Ok, my better half asked me what I wanted to do for my.......ummm.....39th (yah that's it) birthday next year and I said I'd like to go to the San Diego Comic Con. Has anyone here ever been to one? Is it worth it? How early should we try and get a hotel room? Zny idea where the closer and somewhat cheaper one's that would be around the area, are? Is it better to go a full week or just a long weekend and how soon do you get passes for it? Peace, Brian

I've only been to Chicago, no San Diego as of yet. But, I would say that you should book your hotel as soon as possible if you decide to go.

For all things San Diego... I'm your guy. I've gone the last 8 years in a row and it is amazing! Check out the official site for info on the city... www.comic-con.orgadvice: You DO NOT want to stay too close to the convention because those hotels are astronomically priced. Aim for the ones that have a shuttle... all shuttles from the convention hall to the hotels are free to hotel guests. The maximum distance should be no farther than 10 blocks. otherwise, you're stuck riding the trolly or taking a cab... both very pricey. The exhibit hall alone is enormous, and it's just the bottom floor... there are 3 levels to the convention center. Do not go for just a day... go for the entire week or you'll never see what you want. Take comfy shoes, preferrably ones with steel toes since you will be walked on. Last years attendence was over 100,000 daily. Stay away from Peter (Chewbacca) Mayhew... he's a a-hole. Any other questions, let me know! I'll post some pictures if I can find them...

I went to the official Star Wars Con/Celebration III this year and there were more than a few of the stars that were, eh, less than sociable. But to be fair, Star Wars fans are pretty crazy.

We can be... but he doesn't need to be that big of an a-hole.

Thanks LL. That helps. Not sure I could make it an entire week. sounds like four day alone would be more then I could comfortably afford. The sight also talks about volunteering for like three hours a day and stuff and getting in free. Have you ever tried that?

No... I haven't. Knowing my luck I'd get stuck on the much hated crowd control (a good way to have things hurled at your head) or sanitation. NO THANK YOU! I hate cleaning up my own house, much less someone else's place.
