Has anyone visited joined in with the UDCU?
I went there last night to post my Superman comic to share with the readers there and it was deleted. I received a polite message from one of the moderators about not following protocols and restrictions and that if I wanted to get my comic up on there I couldn't share it in a sub-forum but only if they accepted it into their Elseworlds forum...
Now I've always assumed that a fan-fiction forum is all about promoting fan fiction and free speech etc etc but I think it's a little crazy for this, an unprofessional and fan-run project, to come up with extensive rules and regulations that prevent people from showcasing their work unless all the t's have been crossed and the i's dotted.
I'm from the UK and I don't know a huge amount of comic book fans. But you see TV shows like The Simpsons with their 'Comic Book Guy', portraying the comic fan as rude, arrogant and obesessed with doing things 'the proper way'.
My point? DC2 is easy, flexible, friendly and really welcoming. Compared to DC2, UDCU is hostile and just plain ridiculous.

I've only really checked out a few other fan-fic sites and a few fan forums and that sort of thing, but from everything else I've seen this is a pretty rare place. Everyone is welcome and jives well with one another. Any of those sites Ive seen there is constant bickering, flaming and complete tearing down of anyone not walking there walk. My point? You are correct, it is better here than similar sites. Spread the word!

We're a community of people who love what we do! What's the point of having a go at people who share the sentiment? The DC2 loves you! Don't make it feel bad and neglected, until you break up over some silly argument that neither of you can remember who started... Keep posting your awesome mini

I have yet to look for another similiar type sites, but my thinking is if you like where you're at, there is no reason to look else where. That is my opinion. Once I came here I was hooked.

I have never posted on another fan fic site and may have visited two like once in my whole life. I dont even consider DC2 a fan fic site as it is so much more than just people posting stuff. So much thought and work goes into to making sure its something others can enjoy as well as yourself and still...ahem...'honouring DC' (sorry I find the fact that I said honouring a comic book but you get my idea). Anyway Ive never thought of this place as a fan fic site.
This place is DC2. Nuff said.

I agree with "Q". I honestly see this site as it's own comic publishing house...just without the money lol Everyone truly "works" here, sans a paycheck, but with just as much work. I think anyone here could graduate to a professional book and become a top writer/artist. We have a good pool of talent here, we truly do.

I post some fic on DeviantArt, but that's hardly the same thing as here....and I'm not going to relate the story of the swords and sorcery fanfic site I used to be on. You guys know me by now; I'm sure you can guess what happened.
I am on Force.Net still, though. But that's not nearly as important as what I do here.
Edit: And I will get around to reading Order of the President, one of these days.

I love this place too. I came here at first as a place to put up my comic but I'm slowly reading more and more of the stories on offer here and I'm damn impressed, not to mention really chuffed to have such positive feedback on my comic - like it's become an unofficial DC2 item itself! I'll definately have to have a chat with Mark about getting it stapled into the Elseworlds forum and will put a DC2 logo on the cover of the next issue!

The DC2 is only as good as the people that get involved and share their talent and enthusiasm--- we all build it together, everyday! You guys are the biggest part of it.

Ummm... No Well in my opinon they only have i good writer named Lissilambe i think and they pretty much dog each other especially the writer mentioned above, they then decide to get rid of superman a title that no one supposedly pitched but no noe touched cause most of the members believed that the claim was being worked out. and even though don't come here often this site and multiversecomic.proboards100.com/index.cgi has gotten me back into the fanfiction fix.

Hello everyone! Very interesting thread going on here, so I hope you don't mind if there's a response from "the other side" on these matters.
First of all, in regards to the removal of Superman: Orders of the President, that was done because the story was in the wrong forum. We have a layout very similar to just about every other community of this nature (including the one here), and we have similar (though different) rules for pitching, claiming and writing titles in our group. Much like this group here (and I've gone wandering through the rules fora and the board layout here before responding, so I would know something of what I speak of), we have an Elseworlds board where Darthsylly's story would have gone. He'd have received his own sub-board, and finding his tale from the day he posted it to the day we ceased to exist (hopefully never, the dream of all such groups) would be easy. Put into the "general discussion" forum would have seen it lost from the group, buried in discussions that have nothing to do around his story. Also, having pitched the story as an Elseworlds (something you people also have; in fact, you have an actual form for pitching such stories), he'd have then gotten "staff" status, allowing him to create a discussion thread for people to respond and tell him what he thought of his work (along with access to a couple of staff only boards). Maybe it's crossing t's and dotting i's, but it's done here (and in this very thread, praised several times). So he's welcome to request the story be an Elseworld and we'll be happy to put up his board. We'd still do it, in fact.
The Superman issue was a controversial choice, I assure you. We debated the idea of Superman in our continuity long and hard. Between the current version of UDCU, and the previous UDCU (which we grew from), we've been around a little over two years. In that time we've had four or five abortive Superman series (never going past a couple of issues), and two or three other aborted claims (which never generated an issue after we accepted it...and we're pretty loose on what we accept for series, I might add). It was growing pretty clear that Superman would be reduced to a support character in maybe another series, and/or difficult to put into his iconic place should he ever show up, as more and more of our history was written and our stories were developed. There might have been other options, but inspired by the excellent Elseworld's Finest: Supergirl and Batgirl, I proposed to our crew that we remove Kal and go without. Bold, controversial, but we decided to go for it. Some people aren't happy with the idea, others are warming to it, some others are excited by the possibilities. Regardless, it was the same kind of choice made by UDCU's administrators that you all have made here with your universe (such as the way you've blended Captain Marvel into your history).
Finally, our premise for the UDCU is just that...an Ultimate DC universe, inspired by Marvel's Ultimate universe. Taking known concepts and "ultimizing" them, finding new and interesting ways to stay true to the heart of the concept and yet go in different and exciting directions. So for us, removing Superman from the UDCU (or really, making any such moves) isn't the trauma it would be if we stated such a thing for a universe like your DC2.
As for registering with our community, no one has ever been banned since we were reborn last summer. If someone has had trouble joining our group, we apologize. It can be a bit of a multi-step process, but that's because our older board was spammed a few times that violated our ToS and nearly cost us UDCU on two occasions. We're a bit paranoid as a result. Joining is a matter of registering, receiving a welcome email that asks you to write a message to our introductions board, which then waits moderation (something done by any four administrators, so there's rarely any delay). After that, you're clear, and have access to the entire community. And if there are questions, we're always ready to answer them.
I wish to humbly thank the person who complimented my writing, earlier in this thread. I try hard. I love these guys, and I love writing, so I'm glad it's enjoyable. But personally, I think Mockingbird, Eric the Pilot and Rouge Rogue also write solid, killer material, and should definitely be checked out.
And last but not least, I'm not sure what dogging is supposed to be done, but if it's being a bit critical of stories, then yeah...I tend to be. It's tough, I'm really rather finicky. But on the other hand, if I'm actually saying something, then I think there's solid promise in the story, and try to say so as well. If by dogging you mean something else, please let me know. NOne of us want to see bad issues eating at our community. We have a good bunch of people, and I'm proud of the work we've done. Any and all of you, please feel free to stop by and check us out.
Meanwhile, keep up the good work yourself, and remember, now I'm just a PM away if there are any questions you have for UDCU, or if there are comments that need to be checked on.
Good writing, good fortune, and all of you Take care Don

Hey, can we get some links to UDCU? We're all the same kind of person here, the kind of people who want to read stories about superheroes as they should be done (undiluted by the ego of EICs with mandates and quotas to fill) and also get them free, so if we do some cross promotion, we can widen each other's audience, and maybe get you a Superman title started (in fact... I'm tempted to try and pitch you something)!
