Here's the return of Planet DC2, plus details of this week's new releases at DC2, DC3 and Independent Comics. Details of previous and future DC2 releases can be found on the calendar.
Welcome back to Planet DC2!
Maybe it should be renamed Planet DC2 Quarterly, right? Ha.
Well, I've seen some new writers around the DC2 lately. Here is one of them, Daniel Summers, the current writer of the "Green Lantern" title, talking about his work.
What do you think about the DC2?
I love it. It gives people a chance to bring a fresh voice to charecters we've loved for years.
What are your favorite titles?
Right now, I'm kind of Geoff Johns' disciple. I loved his Flash run, and love what he's doing with GL in the DC1. I got into comics via X-Men, so they'll always have a place on the pull list.
Now, moving into your work on the site: Why Green Lantern? Was he your first option? Or was there something else you wanted to write?
Well, when I first got to the site, all the titles were taken. So I read, and became a big fan of the whole universe. Then, I saw GL had an opening, and I jumped at the chance.
Did the differences between the DC2 and the normal DCU affect your writing? Was it easier to enter this different universe, or harder to leave the status quo of the other?
I think the main difference is that instead of being a slave to continuity, we're MAKING that continuity. We can redefine age-old roles and ideas in ways that are more interesting to today's fan. Entering that kind of world helped alot, plus it makes you WANT to be faithful to the stories already told since they are what got you to DC2 in the first place.
So, are all the players of your Green Lantern run already introduced? We've already seen the introduction of quite a few villains...
Most of the players have been introduced. The next move from here is to put them in the places they need to be come next year
Those villains sure are top level ones!
I agree. There are some more baddies in store in the next few months, not to mention a little war over in GLC Liberation.
Talking about GLC: Liberation: How much do you know about it? Are you and the writers in that mini synchronizing your work?
A lot. And yes, we are.
So, will the return of the Corps play a big role on your run?
Not as much, as GL is more focused on the Green Lanterns of Earth, but the story of the Corps reborn will be told. I should say, not as much initially. The idea of the Corps and their origins is a big theme in the next year
What about the supporting cast? Chloe apparently has a large role, but what about the others (Ion, Carol,etc..)?
Those keeping track at home will notice that Ion is playing a central role over at GLC: Liberation. Carol and Chloe will be constant fixtures in Hal's life, as will his brothers in coming months.
So, would you say your run is earth-based, or cosmic-based? Since, you know, GL can go both ways
Both. There's going to be major storylines in both arenas. If you are a fan of GL patrolling his sector, you'll see it. Same if you are looking for Earth stories involving Hal and his particular band of supporting charecters.
How long will your run be?
As long as they'll have me...I have every issue outlined until 25, and I've got them all plotted through 40, so until I blow up Coast City and blame it on a fear bug I'll be here.
So, do you have any other plans besides the Green Lantern in the DC2?
As of right now, I'm focused on GL, but I'm also open to other projects. But I think 'just GL' is going to have a new meaning soon enough.
Big event coming soon, or part of the rebirth of the Corps? Maybe both?
...Both. Yeah, we'll go with both. Because even though we're in the middle of the GLC mini, we've also got things like the 25th issue of GL coming up. And I love anniversaries
So, any final comments, thoughts, something, "thank you"s?
Yeah, thanks to everyone who thought up the DC2 in the first place, thanks to Scott for building the GL universe and giving me something to look up to, thanks to Charlie for being a great sounding board, thanks to Don for keeping me on track. I know you guys are going to love 16 and it ends with a launchpad into 17, which is a perfect jumping on point for new readers (hinthint-nudgenudge).
We here at the DC2 can't wait to see more of Daniel Summers' Green Lantern Run! Now go and READ IT!
