I want to know what story DC have published since... ever... is you favourite.
This can mean Watchmen, or JLA #1-4 etc.
I nominate Starman #77-79.
How about you?

Well, I've got to say, Kingdom Come surpassed anything I had read before (or since). Great writing and great art (I especially loved the little swipes at the Superfriends).
Dark Knight Returns is probably my second.

I'm extremely partial to the whole of Peter David's Supergirl series. So I'd really have to go with that.
But close up is the entirety of Gail Simone's BoP work, and Catwoman: Selina's Big Score.

Well it's not DC, but X-Men #98-138 were really great stuff. DC would have to be Kingdom Come, A Death in the Family, and COIE. But I do agree with Canary that the entire run of Simone with Bird of Prey is fast becoming legandary to me.

I have to go with Identity Crisis. Like it or not the story made us look at DC characters in a different light. It will still be talked about ten years done the road. Just like Watchmen and Batman: Year One.
Runner-ups would be Batman ( Red Hood storyline ) . I hope it turns out not to be Jason Todd. I believe that some characters need to stay dead to give the main characters life. Bucky Barns is another one. It still is a good storyline.
The New Manhunter. Marc Andreyko took pretty much a crappy character in DCU and totally redefined it for the new DC. I just wish Jesus Saiz was still doing the artwork. Javier Pina is pretty good but in my opinion Jesus is better.

* LSH: Great Darkness Saga * COIE * The Crisis on Multiple Earths crossover that featured the JLA, JSA, All-Star Squadron and introduced Infinity, Inc. * NTT: The Judas Contract * The entire run of Sandman Mystery Theatre
To name just a few...

Ooh, I forgot about the Judas Contract. That was a fantastic arc.
I didn't hate the Long Halloween either.

Ooh, I forgot about the Judas Contract. That was a fantastic arc. It was great, but they let the cat out of the bag too soon. Terra was revealed a traitor in issue 34(?) and it was nearly a year until the Judas Contract was published. I would've prefered if they had pushed the revelation closer to the end of the story arc.

My first instinct is to go with The Golden Age by James Robinson with the Shade mini-series following a close second, but I want to be different, so I'll say Cosmic Odyssey by Starlin and Mignola. Big, brash, other-worldy and cool. What a big event should be.

Big, brash, other-worldy and cool. What a big event should be. Not to mention the utter beat down & humiliation of an over-confident and cocky John Stewart. The culmination of which brought us the villain Fatality. Just imagine coming back to Earth after causing the destruction of a planet to find your wife dead at the hands of a friends ex-lover... not the best week for Johnny.

Dragonbat: "Close Before Striking" That was an absolutely amazing story. The Al Jolson line had me in stitches. If it weren't for this I would not have known about Brian K Vaughn, and would not now be reading Y and Ex Machina.
And as for The Judas Contract...
"It was great, but they let the cat out of the bag too soon. Terra was revealed a traitor in issue 34(?) and it was nearly a year until the Judas Contract was published. I would've prefered if they had pushed the revelation closer to the end of the story arc."
That's not quite true... because it wasn't a revelation. The official line is that Terra was never a traitor, she was a spy. She was never supposed to be one of the good guys, so it was made clear from the beginning that she was one of the villains, just like Slade. The fact the audience expected her to have a change of heart and become a hero does not make her actually being a villain a revelation. The whole point was to play with audience expectations... and have a laugh at X-Mens expense!
My favourite... Hmmm. I love Bruce Wayne Murderer/Fugitive. Good writers who were all working on books that suited them. The Bat books haven't been that good again. No Man's Land is a huge favourite too. It remains the most extensive arc ever written in comics. I like DKR and DKSA. I personally prefer DKSA but I think DKR is the BETTER of the two. For non Batman stuff, I would say the little I have read of Alan Moore on Swamp Thing is amazing. Crisis on Infinite Earths defines everything in the DCU before and since. And [although I know this is Vertigo] I think 'One Small Step' [issues 11-15 of Y:The Last Man] is also very good. Overall, because it was so far ahead of its time in so many ways... I'll give it to The Dark Knight Returns.

I'd like to throw out there: The return of Barry Allen storyline in Flash. Mark Waid is a fantastic writter and he showed a love for both Wally and Barry. Each issue built on the previous until the big big big finale! One of my all time favs!

For the Man who has Everything. Alan Moore/Dave Gibbons. I'm a big Supes fan and that one book summed up everything for me that Kal-el is. The emotion that he showed, happiness at having his homeworld back, sadness at losing it again, the rage he had towards Mongul, and the grandness of his scope. "You know that black hole as come in via the western arm of the spiral galaxy? I' think I'll drop him in it."

I am in a weird mood so I am gonna throw out there the BREAKDOWN story arc from Justice League Europe and Justice League America. Keith Giffins swan song on the book and the story that made me go back and read the entire run!

jumping fishhooks how could i forget how much i love Emerald Twilight??? in my opinion the coolest GL fight scenes EVER! I concur. I'm on eof the few Hal fans that actually thought Emerald Twilight needed to happen. His book was stagnant. And I still find it unbelieveable how well John's pulled off rebirth without negating anything that came before. Truly inspired.

a Detctive Comics issue titled: Night Of The Stalker.
It has Batman chasing bank robbers. Batman does not say a word through the whole issue, and the last panel is the best in Batman's history, in my humble opinion.
