Who picks this up?
What was your favourite arc?
(IF you say Smith's or Meltzers, then pick a Winnick!)

When I got back into comics a few years ago GA was the first thing I bought outside of Batman. I missed the start by a few months but was able to pick up all the back issues from reprints. Of course it helped that Smith was regularly several weeks late! My favourite arc? That would have to be 'The Archer's Quest' - Brad Meltzer's run. He clearly really loves Green Arrow, as can be seen from Identity Crisis. He continued the sense of fun that Smith had established in the book and the ending came as a real shock to me! It was hyped up beforehand as a shock twist and I thought yeah, whatever... but when it came I was genuinely stunned by it. I also really liked Kevin Smith's stuff. I'm really hoping for the return of Onomatopeia, but maybe he's Kevin's character and nobody else can use him.
Pick a Winnick... Oh, do I HAVE to? For a long time I wasn't taken with Winnick as a writer. The first stuff of his that I read wasn't good. I got very depressed at one point when he suddenly seemed to have taken over everything I was buying! Outsiders, GA and Batman! It particularly annoyed me when he used the same joke about Dr Phil in multiple books in the same month. I have to say he's grown on me though. Or maybe he's just got better! My favourite Winnick arc remains Straight Shooter. I just love Drakon! I want to use him in a proposal I'm putting together for DC2. I don't know if I can though, since the DC2 continuity is going to be several years behind the DCU. I also enjoyed the issues leading up to the big #50 celebration [more Drakon!], but I'm not keen on this Brick storyline. It just seems too contrived... The gangster element has been defeated then all of a sudden a new gangster with super-strength turns up. Can't help but feel we'd have heard about him before. Have the last few issues seemed a bit... dull, to anyone else? That business with Grundy and that other business with Zatanna? It seems as though the book is on hold, waiting for Infinite Crisis to happen. Maybe things will pick up now that Dr Light is back.

Green Arrow is one of my favorites. I think his supporting characters are the best. As good as the new stuff is it still doesn't hold up to Mike Grell's work.

I think they should turn this into GREEN ARROW AND BLACK LIGHTNING.... They have good chemistry, and it would work.
omigod DR LIGHT! hes freakin insane!
( I KNOW THIS IS EXTREME BUT: who is thinking he might rape Speedy and get HIV? )
there was this talk of Drakon getting HIV but that never pulled through (he got speedys blood in his shoulder, remember?) and i'm thinking Judd might pull this off...
So whenever the good guys are fighting him, they have to be careful because of his majorly powerful powers, and not to get any blood on their open wounds...

That is quite extreme. And also kind of exploitative, "Oh no... its HIVman" I don't see Winnick doing that. The last two issues have been too much silly fighting, not enough story. There are only so many panels of people shooting coloured bolts at each other you can look at before it gets dull.

Winnick has grown on me as well and I would love more team up with Black Lightening, but GA has enough support with Mia and Connor. My favorite GA of all time would have to be Denny O'Neil's stuff with GL in the seventies. The whole road trip of America thing was awesome and I would love to explore that sort of thing here in DC2. As for Winnick, I would have to agree that Straight Shooter is the best so far. Now, I've posted this idea on DC boards a couple of time's and may have all ready done it here too, not sure. But what if Dr. Light did try to rape Mia and she gave in with the idea that he might actually acquire the disease? I know it is way radical but it may be a way to stop that maniac and with Mia's past, it wouldn't be to far out of character to allow herself to be put in that situation, thinking that it could end up being the "achilles heal" that the hero's need to stop Light. Just my thoughts on the subject.
Peace

Anyone read the OYL Green Arrow? It actually wasn't half bad, IMO. Winnick was really off track before the change, but this wasn't to bad. He brought back Brick, at least, one of my personal favorites.

really? I think Brick had some great potential for being an A villian of Ollie's. Unfortunately I don't think he was written as well as he could have been.

As much as I hated the last part of Winnick's run (the title was so weak it couldn't even fill up its own 50th issue with the established characters and had to drag in whole other teams), this was enjoyable. I like the return of GA's hood, he looks cooler now. Can't wait for him to spear Deathstroke's eye...again!

wow, you were right about that. I forget who started it, but it's still going strong. Any thoughts on Green Arrow OYL so far? S P O I L E R S Not really a surprise, but Ollie is mayor of Star City, and he talked about having gay marriages in Star City. With both those facts put together, I couldn't help but think of Brian K. Vaughns Ex Machina. Also, Brick is fighting crime(and killing, which has already been stated by somone else. Sorry).

Also, it looks like Brik is back as more of a partner than nemesis...

If Brick and Ollie become partners, I think it will be more out of necessity then anything else. It appears that they have turned Brick into a vigilante of sorts (killing included), and that's not going to sit well with our green wearing Mayor.
and why do you hate him so, Ramon? He does have great potential.

ah, he just annoys me. combine thing, blockbuster, and rapper xhibit and who do you got? BRICK. he is the reason i dropped green arrow, he kept saying dog and would act all gangster, sorry but we don't need that. couldn't they have brought back some old villains like that dart guy? or hey, what about onomonopteia? i don't like this whole street thug rising up in the crime world crap. oh and didnt he get beat by the damn fire extinguishing arrow? brick sucks.

I too will admit that I did not like the Brik character. Big tough meta-human gangsta thug... just didn't sit well with me. The pay off was when Ollie took him down like a b!tch. With a fire extinguisher arrow! Now Ollie vs. Deathstroke, that's a match made in heaven. The next issue can't come quick enough!

Y'all might think that the weakest part of this book is Judd Winnick, but I still maintain that, even though he piles the social issues into his book like they'll get him an Eisner, his writing is amazingly relevant. Ollie Queen, mayor, is a story line I'm convinced had already been done, but to my surprise, not! More of a relevant successor to Kevin Smith than Brad Meltzer ever was, this book continues to be one of the best books from DC, and with art by McDaniel (some of his best art since... Ever!) it's hitting highs established by the Hester art team all those issues ago!

I love the issues that showed what happened you Green Arrow before the OYL. Just like Batman, he needed to rebuild himself and his team. The character went through a change. The character evolved passed his womanizing days and cross country adventures with Hal. He grew up.
In issue #74, it was amazing. Black Canary making an appearance. It was funny and it showed a very soft side of Green Arrow when he is talking to Dinah. I loved and I believe as long as Judd Winick is writing it, I'll be buying it.
Favorite story arc is hands down for me: Archer's Quest. Sometime people forget why these heroes truly wear their masks. The ending was a perfect ending, and perfect set up for Identity Crisis.

#75 was great... I'm not happy that the run is over. I'm not quite sure why it is... but hey, whatever.
I just hope that when it does come back McDaniel has moved on... I like his chaotic sharp-edged art, but after a while it just becomes distracting to the story.

McDaniel really grew on me this run (I keep picking up the issues cheaply a few months after they've been released) and I loved the whole Green Arrow retraining himself. If they had done that with Batman, DC would have won, instead of the whole exorcising the Bat-demons etc.
