Prior to JLU, 52 & Charlie's series I would have answered this differently...
The Question without a doubt.

As much as I wanted to go with The Question, I've always loved Phantom Strangers outfit the most. I think it's the hat.

I liked the art. That was clever... But the characterisation of the character made me want to write... The Question Quarterly... And The Question ongoing! (First week of next month!) Wow, I feel like Ellen! *beams*

You do realize that you both think the same character is cool right Charlie? That is OK you know? You can like something for different reasons. That would be like if someone liked the Suicide Squad because of the Keith Giffen series and never read the Ostrander series. Wait...that would be a stupid example! Nevermind! I am extremely curious how the Sandman made this list. Even though he is cooler then everyone else combined I never saw him in a suit? With that said I have to go with the Spirit! He is cooler then all but one here. This shouldn't even be debatable but I am sure someone not exposed to the legend that is Eisner will try and disagree!

The Sandman seemed an obvious choice to me (I was quite impressed with the comprehensiveness of the list - although Uncle Sam and Zatanna should arguably be on it). It's the Golden Age Sandman (suit, gas mask, and cloak) rather than Morpheus that's being referred to. Actually, even though I've read a few Eisner Spirit stories, and even an Alan Moore Spirit story, I don't find The Spirit that cool a character. Of the ones on the list I'd have gone for Doctor Occult, who I find cool just because he was DC's first superhero.

I too agree with the comprehensiveness of the list. It makes it more fun to debate this way.

Zatara wore a Tux and my tolerance for tuxedos wears thin during this time of year... because i am a hate monger.
Uncle Sam I didnt put on for the simple fact that he doesnt wear the suit by choice, but really because it goes along with his whole gimmick, can he change clothes? if so I am sorry Uncle Sam.

I narrowed my favorites down to the Spirit and the Question, and I went with the Question.
By the way, if you're going to vote for Rorschach, and because he's not listed, you might as well just vote for the Question. All the heroes in Watchmen were based on Charlton Characters (Rorschach- The Question and Mr. A, The Comedian- The Peacemaker, Nite Owl- Blue Beetle, Ozymandias-Thunderbolt, Dr. Manhattan is derived from Captian Atom, etc) with elements of other characters from Marvel and DC, along with new characteristics.

I have still not voted, and it isn't because I don't want to, I do! But how I can choose over one over so many legends who defined the genre. I guess I'll go for: "E.) All of the above".
