*laughs* politics, eh? no thanks, not my cup of tea. and as far as green arrow goes, he happens to be the dad of one of my favorite legacy characters, a mr. connor hawke. oh and house of mystery? thanks for the vote of confidence. i am very weary of speaking my mind in places like this, especially since most of the time a lot of what i say gets misconstrued or misunderstood. it's nice to know that there are open-minded people here willing to accept others based on what we have in common and not what separates us. *smiles* you've all made my day, you know... ... oh, and on the idea of organized religion? i think gathering in groups to celebrate what you believe is essential to growth and accountability to whatever system you hold to. however, there are many "churches" and organizations that have begun to step out of that role, that idea of loving one another regardless of the circumstances. the sad fact of the matter is that many of these people are the very public face of the church. *steps off soap box* sorry...

Yes, but some times, not all the time, organised religion can be used as something to seperate people, be it because of people not worshiping the right deity, or because people don't allow the others to even consider the idea of God... Or something...

Or something... Now in its defense, right after the accident if it hadn't been for the people in our church who gave us so much physical and spiratual help, the rest of my family could very well have been shattered even more then we were. So I do understand some of what others are saying. But I will never understand a church that can say "You will not partake of communion with us because you are not one of us. If you are a christian and you believe that the way through God is by his son, then you do have that right. The argument the becomes, If you are not Catholic, or Baptist, or Lutheran, like us, then you cannot partake with us. And that just sits very wrong with me. discussion?

nothing that humanity has ever had its hand in has been perfect. its what makes us who we are, organized religion included. to err is human. the goal is to get past the mistakes we've made in the past and reach out to those who we've pushed away, meeting them where they're at, at their level.
*chuckles*
i hope i'm not bothering anyone with this.

Not me. I don't take this stuff personally, I just find it all very contemplative. Good post, HoM!

Canadian politics are boring, and I'm certainly not going to advise any other nation about how to shape their political future...

And I don't think my opinion will be relevant because I don't live in America, so I have no idea what goes on there...

Yeah... Canadian politics IS boring. Thats what comes of living in a country where [at least on a basic level] everything is going alright. "I'm certainly not going to advise any other nation about how to shape their political future..." Ahh... If only we all took that view, the world would be a much more peaceful place.

I can appreciate a lot of what you said there, Starlord. I was raised in a religious family but at this point I've seen so much more negative than positive things come out of organized religion that I don't think there is any way I can get behind any of them. I believe that the core message in Christianity (as it is with most religions) seems to be lost is much of what I see going on today. I am agnostic but I have a lot of appreciation for Buddhism as it is one of the least intrusive religions and one which focuses solely on the individual, and not the social group. But, it really is impossible for me to say who's right and who's wrong as the whole thing is based pretty much on a hunch anyway.
Battlepope? It's so silly it's hard to believe someone would take issue with it, but I guess if you wanted to present it in it's best light you could say it was a parody of the militant nature of the Church? Ha.

Hope I am not going over the line with this thought, but in Christianity there is the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. Could there be a tie there to the trinity of DC? In some way does Superman represent the Father, with Batman being the Son and Wonder Woman being the Holy Spirit? WW has always been called the spiritual part of the trinity and Batman is the avenging son. I don't know, is all that really to far out there? Has my pain medication finally taken me over the edge?

I think the strength in the DC characters is to be seen in do many different ways and them being applicable to so many other belief systems. At once you can compare them to the Greek Gods but then also you can turn around and draw parallels between Superman and Christ. So, yeah, I can see the comparision. I would have to say good for anyone doing positive work inside any religion though and think it's very funny that Pastor is using the Matrix in teaching his religion. Ha. Makes total sense, just funny. So here's a question, if there were a Christian based super team would their headquarters be a giant cross? Sort of like the Titans Tower but with an extra bit on top?

KSM you are right about the greek gods idea and to further expand on that I also see Earth II's hero's that of the Roman gods, I mean Flash's helmet alone is one huge nod to that concept. I am interested on why you see Superman as the son and if so, who do you see represented as "the Father"? I guess a christian superhero group could have a cross as their headquarters, beats hanging out in a manger I suppose. ;D

Well, he's the "only son" sent from the heavens, has strange abilities, has set out on a mission to save us from ourselves and carries the burden of the world (albeit in a physical sense and not a spiritual one like JC, but is heavy on the moral inspiration part), and has died only to be reborn...... with a mullet. Not sure his resurrection was quite as eventful as Christ's but it would have been seriously creepy if he started his own religion at that point. I'm not sure there is a direct correlation to The Father but Marlon Brando was looking pretty heavenly in his white wig and silver dress in the Superman movies.

Hmmm, that's very good. LOL, not sure about the Brando bit though, but then again I think of the Father and still see George Burns. I'm also going to have to reread Kingdom Come soon. Ramon's comment is the third time I have read something along those lines. I love that book, just so much there.
