There was a lot of potential here for some amazing stuff, though it didn't quite reach that peak I was expecting. We get a lot of set up, the board is cleared and built up again (and I have to admit, I'm excited about Midway City's new incarnation) and we get a good impression of Ted Kord (though I was bummed he had to be rescued in the first issue of his own ongoing). And then there was that major development dealing with his dual identity, and not only that but we get to see some action with him fighting Father of the Nuclear Family? An interesting villain choice indeed!
This is some of the sharpest written stuff you've delivered in a long time Chris (and I'm not just saying that because you've not been on site for a long time). Having seen a first draft of this before Dave's edits (and there are very few!), I have to admit you've got your story structure down to a pat, and I can see the potential for improvement in a lot of places, but there just needs to be a bit more focus on characters, as opposed to the quick scene-to-scene movement you were using to progress the story!

Not sure I like the Reach for a Ted Kord story. Still, I guess I'm willing to see where you take this. I'll probably have a better idea if I like where you're taking the DC2 incarnation of BB after your next issue. Interesting to see who you decided to pick as Peacemaker. Perhaps most intriguing was your mention of Sparky/Spunky? So does that mean you are planning on using the rest of Dan Garret's supporting cast and or rogues gallery? Even Gabby?

Thanks for the feedback! Iplan to use all sorts of characters from every part of he BB mythos from Dan Garret's time to the present so you never know who will show up.

Oh Yes! The Blue Beetle is back and better then ever! The interview scene was great, and definately surprising, it was the last scene that really took me by surprise and sent me shouting an OH YEAH!!!
The idea of the Reach is cool and I really liked it, but it was Peacemaker that was the best moment for me.
Excellent cover as well. I'm really glad your back Chris and I can't think of anyone better suited to write Ted. I hope Blue Beetle has a long and popular run under your guiding hands. 5 stars.

Hey thanks a lot Brian. It was a long time coming. This was supposed to be done probably two years ago at this point. So thanks for hanging in there and waiting it out.

Good to see the Beetle back in action. As a #1, there's a lot of set-up exposition that needs to be done, and that was handled well here. There were a few unexpected twists to keep things interesting as well. Be interesting to see how Ted handles his "out" status and how it affects his life.
One thing I missed though was the sense of humor that Ted possesses and was untilized in his original miniseries. I hope you let the Beetle bring the funny again.
Good start to this (long overdue) ongoing.

Hey thanks for reading batarang. Ted's sense of humor will be intact, he just has to find himself in a funny situation now.
