Yes April 1st is here once again. This is what I am presuming is DC Comics april fools joke on everyone. Or at least it dam well better be.
New Continuity Month is an upcoming event in the DC Universe where writers are allowed, and even encouraged to completely ignore continuity in favor of writing about whatever they think will make better for reading. Reportedly, editors have grown tired of trying to adhere to the linear years of history since the Crisis on Infinite Earths, and reached a group decision that it would be much easier to simply be done with the whole thing. This is meant to attract newer fans previously unfamiliar with the characters. Throughout the month of May, all titles emblazoned with the easily recognizable NCM logo will be a part of the crossover event. There will be no crises or in-story explanations, and retcons are not required to fit other parts of continuity, or even the other new changes. DC intends to drop all of the pretenses of a stable history, in favor of whatever 'works with the characters contemporarily'. The changes expected include, but are not limited to the following:
* Superman's early history will be completely written, modifying the concept of Superboy. The more popular character Kon-El, also known as Conner Kent will now be considered the de facto origin of Clark Kent. This is expected to be covered in the upcoming Superman: Secret Origin.
* Following Battle for the Cowl, Batman will be given resurrected, and given Kryptonian superpowers to provide the Batman Titles with 'more action'.
* Viewed universally as the best incarnation, Heath Ledger's interpretation of the Joker will now be considered the mainstream Joker, and all other versions will be considered completely non-canon.
* The current Wonder Woman, often considered too boring to draw real reader interest, will be replaced with the Wonder Woman from Stan Lee's Just Imagine series.
* Appealing to younger readers, Teen Titans will go back to being Young Justice again.
* The Justice Society of America will be rewritten as having been established much later than World War II, and actually having acted as early rivals of the Justice League of America starting in the 1970's.
* To allow Green Arrow to become darker, edgier and more violent, Black Canary, Connor Hawke and Mia Dearden will all be murdered.
* All versions of the Legion of Super-Heroes will be condensed into a single team modeled more directly after the Justice League of America.
* Darkseid will be brought back in the Final Crisis aftermath series', to provide the DC Universe with more, even greater threats than ever before. This will be further explored in the new upcoming New Gods ongoing series, written by Jim Shooter.
* To avoid confusion as to who Green Lantern is, Hal Jordan will be used as the only Green Lantern, and all other knock-off Green Lanterns will be written out.
* To complicate the life of Wally West and the upbringing of his children, it will be revealed that Barry Allen is actually a flamboyant homosexual.
* The Team Titans will be reintroduced in their own new series.
* All Western Characters from the 19th Century, such as Jonah Hex, Bat Lash, Nighthawk, El Diablo, Johnny Thunder and Scalphunter will be reinvented as heroes of the Vietnam War, to update and modernize them.
# New Continuity Month is one of DC's attempts to justify the recent slated increase in comics prices from $3.00 to $4.50 per monthly title. They will also be publishing more issues in 3D.
# Along with this process, writer Grant Morrison has been officially let go from any further work at DC Comics. His contract is void, and his job is being terminated because his comics are too difficult to follow, and to confusing to read for the average reader.
