I'm curious, myself.
I do kinda feel bad for the new actors. They're taking on roles that were all associated with one group of actors. It's going to be hard for them to win over the hardcore Trek fans. Even if the movie is set before the series.

From what I've read it is actually a time travelling thing that's why nimoy is in it but I think the movie will turn out pretty good.

Anyone seen the viral site they've created for it? Hopefully Abrams has some Cloverfield-style ARG to go with it. www.ncc-1701.com

Me personally I am going to watch it with an open mind becuase I was rather young when the original Star Trek first came out, and at the time I didn't really understand it but I watch it now I can understand the references and I have grown to like it. I have also seen all the movies and to think that a totally new crew is coming in to take the place of the people that originally played the parts is going to be rather difficult, but as I said before I am going to try to keep an open mind.
But I certainly hope that who ever is supposed to play Kirk if that is him he looks like Ramon's images of Kirk. (hahaha what you think RayRay?)

I'm psyched by the casting, that's got my blood pumping for this movie. Bruce Greenwood as Pike, Simon Pegg as Scotty, I remember who Uhura is from even if I don't remember her name, and she's great to watch, and Eric Bana is always enjoyable. Then they've put in great choices for Sarek and Spock's mom...yeah, the casting's going to win me over on this one, I'm sure.
Take care Don

From what I read, Shatner was mad because they couldn't find a place for him in the movie... but from what I remember, his character died in one of the Star Trek: the Next Generation Movies and so I can't blame Abrams for wanting to avoid complications...

He died in Generations, but Shatner actually wrote more than a few books that take place after where he brought the character back to life (some convoluted Romulan/Borg plot, as I recall, it's been years), I know it's not considered canon, but I'd imagine he figures if he could bring Kirk back in the books, they could find a way./
Of course, they did also want him to make an appearance on Enterprise to try and boost the ratings (and keep the show from getting cancelled) and he held them up for money, so I can see why they'd be inclined to pass.

Personally, I think Shatner is radioactive; it would be hard to take seriously any project in which he was involved. He was awesome in his day, but he's kind of a caricature of himself now.
Of course, J.J. Abrams couldn't tell him that...

Exalt, Idlewilder. As for myself, call me when they do something with the mirror universe or something post-Voyager with the Romulans. Otherwise, I'll pass. We already had Trek Episode I, it was called Enterprise. I think that says it all. I never thought I'd live to see the day when Doctor Who was on the air and Star Trek wasn't. But I'm not complaining. At all. *turns and runs for his life*

I think, Enterprise, the series, was really hitting its stride in its final season... sadly they {producers} had taken the fans for granted for too long... and by the time they realized the 'new' show was in peril of cancellation it was too late! The concept of telling stories from the past is NOT flawed... BUT and this is important... I don't think they are doing that with the new movie. Unlike Enterprise, the new film is {from what I have read} NOT just a flashback but almost a complete re-boot to the franchise... from here on out {if the new movie is a success and spawns sequels} CANON will be re-defined as anythng after this new film. Old plots and stories can serve as inspiration... BUT nothing need be written in stone. It worked for Battlestar, Batman and Bond.... why not Trek? As comics fans we know that TOO much continuity can muddle things up... as far as freedom to tell stories goes.... thus DC's cycle of Crises...... For a new generation, re-invent and provide a new vision... That's just, ya know, IMO...

Personally I enjoyed the Enterprise series. I loved the idea of it all. In the final season, the series answered some questions and connected this series into the grand mythos that is Star Trek. This series explained why the Klingons lost their cranial rigs. I loved the episodes that had Brent Spiner in it. Borderland, Cold Station 12 and Augments were about Dr. Soong. In the end, Soong was returned to prison and ponders creating artificial lifeforms, "...it could take a generation."

I used to be a big Trekkie a while ago, but that was during Voyagers reign and I dearly miss that show. I know it would be incredibly impracticle, but I'd rather a Voyager movie. The show dealt with so many themes and even though they were exaggerated for sci-fi purposes, they were still incredibly present in our modern era. And damn it!!!! I miss Seven of Nine's honesty!

7 of 9's Honesty? I miss her assets. What assets? Okay, so I watched the trailer again. It does look nifty, I won't lie. And if any of you watch Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles you'll defiantly be familiar with Cameron, who has enough honesty to make the White House a bonified confessional booth, so I suppose I'll give this a try, but I won't hold my breath...I don't like being dizzy much.
