I know this storyline has been touted as this character's "Hush", but I'm not a big fan of the "throw it all at the wall and see if it stcks" approach. A lot of these characters are really cool, with a great deal of history and depth behind them, but are getting short shift in the general melee--- the last pages of the latest issues shows you just how interesting a Lionmane arc could have been! I generally like Palmiotti and Grey, but they're playing pretty fast and loose with Hawkman's history--- I just hope they're gonna set in right in the next few issues! But there has been some neat things about this arc. Carter attacking Kendra was a heck of a twist--- especially after what almost happened between them in the hammock a few hours earlier! The battle in the streets of St Roch was epic. The number the manhawks did on Carter was brutal! Joe Bennett's art is awesome. The last page of the latest issue---!
On a completely different note, I just want to say that I think the greatest line this year in comics came from Hawkman in a recent issue of JLA: Classified. It was after Batman sucker punched him for the 10 minute mindwipe the Dark Knight has his panties in a wad over. Wiping blood from his mouth, Carter says something to him like: "Hope that was worth it, because I'm about to give you ten minutes you'll never forget!" One of the few times I've actually laughed outloud reading a comic. Classic.

The effects can't last because Carter is everywhere at once.

Great issue! Loved seeing Kendra and Satanna go at it (ahem!). It's a shame this art team is leaving, because they're one og the best in the biz! Finally, this year long storyline is wrapping up! Next issue should be nothin' but pay-off! I was a little leery of Palmiotti and Grey, but I can't fault them for a decent mystery and an action-packed storyline told at a breakneck pace. Still miss Johns, though...

Yeah, but he was back the issue before last. Was there ever any doubt? Dr. Fate had something to do with it.

I think that this has been one of the best Hawkman stories I've ever read. I have got every issue of this teams run (it only appeared on my "must have" list when Golden Eagle arrived... Dunno why...) I loved the Sook issues... And love the Bennett run... (Both these artists have worked on Buffy the Vampire Slayer books... Fun fact for ya....) And this latest issue is the one i had to read five times straight. Hawkman lays the smackdown! This is the Knightfall of Hawkman! We could nickname it "BirdFall" for heavens sake! It's amazing! I'm half expecting Charley to don somekind of armoured Thangarian HAWK ARMOUR! Prediction... Hawkman has to stop Hawkman from leaving the planet in his new ship... Maybe! But wow. If you're not reading this... STOP! Pick up every back issue of this run! And then read it ALL the way through! Palmiotti and Gray have woven a tapestry of ideas, so cliched its fantastic! Old ideas are new again! Rehash storylines and no one will notice! But when it's as FREAKING AWESOME as this, who really cares? I know i don't.

I don't think so. It's Carter in JLA and Rann/Thanagar, both of which happen after the current arc. Carter survived thanks to some shenanigans pulled by Dr. Fate (he met with him just before his last big fight with his rogues gallery and asked a favor the reader was not privvy to). Maybe he already suspected Parker.

So what happens between now and issue 50 that causes the title to change to Hawkgirl? Well, somebody proposed an interesting idea on the DCMBs, that after the Rann/Thanagar War Carter becomes the King of Thanagar! I actually have a very similar development brewing in my (delayed) Golden Age mini, The Immortal Legend of Hawkman, for the penultimate arc entitled "Mystery In Space" (running in issues 9,10,11), which, coincidentally, sets the stage for the introduction of the DC2's Modern day Hawkman.
Just wanted that down for the record in case this scenario is close to what DC has planned for the character!

Hmm... Do you suppose it's a dream, or is Carter just being marginalized (again)? Don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to Kendra having her day in the sun, and from all I've heard, Simonson and Chaykin seem to have an interesting direction they want to take the book, but whitherHawkman? I've heard rumors that he'll show up eventually in the JLoA, but why not put him back where he belongs, in the JSA? That book feels incomplete without him...

It's One Year Later... and this title has lived up to my expectations.
Admittedly, this is a set-up issue, but there is a lot going on here:
* The Mystery of Carter's Disappearance * The Spookiness of sinister past events in St Roch * The development of Danny (is there a hint of a relationship there with Kendra?) * The strange bas-relief on the wall depicting Hawkfolk * And the thriller ending!
I thought that there was some good character development with Kendra, but at the same time she is still recognizable as the same person we've known for the last 6 years or so. I'm really interested in seeing where she goes from here now that she's flying solo.
Loved the Lovecraftian atmosphere of the whole issue (especially that wall carving), and can't help but feel that we are at the beginning of a pretty cool new direction.
The art, on the other hand, was in parts fantastic (the first couple of pages) and in others... well, off (at least to my eye). There were some weird anatomical things going on, particularly facial features, that just looked, I don't know--- lopsided? I will say that I liked the style Chaykin used for this issue, and will give him the benefit of the doubt.
All in all, this new team delivered.

welcome arborhawk! There are some very intriguing mystery's happening in this title. Not a huge fan of the art, but the story, so far, makes up for it with me.

Chaykin's art is a step away from the last artist, but I wouldn't say better... Just different. Their art isn't in the same vein so...

I think I can get used to the art, as it does complement the moody, atmospheric writing that Simonson is doing--- but Chaykin does have a very particular style!
