This show is bloody brilliant. I've watched the first two episodes, and I'm watching the third now, and I have to say that this is a great continuation of the mythos.
I was a big fan of Atlantis, but the later series of SG-1 dragged on somewhat. The cancellation of Atlantis bugged me to no end, and I had no real hopes for Universe, but hearing about the cast (Robert Carlyle!) and the concept, my anticipation slowly increased.
Having seen the first episodes, I need to say this: It's visually amazing. The design aesthetic is astonishing-- the Ancient Ship on the same level as Atlantis as a whole. The opener looked like a film, everything about it so much better than everything that came before.
I'm not sure how long they can sustain the series, and the characters are slowly coming into themselves, but I'm hooked. Definitely a DVD buy when it comes down to it.
