What a great issue! I love the friendship between Saunders and his German buddy. Excellent characterization there and an awesome plot. Faraday is fun in this, and still a refreshing change from the Faraday of now. The mystery, the intrigue, and the time period that this is all set in makes this a 5 star grand slam. Oh, and I'd throw in an extra one for Vampire's. I LOVE vampires.

Still continuing to enjoy this series. you seem to have done your research into the time period. But then again I know little of the thirties except from what I've seen in old movies. I do have a couple of minor story points. You're use of Midnight is probably too early if I recall my Hero History correctly. Although I realise it is a new continuity as witness General Glory being active in WWI. Still, I might have gone for the Clock over Midnight. ALso, at this time most American's still considered Hitler and the Nazi's buffoons. Or is that one of the mysteries your building up; why is Midnight such an avid anti Nazi?
I don't know anything about the golden age Adventurer's Club other than there was a strip by this name. It does strike me, however, that this name would suit our stalwarts to a T should they decide to join forces.
Since it is a new continuity is there any chance Zoot Sputnick is real in the deuce universe and not just a fictional character from the Mazingman comicbooks?

I chose Midnight because I liked Midnight. I liked his earlier stories when I went searching for them after his fun debut in All-Star Squadron. The Clock is not someone I'm so interested in. Besides, Midnight is likely to have a few more people who know him and being the blatant Spirit rip off he is will also help familiarity and interest in who he is.
Doubt you'll see Zoot Sputnik. I never got into 'Mazing Man, so know little about him and have little interest in him.
Why is Midnight so anti-Nazi? Maybe there's a secret to it. Maybe he's just a little more up-to-date through is radio contacts. Speed is anti-Nazi because he's encountered them overseas in his exploits.
As for a name for our stalwarts (as you refer to them) there will be a central organizing entity coming into existence in time in the strip, but we're not going to be seeing a team book (per se...the closest analogy would be the Defenders over in Marvel, as a non-team), and the name of the organization is closer in nature to the title of the book than Adventurers' Club.
Thanks for your interest, and I hope you enjoy what's to come.
Take care Don

I love vampires too.
"Adventrous fun." That's exactly what it's supposed to be.
Wonder how long it will be before Faraday meets up with the others...

I really enjoyed the tone in this issue. I'm not of the age where I can truly be truthful when I proclaim something has a "pulpy" feel, as I've not really experienced that kind of genre, but if I had to take a wild guess, from the tone of this series, and the amazingly fun banter that reminds me of the stories I used to read in the Eagle, Hotspur, Battle and Action! annuals I used to collect. I remember whole summer holidays where my father and I would travel to bookshops and search for tomes we didn't own yet, and Danger Trail always reminds me of that. Whoa, I went off on one there. Like I said, I enjoyed the banter, and the "fawning" comment near the start made me literally chuckle, and the dialogue between Faraday (who's actually cool in this?! HE FOUGHT WITH A SWORD!!!) and Bennett was equally fun and dynamic. I'll be back next time, eventually ( ) to catch up with the Blood and Dragon Affair, ("Crud." was another favourite, lol), especially after that awesome cliff hanger with Faraday being pulled out the window by the dying vampire, which I thought was very cinematic and cool. I really can't help but tell anyone who reads this to READ DANGER TRAIL, goshdurnit!!!

Wow, this was really something. I wasn't planning on reading Danger Trail, as I didn't have major interest in the characters appearing in it. But Don and I have been chatting on the side, so I finally sat down and read #1 and 2. To quote Speed: "Crud." I amost missed this stuff! Good pace, wonderful characterization (though Midnight came off a little stiff), and an intriguing msytery to tie it all together. It's interesting to see Von Hammer outside of "the killer skies"...I love how this guy acts! Faraday is indeed cool, much more so than I've seen in his current DEO version (sorry, Charlie!), and Speed is just plain fun. Looking forward to more.

Thanks a lot, Charlie, and to you, Susan. I'm glad you both enjoyed, and I'm glad you both think the characters are fun to read, because they sure are fun to write. I look forward to the reaction from my readers when they see the slam-bang conclusion to this story and to the characters who will be popping their heads up in the next story, "The Verdant Darkness Affair". Take care Don

Going through some backissues (in preparation for an upcoming Pull List Spotlight Discussion), and I have finally gotten back to this series. After reading this issue (and re-reading the first), I am sorry I've been missing it for so long!
This is some first rate, pulp-style adventure with a cast of recognizable DC characters, fun to see in action. The story is unconvoluted but cleverly plotted, and is coming together quite nicely as friends and foes converge on San Francisco (from exotic points elsewhere). Speed stands out as a favorite, but Bennet, Faraday and Hans Von Hammer (love him here!) could possibly carry books of their own--- the jury is out on Midnight, but I get the feeling that next issue, I will be a convert!
Great job! Everyone read this immediately!

Thanks for reading, Dave, and glad you're enjoying the ride. There's quite the road ahead for our cast of characters. Speed does stick out, and his relationship with Hans makes for a classic 'odd couple on the road' for certain. I hope to win you to Midnight's side in short order, but I have to admit, some of his greatest scenes don't crop up until the second half of year one.
Hope to see you stick around, and here's hoping to win some more converts as well.
Take care Don
