Looks like the DCU will be getting some new characters to play with. Archie's Heroes (Impact) find their way into the DC Universe as it looks like the Milestone heroes will also. The thing with the Archie heroes is interesting. I've always liked the characters if never really having read their adventures, but in the case of Milestone I think it's a no-brainer move that's long overdue.

You have no idea how excited I got over seeing this news. I've been hoping for Static to be brought into the DCU for a while, and I've been searching all over for collected and/or single issues of Static. Both of those were answered today and I'm anxious to get to know some of the other Milestone characters.

This concerns me... Considering what they've done to Fawcett Heroes and Charlton Heroes.

At least they'll be active and growing characters again. Really, I agree that DC hasn't utilized acquired characters to the best potential in the past, but would those characters even still be seeing print if it hadn't been for them bringing them into the DCU? Timdrake: This is a very good day for Static fans.

Brandon,
Here's a psychological probe then;
If the product is inferior than the predecessor, is it worthwhile to bring forth?
Two ways I could answer this;
The inferiority isn't perceived by all.
Or.
The content isn't capable of being altered enough to see derivations that conflict with the earlier vision.
Either way... it worries me since they have been less than faithful to Captain Marvel and somewhat to the Question.....

The characters continue on, diminished or not is opinion I guess. To me Captain Marvel works best in the cartoony tone of his early stories, but there may be many fans of the newer Captain Marvel stories like Trials of Shazam or Dark Mary Marvel. That they are still there and entertaining people says a lot whether it's their best or not.
A hardcore Marvel fan could argue that no one has ever rivaled Stan and Jack's original Fantastic Four run but they carry on. I know I personally read a run of the some of the early Dr. Strange stories from Strange Tales recently and was blown away by how cool it was. Easily the best Dr. Strange stuff I've read and the visual style of Steve Ditko really is THE visual language of the character. And yet we continually see new stories and revised ideas even though sometimes they aren't nearly as good as the other earlier iterations of the character. The Superman we read today certainly isn't the same one that first appeared back in the late 30s or really even the same one seen in the 50s, 70s, or even 90s. Which version is the best? Hard to say.
They evolve, they change, but at least they are still there inspiring people. That has to be better than fading into obscurity.

It's still a fascinating argument to pose though...
What is the best Batman? What we have now or what was? Sort the comparision how Project Superpowers that's been done by Alex Ross to ressurect the Golden age heroes into a modern theme and myth. It's been well done by them, so if there's any solace then... why not let them try. But if it doesn't come close to the original or if it's an improvement.. so be it. But at least stay faithful to the source material you know?

Now DC is going after the Hanna-Barbara characters. The classic versions from what I gather.

i tried to post about this in wednesday when i read about it in DC Nation, but for some reason I couldnt.
I couldn't agree with Brandon anymore, the inclusion of the Milestone characters is long overdue. I think in the same column, they said they will also be getting one of the 52 Earths as well (I believe only half of them are officially defined).
Icon and Shadow Cabinet are going to be appearing in Justice League and Static is going to be joining the Teen Titans (which is what Johns wanted to do when he re-started the book).
I can't wait.
