So I just found this site today and decided I wanted to start reading, especially in preparation of this Crisis thing you have going on next week.
But I don't have time to read the hundreds of stories on here so can people either tell me the essential titles to read or give me the gist of what's going on in their titles so I am up to date?
Thanks, and you have a cool community here.

Taking your advice on board I headed for the first team book containing Green Arrow (always a wise move) and looked up New Outsiders, but something seems to be wrong. There are no issues there.

You've got to apply for the password... In the "Letters to Editor" forum at the top of the page, third section down. It's "Mature Readers" an' all...

He he. I like it. I've never actually seen a comic schop refuse to sell mature readers comics. I was buying War Machine MAX when I was like 14.

Good books and runs:
All Star #3: Green Arrow's origin!
Detective Comics #0-2: Batman searches for the unsettling truth behind the murders of women around Gotham City, all similar to one saucy serial killer from Victorian London..
Adventures of Superman #0-2: General Zod escapes from the Phantom Zone!
Detective Comics #6-8: The return of... The Reaper!
The Flash #4-5: Dr Spectro plans to destroy The Flash! And suceeds in... Ending the world?
New Outsiders #8: For one of the most unsettling events in DC2 history so far...
Batman #6: Batman vs... Batmite?
Nightwing #1: For backstory to Teen Titans, Detective Comics and the launching pad for one the best runs on a DC2 series so far!
Blue Beetle #1-4: A witty, fun and dangerous introduction to Ted Kord and the legacy of the Blue Beetle...
Weird Western Quarterly #0: Happy Birthday Jonah, hope it's not your last!
Elseworlds: The Knight #1-4: In the not so distant future Robin is no more, and in his place stands... The Knight!

I'm reading Suicide Squad at the moment, it's got me hooked. I'm already on issue 2.
I think I'll apply for the password for New Outsiders, read All Star #3 and then move on to Nightwing next. Do I have to have read Wonder Woman #1-8 to get #9?
ALso, I submitted some of my writing today, hoping to be able to write something. The TQ thread was out of date though so I didn't know what was available and from when.

If you're looking for Elseworlds, check out Batman: Locked Inside the Facade. (A sequel will be posting in the winter...)

Was going to say the same thing, but Shoe beat me to it. You're also here on time for the premier of The Question on a monthly basis!

Us Brits are all too polite to self-promote eh? Do/have any of you guys read comics stories on fanfiction.net? I was wondering if any of you have read one of mine.

I'll comment whenever I finish a storyline or get up to the latest issue. That's the way I usually do it. My work can be found at www.fanfiction.net/u/227219/ and the best stories are Batman: Legacy, Four Stars and Titans Reborn. All the others where flights of fancy I never got into. I'm looking forward to being able to write something for this site as it'll be a great way to get me writing all the time and not just when I have a deadline or coursework peice to do. I am really enjoying Suicide Squad, and I like how it is kind of a military comic that just happens to feature supervillains. It reminds me a little of Justice league Elite. WHich was also good.

I'm Esther-Channah on ff.net. I will try to check your stuff out later... (Several minutes later...) I really like Four Stars! Can't help noticing it hasn't been updated in over a year, though...

I just re-read one of my stories, Four Stars, which was based off an idea I had on the train for the character of the Reviewer and then inspired to be a Batman story from an article at CBR.
I will heartily recommend people to read this story, I feel it's the best short work I've done on FF.net. If there's ever an open spot to do Batman at this site, and I get it, this would be what my Batman would be like. Very detective story like, and with a good mystery and creepy villain in every one.
Now I'm self-promoting. I said us Brits didn't do that...

He he. Notice I replied before you posted that. I did have it all plotted but I had to get some uni work done and it fell to the wayside a little. Maybe if the EIC likes me I can make that my first story for DC2, I still have all my plots, notes and motivations etc.

Well you've got one... Two things going for you:
Enthusiasm. You're really getting into it!
And two: You seem to be reliable, making yourself part of the community. And that's always a pro when it comes to new writers...
But might I suggest to a new talent such as yourself that you pitch a short story to the upcoming SHOWCASE title, that's especially for new readers and writers to present their work to the community!

I never told you not to self promote! In fact as your new Editor, I whole insist that you promote. If you take a look, I was promoting your book over a certain other one that I shan't even mention *coughOutsiderscough* ;D Welcome, by the way! Anyone called spiderfan is great in my book!

I like it. I always thought DC should have a title like that for finding new and unpublised talent. Something neither major comic company seems to care about. I hope they see the error of their ways in 20 years when the talent pool is either behind the times or retired. Are there any characters that have yet to be seen in the DC2 universe that I could base my story around? It's only fair that if you have a Showcase title you should use characters that aren't in any of the other books.

... Uh... The Question! Oh wait, no, he's been appearing in The Question Quarterly and soon to be starring in The Question ongoing, written by me, and popular with most people! How was that Brian? Let me think, characters who haven't appeared yet... I don't know, there are so many! Just come up with a character to use and write a story, I can't wait!

How about something a little off the wall? I've got a couple of ideas along for these characters. Which one do people want to read most?
Jimmy Olsen, Superman's Pal
Gotham Central
Ragman
Adam Strange
EDIT: Let me know if they've already been seen in the DC2

Gotham Central is a concept that isn't on the table right now, but maybe in the second/third year of the site... Ragman yes! Jimmy Olsen yes! Adam Strange... Shh....

JImmy Olsen it is then. I've wanted to write this story for months now. By the way, I am a bit of a talker, hence the frequent posting/replying/quoting here. Everyone feel free to ignore me [ ] <goes off to plot/prepare> EDIT: Do I have a word limit?

Don't I know the feeling. Especially on one other board I frequent. It's me and two other guys all morning til the Americans get up.
One last question, is Bizarro fair game for my Jimmy Olsen story?

The ones I really wanted to pitch were Captain Marvel (and family), Doctor Fate, Green Arrow and Robin. But I think all of them have been or are being used except for Robin. I don't know who is Robin currently or if there is one, but I'd only want to do Tim Drake Robin stories.

Elseworlds is open for characters not in use in the DC2, and you can do anything with anyone there! Drop the elseworlds editor a line if you wanna get something released from that department (drdread)!
