Sorry about the annoying all caps, but dammit, that's some serious comic book news right there! Disney buys Marvel for $4 billion! "The worldwide leader in family entertainment is about to get a great deal more entertaining, as the Walt Disney Company agrees to acquire iconic comic book company Marvel Entertainment for $4 billion. More than 5,000 iconic comic book characters will soon be in the hands of Disney, raising serious questions about the future of Marvel video game titles from Activision, Sega, THQ, and the upcoming MMO from Gazillion Entertainment. Under the terms of the agreement, Disney will pay Marvel shareholders $30 per share for their Marvel stock, plus .745 of a share of Disney stock for each share they own."

Holy Moley!
This is just weird!
That being said, I can't wait to see the inevitable Wolverine Musical or the Hulk vs. Goofy Direct-to-DVD film...

This is a surprising, but interesting, development. Getting some deep reserves of resources for Marvel could be a good thing. The reach Disney has could help elevate Marvel's portfolio even higher. All of the licensing, not just in movies, but theme parks and video games and the like, could get messy as the licenses lapse. Crossgen properties are owned by Disney (at least one I know of, I'm not sure off-hand if they have others).
Hmm...something to watch as it develops further, for certain. Whacky news day today though.
Take care don

Interesting, but not a very big deal. From what I'm reading, I doubt Disney is going to do anything drastic with the company, except maybe some fine tuning. It's still surprising though.

Haha, wow.... never would have thought they'd do that... Not that surprising, Disney likes making money, and Marvel is a sound investment. I thought a little more about it, and what might happen is Disney might have them make a few new comics under another line. I still doubt anything major will happen though.

Pretty nutty, huh? At least now I can finally get that Donald Duck/Howard The Duck crossover comic I've been dreaming of for so long. Probably won't happen. I heard Disney slammed Marvel hard when Howard first appeared, saying that a talking, clothes-wearing duck was copyright infringement. This led to a Disney-approved "redesign" that included Howard wearing pants. If anything, Disney might try do to Howard what DC did to Captain Marvel after they wiped out Fawcett and bought their characters.

Does Howard even get much face time at Marvel though?

Every now and then they relaunch him, I remember the MAX series, and then there was the more recent Ty Templeton series, but he's not a fixture, so I don't know if they'll particularly care. Who knows...?

Yeah, there are bigger names that Disney could blacklist if they through their weight around.
WB doesn't pull that kind of thing with DC though, so I doubt Disney will do anything like that.
