Question: Who likes this guy?
His art work, whatever?
I'm serious, because he has a big ol' fanbase on his forums, and I'm truly wondering, "Why?"
Anyone here a Liefeldite?

I'd like to keep the Liefield bashing to a minimum perhaps. We've all heard the complaints.
Let's hear what the fans like about Rob Leifield.
And as for my feelings about him, I admire him for being one the founders of Image Comics.

No, no... Don't get the wrong idea! This isn't a Rob Liefeld BASHING thread, just a thread where people can say WHY they like him. I mean... People love the guy for some "£$%ed reason, and I wanna know what it is!

Sorry, not really into his art.
Maybe someone else can shine some light on this?

i'll be the first to admit, when i was in middle school and high school, and he broke out with new mutants and x-force, i was all over that like flies on poop. same went with youngblood. heck, i still pull them out once in a while for a laugh. but i got older, and as my tastes began to refine and change, so did my appreciation for liefeld. however, i am still going to give the man credit where it is due... for a short time, he made me care about an "x" book and started me looking into "other" publishers. you guys also have to remember, the stud was in a Levi's commercial. that has to count for something.

you guys also have to remember, the stud was in a Levi's commercial. that has to count for something. Hummm... Wouldn't have expected that from a Pastor, but okay. I think one quality about Liefield that may draw some fans to him is that he does big action scenes. His style made you accept the liberties of his disporportioned figures. Todd McFarlane was another artist who took great liberties and with anatomy, but he was huge. There are a lot of artists who take artistic license with anatomy, including Jon Bogdanov, Eric Larson, Keith Giffen, Dale Eaglesham, Rags Morales and even Jack Kirby (and more)! So why are we singling out Liefeld???

thats why we single him out ;D

I admire the guy's energy and enthusiasm for comics and he's accomplished enough to justify his presence in comics and even secure his place in the history of the industry, but I don't really enjoy his art style. I've heard so many artists say something like, "geez, if this guy made it why can't I?" Ha. Professionally though I would say that Liefeld is his own worst enemy. For the talent he's managed to find and be associated with, the guy has blown so many books and opportunities with his problematic publishing ability. The guy had Alan Moore on Supreme and Mark Millar on Youngblood and he practically killed both projects with terribly bad business practices. He purchased Fighting American yet has done nothing with the character! This is a shame because he seems to work best in the capacity of being an Idea Man and a project organizer. Yet so many fall apart from... who knows? I have no idea why his publishing is so erractic.
However he's done it and whether or not any of us do or don't like it, he's done well for himself and still a working professional so that's what really counts.
At the end of the day, he's the only person about whom I've literally read McFarlane say "he's dead to me" in an article. That alone deserves some respect right I think. Ha.
As far as the anatomy cracks, they have been there from the beginning. I remember going through an issue of Youngblood with a friend and having a few laughs at bad bits of perspective and character portrayals. This being the first or second month the Image books were published and my first exposure to them. The thing is that he's never changed or progressed. He still makes really obvious goofs in his work and what I think is so frustrating to other's looking at it.

you gotta understand the reason i don't like liefeld is not because of his nauseatingly over-stylized drawing. i don't like him because of his personality. i once saw him kick a little puppy while ripping up some little kid's comic while blowing smoke in an old ladies face and burning cans of hair spray to destroy the ozone layer....
not really.

He does draw strange feet! His fighting scenes are filled of people with open mouths.
Still, compared to many recent big names (especially Ed McGuinnes), he is great.
He has a clean approach to his characters, bold lines, no distractions or so called art crap.
I think he would do good on group books. Give him a solid space opera script and he would turn it into solid gold.

Maybe if I wanted to write: When Superman Discovered He Was Half Gorilla, (OR) When Heroes Have No Eyes! Then McGuinnes would be my first choice.

If Superman has to take the ...er, um .....Schmidt!.... and somehow he could NOT drop his pants before he does. He would exactly look like how McGuinnes draws him.
McGuinnes' Batman looks like he is supressing a fart, eveytime he is supposed to be thinking. For a detctive that thinks a lot and grow fear in the heart of the lookers, that would not be a fitting image, now isn't it?

I am just glad that DC showed Liefeld door after his Titans 2 parter and said thanks, but no thanks. Now if they could only get Larsen back to draw Doom Patrol again..............
