Just thought this was interesting. In NC our speaker of the house Jim Black is being challenged for his seat by none other than Hal Jordan! Does anyone else have any instances where real life people have Superhero names?

I have a friend whos initials are JLA.
I am considering some of the following names if I have kids Wesley, Floyd, and Wally (a special no-prize to whoever can tell me which hero each is named after).

Well I couldn't resist. Wall West is my favorite character in the DCU. The original Sandman was one of the coolest golden age characters ever. And good old Floyd...I couldn't pass that up! I mean come on! It's Deadshot! ;D On the kids note. My wife would kill me before she let me name one of our kids after a comic book character. She won't even let me name a daughter (if we have one) Bridget afer Bridget Fonda!

Yeah, don't tell them how you get the name. My oldest son's name is Ben. I named him after Peter Parker's uncle. I just didn't tell his mother that. Thank God she liked the name, cause I know she would never have gone for Slade.

I almost have my wife convinced on Kyle... the only reason she holds back a little is because she knows why. Now if she'll only go for Leia for a girls name...

What??? Kyle??? Name the boy Guy!!! Can't... that's my Dad's name. My wife is Jewish... that means I'd be condemning him to an early grave. So Kyle it is! I just can't see anyone naming anyone Harold. And she'd never go for Hal since that's like a name I use several times, daily...

My oldest daughter's middle name is Rhea. Mother of the gods in Greek mythology. That's as close as we got to anything on the esoteric side.

O.K. My ex-wife liked the name Kara, it didn't matter where it came from. It's not like I introduce her, Hi, this is my daughter Kara she's named after supergirl.

My ex-girlfriend and I had talked about baby names. One name she absolutely loved for a girl was: Tiamat!!! I warned her that a girl named Tiamat would never get a moments peace from D&D geeks.

I'm all for naming a child Rot Lop Fan, Kilowog or Mogo; as long as the child isn't mine.

I just can't see anyone naming anyone Harold. And she'd never go for Hal since that's like a name I use several times, daily... You can kind of fudge around the naming thing, though -- the main thing is that the child's *Hebrew* name isn't the same as a living relative's --- the English one isn't as key an issue. My sons share English names with two of my cousins, both living...but their *Hebrew* names (and the relatives whom they were officially named for) are different. Now, to the comics naming thread -- I really wanted to name a boy Garth. My late husband rejected the name as a choice for our first child because he wasn't crazy about the name. For our second, he rejected it because by then, he knew *why* I wanted it as a name. I got my payback, though -- our youngest son's name is the same as my favorite baseball player's name (which also worked because we were going to officially name this baby after someone on my husband's side of the family, and his late maternal grandfather's first name was the same as my favorite's middle name, so The Plan Came Together). I didn't tell him until after the birth certificate was a done deal. The family cats' names, however, have all fit a theme. Our first cat was Kako (Koryak's mother), followed by Tempest, Atlanna, Mera and Makaira (very obscure -- in the Pozner/Hamilton Aquaman mini -- that introduced the blue camo suit -- she was Vulko's wife, only mentioned in this mini and never seen nor heard from again). We've also had beta fish named Orin and Thar.

no kyle! if or when i have a son, my wife hears nothing of a green lantern untill after the certificate is made. And for a girl, go for Arisia.... Friends of mine named their daughter after Robin, but spelled it Robyn. If you really want to goof with your wife's head, if you have a boy, name it Jordan or Stewart.... (sometimes, you've got to go for stealth and subtlety....)
