Here's another edition of Planet DC2, plus details of this week's new releases at DC2, DC3 and Marvel2. Details of previous and future DC2 releases can be found on the calendar.
Welcome to Planet DC2!!!
Another week, another interview. This time round, Seb's talking to Brian Burchette, writer of New Outsiders, Green Arrow, and Detective Comics:
1) So, this week heralds the release of the 30th issue of New Outsiders. I read the final part of issue 29 and I was amazed. Can you tell us more about this anniversary issue?
First, thanks for reading issue 29 and glad you enjoyed it! Issue 30 is both a bringing together of the New Outsiders roles in both Crises and kind of a love letter to the people that make DC2 what it is.
The Apokolips Imperative really brought Red Tornado to life and The Justice League vs. America took that life, so I'm really excited that this issue will bring both of these events together to save not only his life, but the life of Batwoman as well.
The Outsiders are heading back to Apokolips... sorry... Exodus... to get a hold of another Animate body in hopes that they can save the lives of both their friends. It's also going to bring up some very disturbing and horrific memories for founding member, Black Canary, who may just get her chance to bring that chapter in her life to a close...
As for the love letter comment, I really wanted to do an event that could bring all the Outsiders, new and old, back together, and nothing screamed that to me more than rallying around two of their own. That idea came to me last year when I was a bit under the weather and EVERYONE on this site rallyed behind me. The outpouring was so overwhelming that no matter how many times I say thank you, it will never be enough. So, I thought I'd try to say it in one of my stories. I really hope it comes across.
2) Who will appear in this issue?
Every Outsider that's ever come along, well, except for Adrian Chase, may he rest in peace. Also many of the characters that were seen in New Outsiders #10 will be returning, along with a certain group of females that my awesome editor, Mark, has been anxious to see in this book for a while.
3) How are you doing with your other titles?
I hope I'm doing fine. Why? What have you heard? No, Green Arrow is a dream come true and getting to introduce Connor, Mia and Eddie has been a blast. My run on Detective Comics will be coming to an end here shortly and I'm proud to say that I'm going out with a bang! Grant and Ellen and Samantha have been wonderful to work with, as have the artists. The Batverse has been fun to explore and I've been allowed to introduce The Penguin, Two-Face, Black Mask, and Tim Drake. It's more than I'm really worthy of, to be honest.
4) Any final comments, spoilers (please tell us spoilers, I can't wait), thoughts, future projects?
Final Comments: I always want to thank anyone and everyone who reads my work. I know I say it all the time, but it means a great deal that someone takes the time out of their busy lives to read my stuff, and to comment. I'll always be grateful.
Spoilers: Hmmm... Well, coming soon will be a three book cross-over with Action Comics, Green Arrow and New Outsiders that will reveal The Fero Corporation and some huge surpises that have been hanging out there since Mark and I stepped aboard the New Outsiders. Somebody in The New Outsiders will die in the fourth year.
Green Arrow will be reeling from the events of The Fero adventure, and we may even see a love triangle begin to form between Dinah, Ollie and... well I've already said too much.
Future Projects: YEP! As soon as my run on Tec is over, I've got a Teen Titans West mini series that I'm working on and hope to have out by the end of the year.
Also (and this has not been green-lighted yet), I'm working on my first Elseworlds story that I'm hoping is Epic and if Jay gives it the go, will be something I've been wanting to write for years! It will really put the DC characters into an entirely new (and somewhat familiar) world.
That's about it for now. Except, if everyone gets a chance, step on over to DC3 cause there are some great, great things happening over there! As well as Marvel2, where Charlie and Company are doing some awesome stuff with Stan the Man's great characters as well.
Now I have to go wash Mark's car. *sigh*
