We've been raiding the Redbox for all the DC related videos. The latest on our watch was Superman/Shazam The Return of Black Adam. The artwork on these short movies was incredible and the stories were fantastic. The Spectre episode was too scary for my kids to watch. I'm not a Green Arrow fan, and that episode was still great and showed me how Green Arrow can be an interesting character. The Jonah Hex was almost as good as DC2's Jonah Hex. What did everyone else think? Images used without permission.

I picked it up a couple of months back, and I liked all the shorts. Wasn't sure how good the main Shazam one was going to be, but I was pleasantly surprised. It managed to fold in a lot of classic elements without making it hokey. Deserves a sequel. I'd already seen the Jonah Hex one from the "Under the Red Hood" DVD, and I agree that it was done very well (it's a loose adaptation of an issue from the recent Gray&Palmiotti run). A lot of guys on the other Hex boards have been saying that THIS is how the movie should have been, so maybe we'll get lucky and they'll do more. Spectre is definitely too scary for little ones! The grainy camera work fit the '70s John Carpenter vibe they were going for, but it was annoying in places. Green Arrow was a great piece, though it feels like it's part of a larger story (not bad if you're a fan, but not good for a newbie). I was floored by the Vertigo/Canary fight...awesome counterattack! The comics should filch that. Also, if you haven't checked out the bonus cartoons included from JLU and other series, give 'em a whirl. The Spectre one from Brave and the Bold should be fine for the kiddies. All in all, I hope they keep doing more of these shorts and putting them on thse compilation DVDs. The short length can be detrimental to the stories you tell, but it also offers more variety. Keep 'em coming, DC!
