How cool was this first issue? A great story by Waid, terrific art by the master George Perez, and some really nice character moments with Batman and Green Lantern--- and Bruce and Hal--- in Vegas, no less, w/ a cameo by Roulette! I was kinda dubious about this one, but I was totally won over.
This one is now on my pull list!

couldn't agree with you more. This was the only book that I read twice this week. First time for the story, and the second to relish in the great art of Gentleman George.
It was also nice to see Bruce and Hal team up with out all the heaviness that they have had in their friendship the last few years.

hm... i KNOW i am going to be in the minority on this one but when i read it i wasnt wowed by the art... at all... I think most the time Hal looked out of place and cartoony and the coloring in it was soo off in my opinion that I honestly couldnt really get past it.

I know what you're talking about--- I definately think there was an old-school, retro feel to this issue, but to the contrary, I rather liked it. To me it was just a fun comic!

i like the retro feel when its handled right. there are no cheesy modern computer effects on darwyn cookes art because it doesnt lend itself to it, neither does perez's. it seems awkward. back when there were only flats and minimal work adjusting value the art was done so that it looked good with what they colored it with but today whoever colors that stuff goes crazy on special effects and it ruins it to me. it can be done right but a lot of the time when people color older artists work it doesnt feel like it should be done with that style.

I'm still finding this book to be in my top ten. This issue was probably the best so far. Waid really has a great grip on the voices of Wally and Linda. And he did pretty darn well with the Doom Patrol as well.
