Another legend passes on... Mark Evanier is reporting on his blog that comics legend Martin Nodell, creator of Green Lantern, passed away today at the age of 91. Read the rest of the article...I had the good fortune of meeting Marty Nodell at the Chicago Wizard Con a number of years ago. He was a super nice guy who seemed to be enjoying himself sitting back in the private tables and watching the crowd as they went by. His son was there helping him and also seemed to be a pretty decent fellow who understood his father's legacy and those who appreciated it. I was lucky enough to have Mr. Nodell sign my Kingdom Come hardcover (the scene where the creators appear behind Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, etc. which showed Mr. Nodell behind Alan Scott). He was one of the originals who happened to be a genuinely great guy and will definately be missed.

that is very sad news. When I went to my first convention this spring I also got to meet him. He seemed like a genuinly kind person and signed a GL mousepad that I bought from him. He created a legend, and will be missed.

Marty Nodell also created another famous pop icon character as seen in the piece of commissioned art below... While you're at it, check out this really nice tribute piece by Dean Trippe... dryponder.livejournal.com/97989.html

Sounds like a great guy, wish I could have met him. I wonder what his take on the current comics industry was and how he felt on the stories his character has been in. Did he ever talk about that?
