I know he has nothing to do with DC. But I wanted to write on him and get your thoughts because he has become a bit frustrating for me.
I have a lot to say but i'm too tired to say it now.
But anyway, I'm reading the latest Wizard magazine and reading the articles on Marvel and Civil War, and specifically just finishing the article on the Avengers and moving into the Ultimates.
Is it just me, or does Bendis hype up everything he's going to do?
Don't get me wrong. He's a great writer and has done a lot. But he hypes a lot of things a lot of the time and falls short sometimes.
Reading the Avengers article, he has all these "secrets" we're supposed to go into in this next year, but then half way through the article he begins to tell you secrets.
We're not even done with Civil War but we're already discussing the repercussions, and while you can't tell the actually finale of the story, you can tell that a large part of the Marvel U will be based on the Registration pulling through.
And why reveal your big villains for the next year already? Not even little hints. We know for sure he's doing Ultron and Dr. Doom, which will supposedly be all new interesting ideas for the two.
And not to be cynical, but I have a feeling that the whole Avengers stuff is going to lead to another gigantic Marvel crossover. He says "The one thing people won't get until six months after Civil War is that Mighty Avengers and New Avengers are telling the same story. These stories are headed towards each other to another very, very large story that we're going to tell next year."
I think he's talented. Very. But I think he's been heading too many Marvel Projects, so much that my friend (who doesn't pay attention to the company stuff) thinks he is the Marvel E-i-C. Also, having almost every major Marvel project under him has to make him think a lot, and while some ideas perform well, others don't. And now I'm tired of hearing "this is going to change things incredibly in the next few months" or "this is something never done before" or "I'm doing something that will change the way you look at [insert character/event/thing here]"
Plus, he seems to make a habit of putting characters together, just to tear them apart or resurrect them when he kills them. Ultimate Spiderman, Avengers Disassembled, New Avengers, New Avengers Disassembled, Daredevil, and more all show this. In fact, after making Kitty and Peter an item in Ultimate Spiderman so recently he is about to tear them apart too. I bet that Civil War, though written by Mark Millar, was largely influenced by BMB (since the project was outlined with meetings of all the main Marvel writers).
What do you guys think?
