..The ULTRAVERSE?
I really thought it was primed (no pun intended) to take it's place as one of the big two (or three) comic book publishing companies before Marvel bought and shelved it.

I've read somewhere that the agreements the creators/original creative teams have left over from Malibu give them too high of a royalty cut so Marvel refuses to use the characters. They'd rather let them sit on the shelf then pay out the amount that would be required to revisit the books.
It's sad. I remember a few of the books being pretty fun. Mantra was the crazy one with the guy in a girl's body right? Prime was interesting too.

Is that really why Malibu hasn't been around? That's crap. They can't even do a special every now and then?

Anyone not writing 100 stories a month here interested in writing some ULTRAVERSE on another site?

Anyone not writing 100 stories a month here interested in writing some ULTRAVERSE on another site? Well I'm not writing a 100 stories a month here yet, but I do want to keep the option open to write at least one or two monthlies here in the future (*bats eyes at editors*) and I don't know what the Ultraverse is really. Edit: Oh that Malibu stuff? Never mind. Not enough experience with it.

Is that really why Malibu hasn't been around? That's crap. They can't even do a special every now and then? I read that somewhere, Crow, but I can't swear by it. I think Men In Black was the only property to get any play after Marvel's initial purchase and then realization what they'd gotten into. Hang and let me google it. Okay, here's some excerpts from the Malibu entry on Wikipedia... "As sales declined industry-wide in the mid-1990s, Malibu cancelled lower-selling series. The company was purchased by Marvel Comics in 1994. Reportedly Marvel made the purchase to acquire Malibu's then-groundbreaking in-house coloring studio, and/or its catalog of movie-licensable properties. Others believe that Marvel simply wanted to put a significant competitor out of business. Marvel cancelled the entire Ultraverse line, but (during the Black September event) re-launched a handful of the more popular titles as well as a number of crossovers with Marvel characters. The "volume 2" series each started with "#∞ (infinity)" issues and were cancelled a short time later. Within the Marvel Comics multiverse, the Malibu Universe is designated as Earth-93060."and "In June 2005, Marvel editor-in-chief Joe Quesada told an online interviewer that he had once hoped to revive the Ultraverse, but that the "initial structure" of Malibu's contracts with the Ultraverse creators entitled them to share in profits made with these characters, making any revival "next to impossible". Some creators have gone on to explain that while the contracts do entitle them to a small percentage of profits, their characters were created as 'work-for-hire' and Marvel's ownership is in the clear."Sounds like a contradiction there at the end so who knows for sure.

Thanks so much for the info KSM. I forgot Men in Black was a Malibu property. That's the only Malibu comic to make it big and become a household name, for a while.
