Anyone else as excited about this as me?
From what I have seen it looks like they are going to add scenes with Leionidas' wife which may be cool or may not... may just be an excuse to show more women in togas and stuff.
All I know is, I can't wait for March

Just saw a preview for it before Pan's Labyrinth (which I really enjoyed, BTW)--- It made me want to go out and kill a Persian eunuch.
... And I don't get those urges a lot, so...

I visited Thermopylae as an undergrad intern on a grad student summer "dig" about 11 years ago--- the place is hallowed, and practically resonates with what was accomplished there. The sacrifice of Leonidas and his men was one of those cornerstone moments in history. The world would have been a very different place today if the Spartans had not held the Hot Gates.
No homoerotic jokes, there, please; that last bit wasn't a pun.

Even if I was clever enough to make an innappropriate innuendo to that, I don't think I could live up to whatever build up you laid down before me... freaking dave..... That sounds awesome about how you went on that dig though! I was reading message boards about how people were angry at how historically unaccurate it is, but I am pretty sure when Miller wrote it he wasn't thinking to himself, "Jeeez, if only I could write this comic book like it was an exact docmentation of what happened there." Because if nothing else, Frank Miller is concerned about things grounded in reality.

I've not read Miller's version yet, though it seems I should. The movie looks incredible, if a bit visually anachronistic in parts.
BTW, that same summer, we visited the site of the naval battle of Actium (where Octavian's fleet defeated Antony's and Cleopatra's). This was actually the "dig" we were on (I say "dig" becase we were on the water); Thermopylae was just a side trip.

First, yes I am super pumped...as my avatar probably shows.
As for Miller's amazing graphic novel. No it is not 100 per cent accurate. But then it is not intended to be a documentary.
For instances, Spartans wore ARMOUR into battle. Miller's Spartans are naked but for the cloak and helmet. It was done, as I understand it, to highlight a Spartan reality....the uber intense training they underwent from childhood and the Spartan obsession with physical perfection. These boys were as near perfect physical specimens as you could get.
He also takes some licence with the Persians, particularly Xerxes. We know generally want he looked like from Persian frescoes. He was bearded, wore a typical style of Persian clothes included the crazy slippers with the curled toes. Miller's Xerxes, like his Spartans, is a much more physical character. He appears African and is draped in gold. Makes for an amazing visual.
Perhaps the most interesting artistic change he makes though is in the character of Ephialtes - who historically was a Greek farmer who betray the Spartans at the Hot Gates. Miller draws him as a grotesque hunch back, almost monstrous in form. Compared to the almost perfect looking Spartans, his appearance highlights what he is truly is - ugly. But his ugliness is bore out by what he does, not what he looks like. In effect, he becomes the monster he appears to be.
There are other things you could nit pick, but the brilliance of the book is how it lays out the battle as the Greeks at the time must as seen it. The battle became the rally cry for Greece to fight off the Persians, much like the Alamo was for the Americans.
I am totally pumped to see this.

I saw the movie two days ago...Loved it.
Had a thrill-gasm from the fight scenes.
Felt intense emotion at some of the plot twists
Took five minutes or more after the movie had turned black adn the credits had finished just to get myself together
Lovely

Best comedy ever!!!
Seriously, it was an awesome movie. Even when Ephialtes betrays the Spartans, you completely understand why... Um, not just the taking part in the orgy, but also because all he wanted to do was fight alongside his people. And the fight scenes? Amazing, absolutely amazing.

I'm a thrill junkie, and watching breathtaking fights gave me eyegasms. They were beyond awesome. And the funny thing with Ephiates (good job remembering that name by the way) is that my gf was mad at him for betraying the spartans. Me...I told her if he was a normal guy, yeah, I'd be ticked. But...the guy made Quasimodo look like Esmeralda...yes, I said Esmeralda. If I was him, I'd participate in licking and fondling and lesbians.
