Hm...I'm undecided. It looks more like the Joker should be right after he got his chemical makeover.

DAMN YOU House Of Mystery! I think it looks awesome... then again I had an avatar not too long ago from a slipknot album that was nearly identical... either way I like it!

Well, I think the last bit of fun has been officially drained from the Batman franchise. I don't mind superhero movies that are more serious and treat their scripts more intelligently, but this seems more like a superhero movie that is embarrassed by its source material.
Sorry guys. I'm not liking it. It's like some leftover from bad 90s shock rock.

I have to agree with Brandon. This looks terrible. Though I liked the Jack Nicholson Joker, that irritated me when they shot him in the face to give him the grin. It looks like they're doing something similar here...
Wonder if they'll give Aaron Eckert (sp?) a secon head as Two Face.

Well, I'm not enamored of the picture, and that leaves me unsure how I feel about the design and the look. On the other hand, it's an extreme close-up taken out of context. So while I don't think I'm thrilled with the design yet, I'm going to do what I always do with these things and wait for the movie to show me what it has. There's been a large number of pictures and designs that have been released from many super-hero movies that have made me hesitate over, or just decide doesn't look right, but once the movie hits the screen, and it's seen at full size, with all the finishing touches and put into the context of the setting, make me much happier with the overall product. So for now, count me among the "meh", but when Dark Knight comes out, then I'll make my final decision.
As for the Joker's mouth coming from disfigurement, that's been a take many times in the past. I'm a fan of the idea that whatever turns him into the Joker is responsible for his colorations and freezing that hideous grin into place. For some reason, that just adds to this man's fear-inducing mystique for me, that he smiles and laughs because, really, he has no other choice.
Take care Don

I don't think it looks bad, but I think it's just a joke. If you go to the website where it was originally found ( ibelieveinharveydent.com) it says 'page not found'. If you highlight everything it has lines of 'HAHAHAHAHAHA' and in between it has others that put together spell 'See you in December'. I think the people making the movie are playing a joke on us, though a good one, and we'll see the real Joker in a trailer in December. The Joker in KSM's post looks good, I hope that's a real teaser.

well, on heath ledger's website, it says that the pic above is the official image of the joker.
I like it and i have to disagree with killerseamonkey. I don't see how this gives off the impression that the makers of the Dark Knight are embarrassed by the source material. If they just did a straight translation of the source material i think that would be a waste of time and money, since I would already know what happens and how it happens. If i see a movie adaptation of something, I prefer it to be different (not totally different, it should stay true to some extent to the source material), just like I prefer the stories on this site to be different and not just regurgitated stories from the comics.
I just think that they want to translate the Batman mythos to the 'real' world and from what i've read how the Joker comes to be, it seems like it fits what they are trying to do and given that I loved Batman Begins, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

tinyurl.com/268ok6This Joker I like. I'm not exactly sure where this came from but it looks genuine. Who knows. I like the Joker in that as well but I'm fairly certain that it's a fake teaser. You can see Aaron Eckhart and Katie Holmes in scenes from "Thank You For Smoking" and of course, there's footage from "Batman Begins". I don't think there's any original footage in there other than the shot of the Joker (where that's from, I have no idea). Though, it does make for a pretty neat teaser, it's just not the real one.

And I like the hint of an idea that Lucius Fox is in on the Bat-deal, what with that underground lab that resembles the RnD department.

I really want to know the origin behind Joker since I think the usual one is wiped out (being that Joker began leaving his calling card in reaction to the presence of Batman, not because he was made from Batman fighting him and falling into a vat). I HATE when origins are changed most of the time, so the spirit of the movie and the performance of the joker better wow me.

Not too sure about the bat-shoulder pads.
Not to sure about the 'painted face', but I loved the first one, so I'll give it a shot.

I noticed on imdb.com Barbara Gordan is listed as a character played by Melinda McGraw and obviously she won't be playing Batgirl in this movie. So, has there been any word on what her involvement is exactly?

Maybe it's Gordon's wife. She appeared in the first one, didn't she?

So, has there been any word on what her involvement is exactly? If Barbara's coming in somehow, think Dick will too? I know the directors said they want to keep Dick as far away as possible since they think the intro of Dick will change the tone of the movies... I like the way Dick appeared in The Long Halloween...(i think that was it...) Loeb and Sale still kept the dark atmosphere going...
