Well I think my answer is pretty obvious, but these are two of DC's oldest franchises and I'm curious as to who you guys are more fond of. This isn't specific like Wally or Kyle, Barry or Hal, and Jay or Alan, but as a whole, what would you choose as your favorite.

The Flash, because of that sleek costume, which is simply beautiful no matter WHO'S wearing it, but favourite? Green Lantern, thought I think NO writer has actually ever truly GOT his powers. He can create anything he can imagine. I think Morrison touched upon it really well, with Kyle creating all sorts of crazy constructs, but all in all, not even Johns has really written the character to their fullest potential. He was too busy in Rebirth describing HOW each GL made their constructs rather than how EFFECTIVE they could be with them.

Green Lanterns are cooler than Flashes. Better powers, better characters, better story potential.
Flash didn't even come into his own until Waid and the introduction of the Speed Force (although I have a soft spot for the Carmine Infantino years)!

This one is really close for me, as these are two icons in comics as well as two of my favorite franchises.
Flash is a simple concept that has been expanded into something unique over the years. No matter who is under the mask, they are always ready to make a sacrifice (even if it is getting a little cliche for Flashes to be doing that...). Another thing I always liked about the Flash is their positive outlook on the world. You rarely ever see a 'grim and gritty' Flash running around. On top of that, the Flash rogues gallery is one of the best, with the Rogues as the team of criminals that everyone loves to hate and a bunch of crazy futuristic speed force threats. Flash is a legacy, from Max Mercury in the old west to the distant future of Bart Allen and the Legion (which unfortunately might also be getting ruined with the new earth crap). It's a family, something to look t inspiration for, someone who always looks on the bright side, just an all around great hero.
Charlie's right about Green Lantern, there's so much potential with the concept. I'm glad to have been introduced to it with Kyle since I think that his creative mind really pushed the limits more than others in the past. I like seeing all the Earth Green Lantern's being different from one another, but again it's not reaching it's full potential. What comes from the ring should be personal since it's run by imagination and willpower, but it seems like these different personalities are blending together as the same character. Still, I love the space threats they go up against, and the Sinestro Corps looks to add a new dynamic to the GL mythos.
In terms of the characters and stories, the ones I've read and enjoyed are pretty much neck and neck. In the end, I like the Flash more for his optimism.

Green Lantern is better. Look how many Flashes have died. Barry Allen dies in the original Crisis, because the guy sucked. Wally West became the best Flash in my opinion was when Geoff Johns wrote the character.
The Green Lantern legacy is better. John Stewart, Kyle Rayner, Kilowog, Hal Jordan, Guy Gardner, Alan Scott and Jade.
Flash legacy is Jay Garrick, Barry Allen, Wally West and Bart Allen, which two of them were killed.
But this is my opinion and only that.

Conceptually, Green Lantern is cooler. No slight against the Flashes, especially Wally, who I've already begun to write in Teen Titans.
But is it wrong that I like the evil speedsters, Zoom and Inertia, more?

Zoom is the greatest villain ever. The Flash, officially, has better villains than any character. But you all knew that already

... Barry Allen dies in the original Crisis, because the guy sucked. I think Barry Allen died for two reasons: 1) The Crisis needed an "ultimate sacrifice" to lend it that dramatic impact, and 2) The writer on the solo title had pretty much written Barry out of action (killed Iris, made Barry and the world believe he was a murderer, beat him into disfigurement, and sent him into the future). It was problematical to pick up the shreds of Barry's life after what Cary Bates (the writer) had done to him, so they made the decision to start over! For what it's worth, Wally West did kinda morph into Barry (as he is virtual unrecognizable as the Wally West who was Kid Flash in the New Teen Titans--- it's like he was two different characters with two distinct personalities)!

I also want to throw my two cents in when it comes to Barry. I've read on a lot of message boards how Barry was boring and Barry sucked and that sort of thing.
Personally (and this is just my humble opinion), Barry was always the epitome of a true hero. He always held on to his beliefs, and strong moral values. Some people might consider that boring, but to me he was an incredible hero who held to some high standards, and had a huge amount of humanity in him. I thought Barry was awesome, and still miss him.

Barry Allen may have been the perfect hero with the strongest beliefs like Superman, the writers had nothing for him. Nothing that made him interesting. So they offed him. Now the cycle repeated itself to Bart Allen. Bart is dead now, so why would I even the title??? So I can read about the return of Barry Allen??? That is if they do revive him. Death means nothing in comics. Death is just a gimmick now a days just to increase sales figures.
Remember that Captain James T. Kirk is the better captain of the Enterprise.

Mischief, you're also dead to me. So, you're some kind of zombie in my head now.
I chose Flash. It wasn't really hard to me. I love his villains, love his powers, and love his stories. They are willing to always sacrifice themselves and to help others. They are a legacy, and I also like that.
Although I have to admit, I hate the Bart Allen part of Kid Flash and the Flash. Awful.

Well, when you bring the fact that Flashes die into it, you could bring up the fact that Hal Jordan went crazy and turned into Parallax, Jade died, and Guy has gone through a couple lame transformations. The GL mythos has it's ups and downs just as the Flash mythos does.
And Barry killed because he was boring...that sounds like what happened with Hal Jordan in the 90s.

I was going to say just what tim said. But I decided just to put the remarks in my choosing. That's one valid point, though. Guy has died and returned also, right?

I don't know if he ever died, but I know at one point he had a yellow ring, then he found out he had some alien dna or something and became Guy Gardener Warrior (and I can't for the life of me remember what his powers were, I just remember being really confused just starting to read mainstream comics and trying to understand GL mythos outside of Kyle).

OK...
I think we all know my response to the question... I love Green Lantern. I do not care who wears the ring, as long as there is a Green Lantern. Yes, Hal is my favorite... but I loved Kyle as GL. Kilowog is an amazing character. I love to hate Guy Gardner... and hate to admit that I love him too. John Stewart, IMO is the only GL that, aside from the cartoon, really has not been fully fleshed out. He's the only GL that actually feels like a side-kick to me.
I agree with Charlie that the creative staff of GL never really fully explore their power. It's one of the reasons I wrote Hal vs. the Tsunami in GL #10. I wanted to strecth his will and ring power to it's limit (or at least what I thought his limit could be).
Now onto other comments:
"Barry Allen dies in the original Crisis, because the guy sucked." - Wow... I really don't have a comment other than that. Well, maybe 'no he didn't'... but that's about it. I don't really know you well, so to say you're dead to me wouldn't really make a difference.
"Remember that Captain James T. Kirk is the better captain of the Enterprise." - This actually made me like you even more, regardless of the Barry-bashing. Yes he was, though Benjamin Sisko could give him a run for his money.
And to throw my two cents in: Han shot first.

First: Guy Gardner Warrior was half vuldarian or some such and he had the powers of Random from X-men's comics: he could morph his body into weapons and such, often projectiles and body armor, for fighting and blasting.
Second: I chose the Flashes.
I've always had a warm spot for speed: the very concepts and mechanics of speed interest me, though I don't know how to drive or how to fix a car. But I love thrill seeking, often looking for the fastest and craziest roller coasters and rides at amusement parks...
With the Flash, I kinda of grew up with him as a hero. Barry I started with, reading my uncle's comics, and then Wally is who brought me into the comic world deeper when I began to buy my own comics as a teenager. And he carried me through (in Mark Waid's run all the way to the end of it) into becoming a deeper fanboy.
I love the GLs, and Kyle was my fave GL though I had first been a diehard fan of Hal; but I have a connection to them...maybe it's the speed force.
I also loved Morrison's Kyle and Waid's Kyle and the various GL writers who used Kyle in a way that no one ever wrote the Gls before; they really showed more of what the imagination part of the hero job could bring to the GL role, and how much Kyle expanded the concept and variety of the GL ring. Because frankly, Hal bored me after reading dozens of tales of being weak against yellow and finding a humorous or ridiculous way out of it (I grew up reading early SIlver Age tales of Hal) and I was bored seeing boxing gloves...
Kyle was the epitome of GL in my eyes, until writers began to EFF him up...
But anyway, I digress. I loved Barry, fell in love with the stories of Wally and finding new abilities, got to enjoy the flash family and the legacy that would come of them, and eventually found myself, to this day, one of the Flash Family's greatest fans (besides this last series and the end of the previous volume).
The GLs come in a very close second though, because I love them just a little less...

I like both concepts equally, therego I have to go with which has the better villains... And really, Batman's villains have trouble competing in coolness of Flash's Rogues Gallery.

Especially since Flashes villains actually managed to kill a Flash...

And the uniqueness about Flash's Rogues is that they actually figured out the "let's fight together and we'll have better chances" idea...if that doesn't make them better villains then I don't know what does.

Flash's Rogues were made bad asses by Geoff Johns, especially Cold. I believe Cold was the one that gathered them together as a team. And yes they managed to actually a Flash, but I don't think that Bart Allen to be Flash yet or it was poor writting, I don't know.
But I've a fan of Green Lantern since Emerald Twilight, so that is it.
Dead or alive my opinions will be be like me, a trouble-maker.
