Woof. Nice wrap up, nice everything, even. Danger Trail has to be one of the most underrated books on the site, and I think that if everyone wants to read some good old fashioned pulp fiction, they should give this book a shot!
I gotta ask though... Where's the cover?

Whew! What an ending =D The twist about Morgue was really fantastic, i laughed out loud when i read it just because of how cool it was. As always, your tone is perfect for the type of story you're telling, and all of your characters shine with their own particular spotlight. Still love Speed, and the little scene with them coming back tired was a great touch. I agree, everybody should be checking this out!

Yeah, I was pretty happy with how this issue turned out. Lots of solid action and some answers and some more questions. Glad you enjoyed it.
Next month, we get back to a sub-plot that's been bubbling up since the beginning of the series, with books and vampires and certain immortal masterminds...and a very special guest star!
Take care Don

Perfect ending to this story and the revelation of Rue was excellent. Rarely does my jaw actually drop, but Don made it happen with this revelation.
Oh Harriett, what kind of family do you have?!?! I loved the ending to this.
I agree with mockingbird that Speed is a great character, but I really love Argent and Michael.
Any chance that we will be seeing even more of Faraday in the near future? He seems to be a bit more on the sidelines since the first story arc.
This is not only an underrated book, but a highly under appreciated one. Like Suicide Squad, I look forward to this every month, and I always make sure to check out the solicits to see what is coming up next... cause I just can't wait!
Great job!

Thanks for the cover, Claw. Good moody work, I like the parallel splashes of "red tie" on each of the men in that cover. Well done.
Brian, thanks for the kind words. My jaw dropped too, when I first came up with the idea of who Rue Morgue would be when plotting this story out, and I'm glad to see it did it for others too. You worry this will be one of those things you personally think is cool and will ultimately prove lame or laughable to readers. Glad to see it stayed cool.
Alas, poor Harriet. What is she up to, what are her secrets, and who else might she be connected to thanks to her Irish mob roots? You'll have to keep coming back to find out, of course. I'm glad you say the ending worked for you, Brian. Mark mentioned in editing this that he was concerned it fell flat, and I wasn't absolutely sure how well it came across. Nice to hear good words on it.
Faraday and Midnight have been central figures for the first three story arcs actually, so King's been front and center until now. Speed's gotten a bit of a backseat, even in this story where he gets to help save the day in the second part. But never fear, our favorite secret agent takes his place front and center in the next story arc, and are they ever going to need him in the role when you learn who our heroes have to face.
So see you in Danger Trail #10!
Take care Don

I'll admit, I dropped off the Danger Trail for a bit (jungle intrigue just wasn't doing it for me), but the last 2 covers caught my eye, so I decided to take a peek once more.
Boy, did I miss a lot! "The West Formula"?!? Eeegh, "Re-Animator" always creeps me out, but it makes a lovely plot device when you want to bring back dead gangsters. Great interaction all around, and Speed...I love reading about Speed more than any of the others. He's just too much fun!

Glad I made your day. If you can take a bit of critique, Claw, while your style is still kind of raw, your use of color and layout is what caught my attention most -- at thumbnail size, those splashes of red on stark white really draw your eye. Also, I don't know if it was your decision or not, but I like the fine script for the title, it compliments the color palette well. As somebody who dropped out of art school, I appreciate the hard work you and everyone else in the Art Dept. puts into this site. You guys put faces on the voices for us writers, and you make us look that much better by doing it.

Calling your style raw is a critique, yes: it's not noticeable in a thumbnail, but the full-size vesion lacks a lot of the polish in the figures that you see in other art on the site. More of a beginner's work than someone who's been slaving over a bristol board for years. You just need to sharpen your skills, that's all. And the "fine script" comment is referring to that handwriting-like font being used on the title -- looks like somebody just wrote it out instead of just slapping a blocky type-style on there -- I don't know what it's actually called, so I said "fine script". Please keep in mind that my own style rarely progresses past cartoonish, so I don't have a lot of room to talk.

Great conclusion to "The Nation of Murder Affair"! I never saw the twist coming, as to Rue Morgue's identity, but it makes sense--- and again we see the insidious presence of the West Formula!
Oh, Harriet! You were just too good to be true! Here's hoping you can keep your hands clean, and not break Speed's heart (but then, you know what the Bard said about the course of true love...)
Great to see the continuing quest of Hans Von Hammer! Some subtle and cryptic work going on here, and it made me realize how much I've missed the hammer from Hell in this book.
Great wrap-up of the main story, and tantalizing glimpses of the biger stories brewing behind the scenes! Five stars!

Yeah, the secrets behind Harriet are just going to get bigger and bigger. Can she be saved, is she too far gone...and you haven't even seen what happens to her at year's end! Harriet and Speed's story is definitely one of the core elements of the title, and writing it is fun and heart-wrenching all at once.
And if you're liking the presence of the Enemy Ace, then get ready, because he's got a role in the year end arc "The Stolen Myth Affair" as well as a peak into the tale that would have started this all in "Savage Tales" in what became the Danger Trail Annual, and then after that, we've got him coming up in a couple of very interesting stories, not the least of which sets up a crossover...yeah, a crossover, one I'm keeping close to the vest right now. And you'll get to see him and Balloon Buster having fun in Castle Falkenstein!
Take care Don
