I remember a poll a while back which gave us like twenty choices for GL of choice.
SO NOW I ASK THE IMPORTANT QUESTION!
Whats your thinking, mates?

shouldn't that progress backwards to make your point? every month, every week, every day... it's just better organization of sequencing to narrow down as opposed to working backwards the way you have done there.

Well I prefer Guy to either one, but really why does it have to be one or the other, anyway? Isn't there room for both?

1. Kyle - I started really taking comics seriously around the time when Kyle started as GL. I really liked the everyman quality he had which made him good for fighting crime on Earth, but he worked well in space threats as well. He's got a sense of humor, and I think he's the most human (emotionally and in terms of all of the Earth GLs. 2. John - The man he is now is a great leader, and his journey - from being an angry young hero, to having to deal with being responsible for the death of a planet, the death of his wife, and overcoming paralysis - makes how he is today impressive and inspiring. 3. Hal - There's a little bit of this guy in all of us, the fight for his beliefs til the end, daredevil, sometimes arrogant, hero. When looking for an iconic GL, this is where to go.

I guess I'll stick the thread and let Charlie and Brigante133 run off in a corner with all their derailment. I prefer Kyle. He is DC's version of Spider-Man. No matter how much crap you pile on him, he will rise and overcome it. I loved how he handled the situation when his friend was beaten up, just because he was gay. The story was great and it show that Kyle is just like real people. Hal Jordan seemed to me like he was a thrill chaser and death seeker. He is fearless and that can lead to wrecklessness and that is the path to the DARK SIDE. When he was turned into Parallax, I was amazed, but the event that made him snap was something that the other heroes never had to deal with. And Hal Jordan turning into Parallax was something that was a natural thing, in my opinion. I hopefully H.E.A.T. doesn't come after me . My Two-Cents Mischief

I see I wasn't need to return the thread back! But I'll put my two cents in.
I began comics with Hal, and I like him, but as a kid, he wasn't more than just that cool guy with that cool ring. When I began buying my own comics a bit older, Kyle was my guy. And not because he was the GL of the moment, but because I could relate to him. He was a teenager/young adult, for the most part, and he wasn't absolutely great but he was coming into his own. Really, I also took a shine to him because he parallel Wally, my generation's Flash, so well, and I loved Wally (Wally was one of the reasons I stayed with comics so long when I was younger and poorer).
But I did hate one thing...and this gave me animosity to Hal...
I knew Hal was coming back when but a year or so ago, everybody began to treat Kyle as a rookie. Every writer picked him up and made him more whiney, more naive, and more incapable of being a good GL, even though the last 10 years have established him as a capable hero. I hadn't really heard anyone really call him a rookie and mean it in a long time, and all of a sudden everybody in the DCU was getting on him. I think even all the new superheroes were getting their chance to call him a rookie (alright, I'm lying here, but I could almost see Blue Beetle III, Kid Devil, and Lil Barda calling him rookie because of his treatment).
On top of that, Hal got all this hype. I know DC was trying to please fans and make Hal cool to the younger generation, but it was like everytime you saw Hal, they made an opportunity to show off a quality. In Rebirth, he was absolutely the most capable GL. Then he punched Batman to show that he had balls and he doesn't take crap. Then, though poor John was supposed to be his partner, writers took every opportunity to make Hal a leader and though it was small things, he was always shown making decisions and pointing out things to John as if John was a rookie (all appearences together after Rebirth basically).
Okay, I'm ranting.
I love all GLs, but I can't stand when writers screw up other characters for the sake of making one bad ass again.
Now Hal is back to boxing people and being cool while Kyle is gallivanting around the cosmos in half ass stories...Is John even around anymore? Does he do anything?
At least Gardner stayed cool...I loved him in the GL Corps mini.

And the yellow bug thing? Good effort on Geoff but still I hate the explanation.
It's cool what Geoff did, because he made sense of the yellow thing, and why Guardians look for people without fear. But if it wasn't Hal's fault (of what he did before), he wouldn't have been in purgatory during Day of Judgement, he wouldn't have been the Spectre, Ganthet wouldn't have been talking about the fallen son of Oa of whatever he referred to him as when he's shown up the last ten years, and he shouldn't be going around like nothing happened...
I know the only reason Hal was made to go bad was that DC wanted to attract younger readers, which pissed off the old readers, but now they're doing the same thing to those of us who grew up with that storyline in mind and those of us who watched Kyle become a kick ass GL.
I mean...come on...he left behind boxing gloves and bubbles and brought in all kinds of kick ass constructs...he's taken down galactic warlords with constructs of Marvin the Martian (I think) and he's taken on armies with everything from samurai warriors to animal battalions to cartoons.

Yeah, but that was just because Superboy was banging on the walls of reality and changing history. See? That explanation works for everything!

well i guess technically he would still be a rookie gl because he was never part of the corps before (totally rhymes) it would be like batman deciding to be a cop. yes, he's done all the cop work and more before (on a roll) but he's not a cop, he was a guy doing cop work. see what i'm saying? kyle was never trained or guided so he wasn't a "real" green lantern the way hal, john, or even guy were. see what i mean?
