Wasn't that redone by Darywn Cooke in his SOLO issue?
If so, I read that issue and I say it rules!

I don't see how you guys can even pick. Everytime I start thinking about an entry for this thread like a dozen different stories pop into my head and I can't really narrow it down.

Saga of the Swamp Thing #21 "The Anatomy Lesson" by Alan Moore. When we, as the reader, find out that Swamp Thing is actually a plant that just thinks it's Alec Holland, it's hard not be shocked. Just an incredible story.

All of the Grant Morrison JLA run. Tower of Babel is my favorite. I also like Divided We Fall, but I can't remember for sure if Morrison wrote that one too. Mark Waid on JLA is also very good.

Okay, My top of my head top ten would be.
Kingdom Come - It has everything.
Watchmen - This one crept up on you. The first issue did not have a big promo. When you went to the Comic Shop everyone was talking abort it. A few issues in you knew it was something special.
Question It to 36 Sin City owes alit to this series that was as much about Hub City as the Question.
Uncle Sam - Wow Alex Ross Wow.
Batman War on Crime Best Batman story ever. Dini and Ross perfect
DKR
Authority - Before Jewry sparks died this was excellent.
Planetary - Go and buy this Now!
Supreme Power -I Know it is Marvel, but it is based on the JL. A.
the Adventures books Gotham, superman, Justice League they are all good. Most are better than the regular series.

From what I've read, I'd have to say CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS. It was just so perfectly plotted out, and though it got confusing at some points, everything made sense. It was also one of the few crossovers, to this day, that made good on it's promise that it would change the DCU forever.

Watchmen it's the best I've read, in the other hand I'm almost new to comics.
Blitz by Geoff Johns is really really good also.

I'm going to have to say Crisis on Infinite Earths, even if it did get confusing some of the time. It also took a while to read... Anyways, that's all I have say ;D
