I'm torn in my reaction to this announcement, Dave. Some where between dancing with joy and shouting. "It's about time!!!" Can't wait!

Also new this week......over at the DC3, we have the latest issue of Gotham Girls, with a spotlight on Poison Ivy. Ivy dodged and manipulated her plants with ease even while she thought back in time; the fighting had all become second nature by now. She kept a close eye on Batgirl’s style as they danced around each other, batarangs and branches sending splinters over the floor. Where Batwoman had fought with wild, even joyful abandonment of caution, Batgirl kept her guard close, using more carefully-timed jabs and fewer acrobatic stunts. She was more rooted than her predecessor, harder for Ivy to knock off her feet.
The branches of Ivy’s tamed tree flashed through the room, knocking over Dagget’s chair and various small breakables on his desk. Ivy glanced toward the source of the shattering sounds. “Some damage done, at least. Knowing him, that little crash was worth at least a couple thousand dollars.”
“This can’t seriously be about money.” Batgirl threw another quick kick and closed the distance between them.
“Of course not. But it’s a nice bonus.”
“It’s all just some stupid revenge thing, isn’t it?” Batgirl glared from under her cowl and dodged another flying branch. “Just can’t let him win, not even after three years in prison?”
Ivy’s attacks came to a sudden halt as she stared at the hero, furious. “What kind of half-assed, obsessive idiot do you take me for?”
Batgirl shot back easily, “The same kind I fight every night on these damn streets. But I guess you’re different than them, huh?” she added with disdain.
Ivy gritted her teeth and spread her arms wide for another violent strike. “How dare you?” Two of the tree’s branches slammed together where Batgirl had been standing a moment before, as she just barely ducked away. “Is it just that hard to believe that I want a horrible man off this earth? Is it so hard to believe I’m trying to do some goddamn good here?”
“Yeah, maybe it is.” Ivy thought she heard something more than pure banter in her opponent’s voice. “When all I’ve ever seen you do is kill or steal or destroy to get what you want…that or sit on your ass safe at home.” Batgirl’s mouth was twisted into an angry grimace. “You want to do good? Have you ever thought there was a better way than this? What do you want, Ivy, what do you stand for? What are you?”
Ivy could only glare, her snappy retort lost somewhere in her throat. She leaped back out the window, landing in a soft canopy cushion as she shrunk her tree back down. “All we’ve been through together and you can’t trust me?” Ivy’s tone was mocking, but her lack of a straight answer gave away how much she was shaken. She quickly lowered the tree back to its natural height and threw herself to the ground. “Whatever I am, I’m no quitter. You care so much about that bastard, you better keep watching him!” With no more than that, Poison Ivy started away, leaving Batgirl to watch her silently through the shattered window. So check out Ultimate Gotham Girls #19, out this week, and don't forget to stop by and check out Checkmate: Operation Outsiders #9 and Ultimate Green Lantern Corps #4 from the last couple of weeks, and even more excitement! Take care Don

Lots of cool stuff out this week on the DC2 (and Thor: Sexy Awesome God of Thunder #1 at Marvel2.0 ), with Seven Soldiers of Victory #11 continuing (and the Crimson Avenger back-up concluding-- at last!), something I'm looking forward to immensely, Green Arrow #22 reaching, I think, the conclusion of it's latest arc (Terra-Man?! COME ON! ), but, one of the pieces I'm most proud of on site is coming out-- again-- this week, and it would be cool to see what you think of it: (click the cover to go straight to the issue) I hope you enjoy!

"It's not about throwing punches. It's about taking them." Deathstroke punched Catman in the chest again. Thomas Blake spat blood, groaned, and then hung on the rack like a piece of meat, waiting for the next round of tenderising. "You agreed to this, remember Blake? You agreed to my methods to make you a better fighter." Blake looked up through swollen eyes, his skin covered in bruises and cuts, blood dribbling from his nose and mouth. " Hhh... shut up... and... and..." "And what?" said Slade Wilson, as he moved in close to Blake's face. His own fists were bandaged, Thomas Blake's blood caking them, and his knuckles had split and healed over countless times. He couldn't say he was enjoying this, but it was the only way he knew to make Catman better. "And teach... me..." Catman said with a sneer, spitting blood to the side and straightening up, trying his best to support his weight with his weak knees. "Hit me..." "What did you say?" " Hit me!" RETURNS10/14/2009 “Is he…dead?” Paco asked.
“No, he’s breathing.” Jamie answered. “Should we take him to the hospital?”
“The…Bug…” Ted managed to get the words out before he started coughing. His mouth was full of sand.
The boys looked at one another briefly then Paco spoke up. “You heard the man. Let’s get him to his ship.”
Paco and Jamie dragged Ted to the bug leaving behind a trail of blood mixed with sand. Ted held on to consciousness just enough to retrieve a remote control from a utility pouch and opened the door to the bug. The boys helped him inside and climbed in themselves. Ted pushed some buttons on the controller and passed out.
“What do we do?” Jamie asked. At that moment a screen lit up on the bug’s console. A red dot flashed on the screen and seemed to be moving across it at an incredible speed.
“Whoa!” Paco said with glee. “He must have put some kind of tracking device on that thing that dropped him.”
“We should really get out of here before---“ Jamie barely got the words out when the door to the Bug closed. “Oh boy.”
Paco grinned from ear to ear. “We can’t just leave him anyways. The guy is bleeding. Probably to death.”
“We’re stuck in here? Push some buttons. Do something!”
“No. No way man.” Paco looked over at Ted who was out like a light. “Give me that first aid kit over there on the wall.” Paco took it and bandaged up Ted’s arm which had been the source of all the blood.
The bug started to move and the two youths fell to the ground. Art and words by Chris Paugh. Check out the new issue next week!

Greetings, everyone! Over at DC3 we have two new issues in two of our best titles, and both have our writers and artists on the top of their game, so head on over and check them out, enjoy and let the creative team know what you think. First up, at Earth-Five is After a long night of work, Renee was relaxing at home, chatting idly with Barbara over Batgirl's communicator. They talked about nothing in particular, just odds and ends in between Oracle's orchestrations. Renee was more than ready to wind down and sink back into normal life.
"Glad it's at least been quiet on the Arkham front," Barbara muttered, as she called out a routine mugging to her other agents.
"You're gonna jinx it," Renee chided her. "Been so long, I'm getting worried. You know better than me, you never want to give them time to think."
“I guess. Still, I admire my cheerful optimism, and I stand by it."
Renee laughed, and kicked her feet up on the footstool. Her rest was interrupted, unfortunately, by a powerful, frenzied knocking on her door.
"The hell is that, I can hear it all the way over here?" Barbara asked.
Renee was wary, moving her feet back to the ground. "I don't know...stay with me, Babs."
The pounding continued, and she heard a strained voice call her name. "Renee...Renee, are you there?"
"Who--" Barbara started to ask, but Renee shushed her.
"Renee....please, Renee, I need your help...please, help me!"
"Harvey?" she asked in little more than a whisper, and opened the door.
He stood at her doorway, more haggard than ever, his hands over his face. His jacket was thin and tattered, but still unmistakable property of Arkham Asylum. His hands shook, his knees trembled, and when he finally lowered his hands, Renee found out why.
Harvey Dent's face was as smooth and unblemished as the day he'd been born; both sides symmetrical and unscarred, with no sign anywhere of Two-Face.
"Please, help!" Meanwhile, over on Earth-Two, we have As Checkmate jet 206 headed toward Gotham City at top speed, the Outsiders waited to arrive. Sarin dreaded returning to the surface world’s filthiest rat-hole. Elasti-Girl embraced the chance to fight the League of Assassins again. Lian worried over Gene. But to everyone’s surprise, none of them could pick up what was going through Cassandra’s mind. This was her first mission since her undercover work in Japan. This was her first mission under the title ‘Soultaker.’ Most significantly, it was her return to her old home.
Cassandra hadn’t been in Gotham for a long time. Not since she left her family. None of the Outsiders knew what she would do or how she would feel upon her return to her old stomping grounds. All Cassandra did during the flight was sit in silence, fully costumed and masked, staring out the window.
Maxine was the only one to approach her. After their rescue of Rachel Dibny from the Yakuza, Maxine felt she had a certain bond with Cassandra. As she sat down in front of the silent hero, she asked, “So, how you feeling?”
She didn’t answer. She didn’t give any response. She continued staring in silence.
“You’re going back home,” Maxine pressed. “Kind of…kind of big, don’t you think?”
“No,” Cassandra gave response.
“Really? Like, no old wounds or memories or anything?”
“Ten years and one month. Three broken fingers, two cracked ribs, five concussions, and countless stitches. And two Batmen,” she explained without any emotion. “There’s not much else.”
Maxine was instantly quiet. Trying to hide her embarrassment, she turned around quietly and returned to her seat.
Looking down, Cassandra saw a familiar landmark. “I beat Killer Croc down there,” she quietly remarked with a hint of nostalgia. Here's hoping you all get a chance to enjoy the adventure of the DC2 Multiverse! Take care Don

Click the cover to go straight to the issue--! This is the first instalment of a story I'm very proud of, and I'm hoping that you all feel the same way. Like I said the in the letter column, I found my inspiration from this point forward, and stormed ahead a few months because of it. And also, because I'm weird, the first issue of an "ongoing" Elseworlds saga made it's debut this week, taking it's cue from The Best Elseworlds we've had ongoing on site with the "R" title I've chosen, JLA: Revolutions has been years in the making, and I'm also really psyched to see how it's received-- even though I know releasing an Elseworlds is an uphill battle for readers to get into. But hey, we'll see how it goes.

From this high up, Tokyo was beautiful-- it was a beautiful city in the day, but at night, with the neon lights shining, the hundreds of signs and lights glistening perpetually, the cars lined up in streaks of glowing colour, it was something else entirely. Harper was dressed in his full uniform, his shield on his back. The plane had come in low, and he only had a couple of hundred feet of free fall to contend with. "Child's play." He spread himself wide for a few seconds, and drifted, a blue and yellow blur, toward a mess of clothes lines. He was going fast, and they snapped as easy as a knife going through butter, but his momentum shifted, and he grabbed a fire-escape, which exploded down under his sudden landing, and sprang down, his feet firmly in place on the ladder. As that jutted to the concrete below, he sprang up, and landed on another fire escape, and there, as simple as simple could be, he had landed. The Guardian was in Tokyo. Harper was an urban thing-- filled with technology and war-appropriate implants-- built to leap over ruined, gutted buildings, footfall after footfall, until he reached the other side. He was no Superman. He couldn't fly, but he was a human thing, and walking, running, foot to dirt, was his way. His heavy boots creaked under his weight as he began to run across the rooftops. He didn't know the layout as well as he should have-- new buildings had gone up in his time away from the place-- but he made do with what he did know. His brain could hardly be considered normal these days, anyway. His mind was almost an organic super-computer, capable of learning new things and remembering data at an incredible rate. He would sit, sometimes, in the dark, and consider what this meant for him. But then he ignored the urge to brood, or be bitter, and threw himself into life. There were better things to do than become a twisted, sad, shell of a human being. It's when that happens that you really do lose part of yours. Know that although in the eternal scheme of things you are small, thought Harper, leaping from one ledge over to another, landing hard, bending his knees and springing right back up again, you are also unique and irreplaceable as are your fellow humans everywhere in the world.<"Colonel Harper?"> A voice buzzed in his head, and he realised that his radio-transceiver had been accessed. The only people with the new frequency were his DEO comrades. <"Do you read?"> "I've got my helm on, soldier, it's Guardian when in costume." He came to a stop on a ledge that overlooked the tourist heavy Shibuya ward of the city, and then put his finger to his ear. "What's the good word? Who am I talking to?" The man on the other side of the line cleared his throat. <"Hideo Fujimoto, Colonel Guardian, sir."> His English was great, but the accent was all wrong. Nice try, though. <"We have your location on GPS, and, um, we were wondering if you wanted to proceed to the monster factory tonight--?"> "I'm coming in," Harper said, "I know where the home-office of the city is, I assume I'll meet you there. have all the documents ready for review. Inform Nodell and Clevenger that we'll be reconvening there." <"Yes sir, Colonel Guardian, sir,"> said the voice, before going off-line. Harper took in the sights for a few more seconds, before diving down to an alley, and simply walking out into the street. He headed north, to where the home-office was located, and he caught nary a look from the locals. He decided, then and there, that he loved this city. It had been too long. Monthly from the DC2! [/B]
