How typical. The friend makes the right choice but dies anyway.
I wonder how long it's gonna be before Virgil's dad figures it out......

First of all I have to give props to John for gettin the issue edited in time despite the fact I got the issue to you at the last minute. Mischief and Ramon also for another great cover.
Sorry. I needed an intro for Hotstreak to show that he is ready to kill and set up the fact that the Heat was looking to kill The Bangers and Virgil. I figured this would be a good transition from this issue.
Well he's definately going to be asking questions next issue! Bruises and burn marks might be kind of hard to hide...

Well, I could just be naturally distrustful, but I found Jimmy's saying he'd turn his life around hard to swallow (when I first read it, I assumed he was lying and just thought Static was being really gullible believing him). However, that possible quibble aside, I thought it was another good issue, and liked the handling of the Jefferson/Virgil scenes in particular.

I really enjoyed this.. a lot! I found the characterizations to be much more solid then the first issue, and the street level grittiness to it was perfect. Can't wait for the next issue.

Thanks! Characterization is what I try my hardest on so I'm glad that you think it's improving.
As for Jimmy turning around so quickly, I think he just needed someone to open his eyes. Virgil mentions that his friends didn't have people like his mom and dad to tell them specifically right from wrong and steer them in the right direction when they stray from doing good. These characters aren't bad people, they've been in bad situations all their life. Being poor made them oppuritunists, so when they got powers they saw it as a chance to get what they deserve, and Jimmy was just blinded by this power that he's never had.

Pretty good, your setting this up nicely. I'm curious though, are Ebon and Rubberband Man going to make any appearances?

I like it. Good characters and it sets up well for the rest of the issues. I'm actually hoping to see more of Static after the series ends. Keep it up!

Not in the mini, but...
I've got a bunch of plans for a Static ongoing, so if I'm allowed to do that (I haven't even talked to Mark about it yet so I'm not promising anything) I'll most likely introduce those two. And even if the ongoing doesn't happen, Static will be appearing on a new team book that I'll be writing early/mid 2008, so he's not going anywhere.

Interesting how you included the shootings in New York into the story. That to me was the hook that got into the story. Virgil's commitment to his friends is great. I can see the clash in ideas between Jefferson and Virgil. The introduction of Hotstreak at the end was awesome. This story has definitely captured my imagination and more. The story setting and the characters involved in it are completely captivating. Thank you all that are involved in getting this story out to us. Thanks to Ramon for once again providing his excellent coloring talents to my art, making it the masterpiece that you see. Just wait for next month's cover. It may burn ya??? (Yeah I know that was corny) The Cornball 'Chief

I liked the first issue better, but this was still pretty good. A bit naive of Static to think that he could just talk his friends into walking to straight and narrow when they're already going out and abusing their new powers. But he is a kid, mistakes will be made, so it's a good thing Black Lightning's there to help him along.

I wouldn't call it a mistake. It may be a different way of looking at the problem, more focused on helping than punishing, but I don't think he is wrong to do that. Black Lightning and Static both have differing views on how to fight crime. I wanted to make this relationship less teacher and student like Batman and Robin who are both fighting for the same basic thing and more like two opinions that are both right in their own way. Virgil may be less experienced in life, and he will learn some stuff from BL, but he is a different hero and his views aren't going to be changed.

In my own personal life, just having a friend being their for you like Virgil was for his friend can actually make a difference than putting a person in jail.
Just my two cent.
