
4.- You've said that you came to the site hoping to write Teen Titans. If you could change things, would you write this title instead of NO?
Hell no! I wouldn't trade the NO for anything. I've really got so many more stories I want to tell about these characters. Both old and umm... new. That being said, I'm hoping to have a Teen Titans Annual out this fall that centers a bit on Starfire. But no, I'm happy where I'm at.
5.- Now, there are still weeks 'til it happens, but can you tell us about the upcoming Crisis? What is the plot and how was it made?
The what? There's a Crisis coming?! AGAIN?! Actually I don't want to give away the plot, just yet, but I can tell you that the first Crisis, which celebrated DC2's first year, was an event that brought together all the pieces that the creators had done, and really brought together the League. This Crisis (celebrating the completion of our second year!) brings up the question of what exactly are the rolls of our heroes.
The plot itself was created by several of our writers, and at this point is still being tweaked by them as well. Charlie, Brandon, Ellen, Scott, David, John, Mark, all have idea's that are creating this event.
6.- How long will it be? Will it be like the first Crisis, posting in different issues throughout the month?
It will run just over a month. The main story will be contained in its own mini series, but because DC2 is its own world, all the events that will happen, will also be felt in the seperate titles. Nobody is getting out of this one. Everyone will be affected.
7.- Any other stuff you might want to add?
A couple of things, I guess. The Crisis will also spawn at least two, if not three, new books, that I'm really looking forward to.
Oh, and if you're loving what DC2 is doing, folks, tell your friends. Invite them in! This is a great site that deseves a lot more attention than what it gets. And if you're not loving DC2, tell your friends, anyway. They may have better taste than you do.
8.- Any future plans or issues you have?
Issues? I have a ton of issues. I am working on a new monthly that will come out in September, that I'm really looking forward to. Other than that, just making the Elseworlds division the best it can be. Well, I guess I should leave with one teaser (even though my Editor will probably kill me): more changes are on the way for The New Outsiders. The group will be gaining a few new members in their third year.
Brian has done an amazing job in his New Outsiders run, spawning one of the most controversial and incredible issues of the site! Check his stuff!
Also, this week is the debut of the mini series by David Charlton, Gotterdamurung. The dark future of the DC2 starts this day!
See you next week!
