Hip Hop is my favorite genre, but I enjoy listening to jazz, soul, funk, R&B, and some rock.

See, I like Rock/Classic Rock/Metal... But I kind of class them in their own broad genre... But I'm going to go with Classic Rock. Metallica are old now, ain't they?

Not to be a snob, but I think that Classical should be added to the mix. The foundations of modern music are built upon the pillars of Bach, Mozart and Beethoven (just to name the demigods). And while I would be fooling myself (and everyone else) if I said Classical is my "favorite" genre, I not only appreciate it, but enjoy it immensely. Are there any more sublime sounds than "Fur Elise" or more masterful than Bach's Brandenburg Concertos, or more intense and frightening than Mozart's unfinished Requiem mass...?
That being said, I would also like to put in a vote for opera, as a sub-genre of classical. Once you've heard a singer as accomplished as, say, Renee Fleming, or (my personal favorite, Cecilia Bartoli) sing Verdi or Puccini, you will be converted, too.
Then, of course, there's the sturm und drang of Wagner...! A true dramatic addiction!
Any other classical/opera fans out there...?

I was in academic decathalon and I had to get into classical music a lot my senior year so yeah, i would say I like that music but I don't listen to it much now that, that class is over with and I got freaking destroyed on that test. I am suprised Jazz isnt on that list, that is one of the most underappreciated genres of music with some of the most heartful sounds out there and it seems to have such a dwindling audience.

So stop trying to catch up with me RnB just doesn't do anything for me, because no ones done anything new since ever. You have all these new rappers and they're basically recycling stuff from the last year, so if you show me something NEW and INSPIRED by a rap artist I'd listen, give it a go. Doesn't mean I'd like it though. Pop. Ahhh pop. You can't not like pop. You like it until you want to bite your own arm off for liking it but some songs are just so addictive. Now Chris... Where's Indie on that list?

I voted for other. I've got a huge selection of cd's that range from classic rock to classical, to musical, to country, to pop, to techno, to jazz, that I really can't make a decision.

wouldn't indie technically not need a genre since its really non mainstream people playing those kinds of music up there? RnB has never done anything new since ever? apparently Charlie's opinion of rnb is only based on music that only dates as far back as oh... a year or so ago... don't say rap or rnb is uninspired because you don't listen to enough of it Charlie. you make some really ignorant comments about music in this thread no wonder you keep trying to derail it.

I was just saying that as an example. I know of the NWA and groups like that, but really, back then, that was the only time it was original.

Oh, my mistake. I am such a n00b. I have been pwnd. Blah blah.
Thing is, in my mind, rap, garage and RnB are all the same things I do not like, so really... It's just a miscommunication because you do not know my definition of "RnB"

well RnB stands for rythm and blues not whatever your definition of it is. the miscommunication is probably because I just assumed anyone who used the term would know even the broadest definition of it and would know that the RAP group NWA would not be considered RnB by any standards. you weren't pwnd or whatever the hell you think it is but I just don't think you should go around saying things like "all rnb is the same" or whatever it was you said if you have NO clue what you are talking about.

Rhythm and Blues isn't what it was originally now though, is it? RnB groups are basically rappers swearing about hoes, and women dancing seductively.
Rhythm and Blues used to be John Lee Hooker, Little Willie John and Otis Rush, not what we've got going on right now...

Rhythm and Blues isn't what it was originally now though, is it? RnB groups are basically rappers swearing about hoes, and women dancing seductively. What? Why is it always rap that's generalized as just being violence, sex, and swearing? Look past MTV and the radio, there are some extremely talented artists that don't get a lot of time, if any, on TV/radio. People like Madlib, MF Doom, A Tribe Called Quest, and others have made some of the most original and creative music I've ever heard. Hip hop is a flexable genre, there's always new things to do with it, like mixing it with other genres. Saying rap is all talk about bitches and hos is like saying rock is just screaming, country is just a redneck singing about his truck, etc. And R&B is very different from rap. Check out Anthony Hamilton or John Legend, almost the complete opposite of NWA.

I like music that tells me a story. I hate it when a song is a hook sung over and over! And If can't understand the words or I can't hear the song cause half of the words are cut out, I don't listen.
