Whoa...
Biggest thing to stand out for me is Mary Marvel possibly turning evil...
Who is that wearing the glove that says "Yo" all over?

Jimmy Olsen must die?
Looks like someone was looking at the DC2 for inspiration again!

This last issue was my favorite, to date. Best funeral I've seen in comics in a while.
Although the two rogues are probably my favorite storyline by far.
I still have some major questions that I wish they hadn't skipped over. The biggest one being *SPOILER***
how did Black Adam figure out his word he needed, and when do we get to see when that happened? I was a little disappointed in that.

I think that's coming in the new Black Adam mini... I do agree with you though, it seems like such a big thing to just skip over. The man is the most wanted man in the world.

Do they explain it you think in the 12 issue limited series dedicated to Black Adam?

I've enjoyed Countdown so far, pretty much because if of a rule i have, if Jason Todd's in it, im buying it. It's a rule that's served me pretty well, except for Nightwing's OYL arc.
I can't wait for when they start jumping to the various universes.

well if you want to get more Jason, check out The All New Atom. He's in this one and looks like the next one as well. It's one of DC's best books, out right now. Of course it's Gail, so how could it be bad.

Yeah, i was aware of that and due to my comic book buying policy i purchased it, but i've been enjoying the new Atom much before my homeboy JT appeared in it and much like a lot of you, im a huge gail fan.

My only question for this tile is:
Why is it 2.99?
It's a small increase, yes, but my inner old man is saying "comics used to be cheaper", and 52, which had a more cohesive overall plot (though it did digress or shift) and actually led to something, was 2.50.
Anyways, I'm not whining, but I'm not sure if it has to be 2.99 for the normal amount of pages in a comic and alternating plot...

I talked to my comic guy and he said that the Countdown tie ins have waned in the sales...
Is a year long series back to back too long?
What's going wrong with Countdown for sales to be down?
Just some questions I ponder when I can't sleep. lol

It's probably because
A) There's a general lack of enthusiasm for Countdown overall, and always will be as long as we keep getting those awful, awful, awful Holly Robison segments
B) There's an OBSCENE amount of tie-ins. I mean, let's think- 6 issues of Amazons Attack, 8 issues of "Countdown to Mystery", 8 issues of "Countdown to Adventure, 8 issues of "Death of the New Gods", 7 issues of "Salvation Run", 8 issues of "Lord Havok and the Extremists", 4 issues of "Countdown Arena" and that's without counting fifty-two issues of the main series PLUS all the tie ins in books like JLA, Flash etc. It's a lot of comics...

I disagree with you when you say that JLA, Flash etc are required reading... But I do agree that Salvation Run and that lot are a load of bollocks when it comes to Countdown though Adventure and Mystery aren't really Countdown books, they're in fact 52 books, aren't they? Well, the Adventure one is, half of it, anyway! And who's picking it up JUST for Forerunner? And Amazon Attacks, was that an official Countdown tie in? I know bits of it tie in with events, but I don't think it's required reading. I think that the universal tie in book is Countdown, but you don't need to buy other books to keep in-sync with it. They've made sure of that, I thought.
But then again, I only read... Fell and the Sinestro Corps stuff. My comic reading has fallen IMMENSELY.

I don't like Countdown much. I kinda like the Arena series but that's it. However I still read it... what a fool!

I disagree with you when you say that JLA, Flash etc are required reading... Flash definitely is, I think- one issue the Rogues are all hanging out, the next they're on the run for killing the Flash and then we get his funeral? I'd think that it should at least have been "duplicated" in Countdown for non-Flash readers. And I could barely follow Karate Kid's stuff early on even WITH "The Lightning Saga" in JLA/JSA! But to each his own, I guess. Well, we see a lot of footage from it and the big "Granny Goodness" reveal was there. I honestly don't think it makes much sense without tie-ins. Forerunner was a fairly big part for a while and then one issue they simply mentioned she was "displaced" and that was that. One issue we see Lord Havok battling Monarch, two issues later he commands his fleet.

Countdown, unfortunately, had to follow in the footsteps of it's big brother, 52. The second best series of 2007 (after the Sinestro Wars). In 52, nearly every story was intriguing and although they jumped around, each story had its highs and lows, but always seemed to be moving forward. Countdown, sadly, fails in that aspect. Much of it seems to meander from week to week. Holly and Harley's "training" is going no where. Jimmy has silver age powers... cool! But he's being bounced around so much, with Hadley any explanation, that I've just stopped carrying. The only story that I actually found interesting was the Rogues duo, and they blew away half that storyline. (Pun intended) Mary Marvel's is the weakest, and the one I had the highest hopes for. And I do agree that Amazon's Attack (probably DC's biggest let down for me) does have a tie in with Countdown and the New Gods, with the Granny revelation. My biggest gripe about the whole Amazon thing right now is, where the heck is the island, actually? And what is the deal with newly resurrected Queen? Why the huge personality shift? On the plus side, I have really enjoyed the relationship and character building of Kyle/Jason/Donna/ and Bob. Although it's not to be, I would actually love to see these four get their own title. I wasn't a big fan of Jason returning from the dead, but he's more interesting in this storyline then he ever has been. This, of course, is my own personal opinion and does not necessarily represent the opinions of the Editorial Staff or any of the DC2 Staff.

I agree that Countdown has tried too hard to be 52. The problem is that 52's stories all flowed evenly and nicely and almost all of Countdown's do not. It's been picking up a little, but it's still dragging enough. This weeks issue was a little shocking though and I wonder if all involved at that point are gone for good.

I stopped reading a few weeks ago... the Storylines were boring and very hard to follow.
Countdown was a waste of money to me.

All I can give this series is a WTF?!?
Who comes up with this stuff... a virus that turns people into animals...that was the great disaster?
Not when The whole universe was blown up... but a freaking virus that turned people into animals?
Did any of this whole thing have a point?

Or did they bastardize the Kamandi origin with it all? I dunnoooo... I gave up this in the high 30s. I was really disappointed. I expected more from Dini, and the art was boring. However, I loved 52 (though I think it faltered at the end--- a consistent failing of both Morrison and Johns), and I will be picking up Trinity on the strength of Busiek's name alone (despite his horrific Aquarun).

I picked up Countdown and all of the tie-in books for $120 on E bay a few weeks back...something like 80 books I think? I have been reading it for a week now and I reached week 18 this morning.
Overall it isn't the worst thing I've ever read nor is it the best. I don't keep up with the DCU on a regular basis like I used to so reading this without knowing whats going in detail made the other DCU storyline references more enjoyable. Plus since I am reading all of the issues in a shorter amount of time it is easier to follow the story much like I did with 52 last fall when I bought the entire series on e bay and read it over a weeks time.
I think spending less money has made me more tolerant to the tie-ins and maybe the overall quality of the event, but to be honest I look forward to getting into the Sinistero Corps War when I catch up on GL this spring.
