hey there, i just wanted to ... give a few ideas.. to better this site.. for example.. why dont you guys allow variant covers?? even real comics use those.. and also.. since the comics here only have cover art.. because probably drawing the whole issue would take some time.. why not do promotional artwork and or.. artwork that goes along with the story.. per example.. : 1.-COVER (credits blah blah) 2.-first page splash 3.-written story begins 4.-a pin up or drawing (illustration) explaining whats going on in the story (to sharpen AND ease peoples imagination to whats going on.. or simple to improve and get more pageviews ) 5.-written story continues 6.-another illustration.. and so on... what do you think??

OH! i forgot.. why not add a gallery open to artists here to post other work (related to DC of course).. per example.. you could separate it by character or however you want..

Well, probably the most likely reason we don't do that is that we aren't really trying to write comics. We're writing prose stories that make up a comic-book universe. Variant covers would take up a LOT of room on the board and would just kind of get annoying, and it's hard enough to keep an editor, writer, and ONE artist on one deadline. Would you really want to draw four or five pictures for each piece of writing each month? It'd be a major overload, and really, these sites focus more on the stories themselves. The covers are a great fun part of it, but (as far as I can tell anyway, being a writer and editor) the art comes second to the writing

I couldn't disagree more, Mockingbird. While the writing is important... the way the site displays the artwork and encourages the artwork... is by all standards hand in hand with the writing.
I can vouch as an aspiring artist and writer... that they both take equally the same kind of time and dedication to the craft.
Just my take on the matter.
I say if the artist would like to take on additional artwork within the stories... then by all means work with the writer to make the interior art if they want to, but it shouldn't be required. Cover art being delivered by our art department as it is... is extremely hard though.
Again that's just my opinion though.

I'm sorry, i realized about thirty seconds after posting that that came out wrong. I absolutely didn't mean to say that the artists weren't important, just that the amount of work involved in putting an equal amount of art and prose on the site would be ridiculous. There's just more writing than pictures, and i didn't think that was a bad thing.
All I really meant was while you can post a story without a cover, you can't really post a cover without a story. Does that make sense? The art is important and fun and awesome and makes the site look a lot cooler, but it isn't the focus of the site
ABSOLUTELY do not mean to insult our artists though! And i'm sorry if it came off that way. You guys are awesome

Makes sense... I just know how hard folks work on their art and craft here.. Any writer or artist knows that the way DC2 presents its staff... is.. just like you would be treated in a real publishing situation. What better way to be treated than as a professional?

really, all I think i meant was to agree with what you said. It's hard enough getting all the covers taken care of, asking people to do interior art is so much extra work. If the artist wants to do it that's awesome, but just coordinating one piece of artwork with one story is already difficult.
I blame the misunderstanding on the 50 art history flashcards i spent the whole night making XD

Yeah, the more art the better!
What Jim and I were trying to do with Justice Society of America (before his recent troubles) was a cover, a piece of interior art depicting a pivotal scene, and a pin-up at the end. Frankly, I think that's a good model for every title, but the fact of the matter is we just don't have enough artists (and we add more titles every month it seems)! The ones we do have are spread so thin we struggling in our committment to post an original cover with every new DC2 issue...
But I definately support your idea catsmeow--- and if I can figure out how to post the jpegs you emailed me, I'm going to post the JSA pic you did (its awesome)!

Yeah, that was the goal over at DC3, was to do a cover and splash page. And Roy was able to keep that up for the first four issues of Mightiest Mortals, or maybe five, but he's been unable to keep up trying to keep titles in covers alone. More art would be fine, but sadly, just not feasible right now. Heck, without Jim around, the JSA over there (All-Stars) is lacking an artist, Speeding Bullet is lacking an artist, Wonder Woman's lacking an artist...and that's just the Earths I'm directly involved in there. I finaly managed to land a Danger Trail artist, after missing one or two covers there...it's tough, really tough. We need more artists. We're lucky to have the ones we do. And we have a place for artists to post their non-DC2 work, down in the 'art vault' board. Have a day with it Take care Don

ok i did not mean to start a fight here .. or any kind of "stress" or bad blood... and i didnt mean to like draw the entire issue (which id kinda like that but i agree with the timing issues) BUT what i tried to say was that if it were ok if i drew some splash pages or pin ups explaining the story and those could be between each paragrapah or something like that.. or like you know how regular reading books tend to have a few images inside just to help explain the story (visually speaking) and the imagination while reading?? thats what i want.. simply cuz i think that would make the comics here much cooler than they already are.. like i said if the other artists dont wanna then fine.. but i do.. so may i?? .. pleassssssssssse??? ...

oh also!! i almost forgot.. i was gifted with speed.. great speed when it comes to art.. BUT i was cursed with lazzyness as well.. so if theres a tittle that has no artist count on me to do the cover BUT BUT BUT pleasse let me know with anticipation.. otherwise the artworks quality may and probably will be lower than usual.. so.. yup... thanks.. and thank you all for reading and agreeing and not agreeing .. thanky'all!! XOXO CATSMEOW!

Oh hey kitty, that was nothing. You should see me and Charlie go at it. Or anybody and David when the Batman group dynamics come up. I'm gone for two days and you drag our dirty laundry into public again Jay?! Godammit, I hate you!! Erhem. The thing is, catsmeow, and I think people have said this, is that we're stretched quite thin with our artists, and whilst certain books go out of their way to go that extra mile (read: JSA) other books can't really afford to do that. We have artists that have busy real lifes with school and what not (and hey, Zirron? You're right... Repent whilst you can!!) and so putting on extra pressure will eventually break them! Sometimes it's cool for special event issues to have interior art. For instance, I know that for quite a few projects I've done (DC2 Special: World's Finest, The Question #7, Action Comics Annual #2) I've wrangled some extra art out of people but I had to do a lot of begging majorly before hand. You can hopefully expect to see some interior art in some other forthcoming projects I'm getting out (Green Lantern Annual #1 and Wonder Woman #25) but it has taken a lot of talking to artists way before the books have come out, and that's time spent they could really be working on covers for other books... And I've rambled on now, and need to go check out what else is new on site...

Wow. Charlie your ability to squeeze the names of your projects into anything still astounds me. Well it'll never shocks me how much that guy who wrote Action Comics, especially 16, 17, 18 and that Action Comics Annual with those great covers and great interior art by some of DC2's finest like Roy, Sly, and that other guy...Mischief. I know that I've done one variant cover for Action Comics 17. And I've drawn more covers for Rogues Gallery 9, I just could find the time to color them. Plus the one colored by Riz was simple amazing. But hey if you wanna do a variant cover for Shazam!, then just PM us. We are more then willing to have your artwork as a special variant cover. Wow. Charlie your ability to squeeze the names of your projects into anything still astounds me. I'm jealous. Wish I could do it so well myself, but then it's not that hard to squeeze the name of one comic into a sentence. ;D
