I like both, but I think I'm going to have to go with pie.

I should have seen this coming. I almost fell out of my chair laughing when I saw this thread!
Of course I voted for pie! Why? There was a restaurant in Sarasota Florida that I remember growing up. It was an Amish place that only served pie. They had over a hundred to choose from. It was truly heaven!
Now on the cake side I would say the half sibling to pie would be the wonderful German Chocolate cake! Good stuff indeed.
Now what is my favorite kind of pie? Please don't make me choose. You might as well ask someone their favorite child!
Now let the heated debate continue!!!!

Guess it depends on what kind of cake or pie.

I fell over laughing myself when I saw this thread. I am a cake man, myself. Chocalate cake with chocalate frosting is my favorite (and a large glass of milk). In fact my birthday cake was home made and was shaped into the bat symbol. Mucho impressive.
I do like pie, but I've never been fond of the crust. I usually end up throwing that part out. My favorite pie? A tie between peach and blueberry.

let me tell you something about pie, ANYONE can make pie. ANYONE. the crust is no big deal and anything goes in the middle and it really doesnt require much skill to cook up hundreds of flavors, hell even the amish could do it. but CAKE, cake has substance, it takes time and effort to make cake. you know what people eat in celebrations? cake, thats what.

Pie is good but its more limited. It's crust with a filling that's about it. Cake is so much more there's upside down cake, theres ice cream cake, theres strawberry short cake the list goes on. Yeah and like Ramon said celebrations have cakes ever see anyone blow out candles on a pie? Nope.

I believe there is a movie that shows pie has a versitily that cake can never match!
On a more realistic side, pie is the best. Cake shoves layers of pudding, fruit, and cream to try and be pie, but it just can't compare. The smell of pie alone puts it far above cake.

Well, it sounds fun to throw pies at people. Have you ever seen the Three Stooges have a cake fight?

I've seen cake fights. And they're way better than pie fights. And like they say, cake has more options. Cakes can have three floors, or more! Pie just one. Cake can have art, and decorations, and stuff. Pie not. A wedding cake, but there is no wedding pie. Cakes will rule the world!! (No, really, last day I saw them conspirating. And you MUST be on their side)

Pies are the food of the gods. I just had peach raspberry malba pie and it was awesome. Pie is simple...you eat through a layer of crust or whatever and go directly to the sweet fruit or creamy filling....cakes can dry up the liquid in yor mom quickly (meaning you should always have a drink nearby) and can be tedious and boring with having to eat layer after layer of stuff with one little layer that MIGHT have fruit, cream, icing, or the like. It's like a tease...
though i know there are exceptions, i've had more options that i've enjoyed with pies than i have with cakes...

I choose cake because of its cousin, the brownie, more specifically, the special brownie.

Hostess Fruit Pies! Who can resist that beautiful, luscious pies with real fruit filling and tender light crust... Apple and cherry. I love 'em both.

actually cheesecake is probably the best kind of cake, but it's really not considered cake, so never mind.

As my catch phrase is "I LIKE PIE!!!" I don't want to sound like a hippo-crit... (yes, I know... lousy pun) any way, It looks like Ramon and I can't agree on anything, but I think we can still be buds. Anyway... you haven't lived till you've tried my mom's apple pie, it came in like third place in a pie making contest!!! But my grandma's cherry is a force to be reckoned with also...

But my grandma's cherry is a force to be reckoned with also... This is a pre-emptive attempt to warn any and all members from a looming and dangerous inference. Stay away! Stay far away! (But for the record, I shot Pepsi out my nose when I read this!) Repeat: Go nowhere near this, folks!

Surely a pie is crust with stuff inside, yet a cake can be pretty much anything. Heck, could one not make a cake OUT of pies? or perhaps better a cake with a pie in the middle?
I think for those ideas I shall vote cake.
