So what animated family truly deserves the crown? I've racked my brain on more, and my limited knowledge didn't help, but I put the "other" category up there, since many of you are more animation fans than I.

The Simpsons. Longevity man. They have had over ten solid seasons. Also they never had a dumb fake laugh track like the flintstones. Think about it this way Mr. Sprocket Vs Mr. Burns. It's a no brainer.

Guys ramon has apparently furthered the rumours that he is a hobbit by insult the 21st century. I love Family Guy (ive even got a Stewie pocket thingie that plays some cool catchphrases) however I voted Simpsons for its originality and wit. It really had wit and popular culture got a good farting on from it. Real smart comedy.

dude i voted for a south park family. I love that mission hill (although it got cancelled) I like aqua teen hunger force, tom goes to the mayor, robot chicken has its moments, boondocks is good, and i like MOST of the lineup that adult swim USED to play like space ghost, brak, harvey birdman, and hell even baby blues wasnt that bad. so its not really a matter of "new age" animation, its a matter of crappy animation that i don't like. I don't find the family guy/ american dad that funny so don't go pointing your fingers at me crying because i have rejected something you hold dear or whatever, learn to move on.
oh, and yeah i do like the simpsons to some extent but i find the new episodes really watered down but while I was growing up it was the coolest thing ever... but that was like 10 years ago.

It has although its still good just not golden any more. However after this many years you cant blame them for running out of ideas.

Yeah you can, because these people get paid to come up with stuff. It's their job, so if they don't come up with new ideas, they're not doing their job.

Oh the Hills!! Darn! I knew I was going to leave out something big. The Hills are awesome. Still I voted for Simpsons. They may not be what they once were, but for almost twelve years they were at the top of their game, and even with all the meaness that they may have showed each other, they also showed some real love between each other. I like Family Guy for a quick laugh or shock, but I don't see them as a real family. There doesn't seem to be any kind of bond between any of them. Actually the Bundies seem closer to me then the Griffins.

I would vote for the Ventures ;D but I have to give props to the Jetsons. I loved this cartoon as a kid and the visual realization here of the atomica aesthete is beyond awesome. They have rocket cars that become suitcases, machines that cut and fix your hair, houses that perch hundreds of feet (if not more) in the air, and a robot maid. That's the life for me!

I used to love the Jetsons, and the Flintstones, but one of my all time favourite animations? Dexters Lab.
AWESOMENESS!

The coolest was when the Jetsons had a crossover episode with the Flintstones. Now if they'd only do that with the Simpsons and Futurama...

yeah, that is a concept i wish they would bring to fruition. simpsons could use that kinda boost.
i did like in simpsons when awhile back there was a homer cloning device and who should come out but peter griffin? awesome.
but the coolest crossover was the southpark/simpsons one. Eat my shorts m*th*rf*ck*r. Great line.

If you are asking who deserves the crown for first family, then my answer is The Flinstone's. If it wasn't for them, their may never have been a George Jetson, or a Homer Simpson. Fred, Barney, and the rest, paved the way for prime time animation.

Fred Flintstone was the template on which many animated leads were based so yeah, you could say that! Cool observation T!

I would have said Flintstones 10 years ago. The Simpsons have spawned so many changes in animation and so many family centered shows I think they have taken the crown. 16 years of success is a pretty powerful achievement.

I agree with you artteach! The Flinstones were the first and deserve some huge recognition, but what the Simpsons did was take that animated family concept and turned it on its ears. It did for animated families what shows like Roseanne and Married With Children did for the family sitcom.
Not to mention the way the show, itself, continually threw pop culture references at us at lightening speeds.

I voted for the Simpsons. The show has been on the air for about 15 seasons, and although some recent seasons have been sub-par compared to older Simpsons episodes, the show continues to deliver laughs.
