DC message boards earlier this evening. I'm fed up with all the moaning over there though. This seems like a friendly kind of a place. No lengthy debates about the artistic necessity of taking mind-altering substances [shudders].

new question: do people think its necessary to take mind altering substances to be a artist? (if you answer i will be pleasantly ammused ) I think if your subject revolves around this sort of thing then it can be used during the process. For instance, if you are R. Crumb and that itself is your subject matter or if it is something like Morrison's psychedelically surreal Doom Patrol issues (man, that bicycle sequence for Albert Hoffman was priceless) or the Invisibles that riff so hard off Robert Anton Wilson's Illuminati Trilogy which also uses drugs as catalysts for this and that type of "opening the doors of perception", then yeah, I guess it can be used in that way. BUT, I don't think that taking any substance is going to bring anything out of you artistically that isn't already there. I know some artists and writers use substances while working but I think that is more of an attempt to shortcut to the internal creative process, but I also believe it can just as easily be a hinderance.

I don't know. But I seem to need sleep deprivation to write...

Yes, please, sounds good to me--I think I had that conversation about 10,000 times in college.
As I recall (and I'm terrible at remembering these things), I saw the link over at Bludhaven a few weeks ago.

I came on board yesterday browsing the DC message board. There was a call out for writers so I thought I would check it out. I hope I can contribute something to this site soon. Can't wait for the launch on Wednesday!

I don't know. But I seem to need sleep deprivation to write... I'm with you on the sleep deprevation. The less I sleep the more I write. Is that weird or what?

Ooh, not really Starlord. I kind of get the same thing. I think it's because I get deprived of the REM sleep thing, and so my imagination gets a little bit more active. No-Doz is my best friend.

Ahem
[disclaimer] Not that we advocate, advertise nor encourage the use of illicit drugs to artists. That's just bad behaviour. [/disclaimer]

yes! doc has finally joined me in deity status, well done good sir. although the drug remark was only because i missed out on a huge chunk of posts back there and thought i would bring it back. ;D i dont take drugs, but if i did, I would probably be a lot cooler. everyone who is cool does drugs, thats why they are cool.

Well, let me tell you one thing about drugs. If there's one thing I learned back while going to all those Grateful Dead concerts is that... uh, that is.... er, what was I saying?
