Ummm...
So.
Interesting. The story was decent. Interested to see where it goes from here. Almost seems like the Guardians plan on leaving again & letting Kyle run the show. But what's with Kyle anyway? He's doing an awful lot of whining... and apparently has absolutely no control over his powers.
And what the $@&% is up with the art? Good lord! The last panel in the book alone is one of the worst piles 'o' crap I've seen in ages! This sentiment was expressed to me by some of DC's other creators at Wizard World... which caught me off guard, but now that I've seen it, I understand.
Anyone else?

personally i like the art for some reason. it was different and looked cool to me. I thought the story was ummm... interesting... since when did kyle paint, he was a cartoonist before. why is oberon his art teacher? why is there a mute chick brought in for no apparent reason? why is he even on earth in the first place? all this and a few other things I hope are answered either in here or 52. i don't think the gaurdians are gonna take off, but this new torch bearer title is a bit confusing. it seems like when he gets mad, "hulks up" if you will, he gets like out of control or something.

The art was awful. The story was nothing special. I was eagerly awaiting this ever since it was announced...a big disappointment. If it continues like this for the enxt eleven issues, I'm not sure I will be able to cope.

I am going to take that as a "i really liked it" would that be appropriate?

I bought this issue, but I gotta tell ya, there was nothing here that interested me at all (No, not even the Thanagarian bounty hunter). And I don't dislike Kyle! I think the idea of the Torch Bearer is neat (and the whole evolutionary thing they're setting up), but even Recharge (which also left me kinda cold) had a zippier beginning. I require zip. I'm American. I have a perilously short span of attention.

I read this yesterday and although I didn't like the art at all, the story didn't bother me to much. We have a lot of questions and a few mysterys, but we seem to be getting that with every title that's OYL.
Personally, I'll take this and Checkmate over what's going on in Battle of Bludhaven. That is one huge disappointment, in my opinion.

Agreed... I couldn't make it through issue one of BFB. Just blah...

I didn't find anything too special, but I haven't beem keeping track of Kyle since his GL book ended. I guess I should have at least checked the boards to see what happened in th Rann/Thanagar series, but I never did, and therefore I didn't know what was really going on and how he changed into Ion.
By the way, what happened in BFB? It sounds like it's pretty bad.

Ugh...it was shockingly bad. Random, unexplained, unknown characters jumped in and out at the strangest times. Everyone seeemd to have the same personality and motive...there was no individuality. Things just happened without an explanation. IMO, the worst OYL book yet.
Re-reading Ion, it wasn't actually too bad. It was actually quite good, the second time around, although the art hasn't grown on me yet.

I LOVE it. The art was better than I hoped for and the story was really great. And with next month's art getting so much better it is a title I'm really looking forward to.

I know that Ramon likes the art, but this is defintely the main turn off with this book for me. I mean, the storytelling might be sound (I dropped it after #1, Kyle may all be your homeboy, but mines Guy or John...) but I can't be reading a book that's art makes me weep inside. If someone could bring me up to speed, I'd appreciate it immensely!

but the art got much better during the first 3 issues. There was a new inker (in #1 Greg inked himself) Is anybody but Ramon and me reading the book?

No, I'm reading it as well. It's been okay, some stuff I've really liked and some has been meh, for me. The Guardian stuff (52) and the Monitor storyline is what has kept me collecting this.

This is actually one of my favorite titles every month mainly because it's not bogged down with continuity (with the exception of the Monitor/Guardian stuff that fits in pretty well) and doesn't have unneccesary splash pages throughout the book. It's just a solid superhero story that's consistantly good. I especially enjoyed #8, it just showed how well this could work as an ongoing. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I'm getting this title, too, but I was just about to give it up (sorry, Ramon, but the art hasn't been my cuppa, either)---- but this latest issue hooked me! Can't wait to see where DC is going with the Monitors.

the latest issue (#8 ? ) was the weakest by now. I didn't like the art, the story was weak. The only things I liked were the monitors at the beginning and the Tangent GL staff at the end.

I really thought someone would have mentioned the end of this mini series. Personally, I liked the way they ended the book. Obviously both Kyle and Donna are going to become very important parts to the upcoming events. Although it ended on a real tragic note, I thought it was done well.

it just left me underwhelmed. it was like they were rushed to the ending because of the twelve issue limit and marz didn't think that through beforehand or something. i dunno, i liked the series all together but i just hoped for something bigger.
oh and the fill in artist drew kyle creepy as all hell sometimes and not the times when it warranted him being creepy as hell.

Overall, I thought the book redeemed itself as it went on.
I think Krayven was delt with hastily... I mean, good grief he's Darkseid's brood! I can't wait to see where Kyle goes from here though! Let the Countdown commence!!!
