It's been a long and winding Danger Trail but it looks like all roads lead to London. As always an excellent job. About the only major adventurer missing the scene is the DC2 version of Cave Carson who was active during this time period according to several early issues of JSA related books. Hmm, if you're going to do flashbacks to Times Past you're leaving the door open for such guest stars as Henri Duval and Rosa among others.

right away, the cover gave me a few nice giggles. I'm not competely convinced it wasn't a little off from the mood of the issue, but it was still a good job and fun to look around That opening scene gave me shivers The mood and the tension and betrayal and it's all so fantastically told. We're getting closer and closer to something huge and i can't wait to see what you have in store for us at the end of this part of the ride! Harriet was fantastic in the fight, that was so fun to see. And Midnight was a joy to read. One of your greatest strengths as a writer is getting into the mood of a specific past time period, like i keep saying, and Danger Trail just shows that off beautifuly.

Midnight! Hippolyta! Greatness, loved the cover This issue did not disappoint after the previous installment. I'm right with Sam at that first scene, you're just... You're amazing at this kind of stuff. a2uton is right, the whole "Times Past" feel to this series just makes it, completely, and I want to see some old faces (Cave Carson! That would be awesome! Or some really out there WW2 heroes? Ala what James Robinson did in his Shade Times Past ) continue to join the book. And we get an Annual this month too? Count me in... Loving where this is going.

Can't disagree with anyone's assessment of the first chapter of this tale. Goosebumps. Pure goosebumps.
Tightly written with only one small complaint. It did seem a bit short. However, you did leave me wanting a LOT more.
Rima, Hippolyta and Faraday seemed to be the three that really shined for me here. (although huge applause to Harriett and her nick of time appearance!). The Queen's reaction to King was perfect.
And I have to admit that Savage's connection to the Danger Trail has got me waiting for next Wednesday, anxiously. The Annual will be the first read of the week. Guarenteed.
Also, what a cover!!! I grinned ear to ear with the cool, classic look that Claw gave. This is really grade A work from cover to the "Don't stop now!" ending.
5 stars!

Thanks a lot, everyone. I was worried, this was a tough issue to put out (as a week's delay and my editor can attest). I rewrote large sections, rearranged scenes, and in general, had to slug it out with this issue to get it written. Nice to see it came together in the end. The opening scene was a hit? Awesome. I was a it worried that it would come off with the right voice and effect. I was also worried I was being too obvious with "Alan Andal" but that's the history buff in me. LOL For the record, a couple of scenes actually got cut from this issue because I was worried it was running too long. 7100 words, 13 pages, so if it seemed to short, Brian, it was because you really did just seem to enjoy it that much. ;D New characters being added to the cast? It's already pretty large, but we'll see who else can get mixed in. I'll have to look into this Carson fella And other WW2 heroes huh? Well, if people have checked out DC2 Showcase #2, they'll know Lee Travis is on his way, how's that for a start? And the Annual is going to give a lot of insight into Vandal Savage's plots and plans and behaviors, as well as an understanding of the Danger Trail and its functions, purpose and origins. And how they relate to each other...lots of answers coming up, followed by lots of action, so I'm glad you're all buckled in for the ride. Again, thanks a lot for the great compliments, and thanks to Claw for a wonderfully stylistic cover, and I hope I can live up to expectations. Take care Don

After the brilliant, slam-bang opening issue of what promises to be the Danger Trail epic arc, I was a little worried that the next issue wouldn't measure up (how could it?), but I should have known better! The tension continues to rachet up, and we are getting a sense (with Vandal Savage's involvement) that the stakes have never been higher. He's mentioned in such tones of dread and hate these last few issues that when he finally makes an appearance at the end, it's a little like Darth Vader on the scene. I am loving the historical flashbacks, and my hackles were raised with the name of Alan Andal, and it's connections to Moorish Spain and the barbarian invasions. Faraday had my second favorite line of the issue: "Queen of the... Where the hell do I find these people?" Laughed outloud. This character has such a particular voice, and dialogue like that rings true. I continue to love his arc, on the trail of Project M! And what strange bedfellows he and Rowan make! Speed and the gang fighting a vampire on the Graf Zeppelin was a fun, high pulp-adventure scene of the first water. So tell me, Don, how hard was it to refrain from having one of your characters utter the immortal line "No ticket." ;D? Looks like we may be in for a reunion next issue, with the Enemy Ace and Bennett waiting for Midnight, Speed and his cohorts in London, not to mention Faraday, Rima and Hippolyta steaming that way after Savage (and Richard Occult)! Man, what a cast of characters ! As good as this issue was, however, the best scene was saved for last. The reveal of Occult and Savage's deadly little game was cool, but not as cool as my favorite line and moment of the issue, when Vandal says: "... Because to walk the Danger Trail is to follow in my footsteps." What a badass thing to say! I got goosebumps. Five stars! Bring on the Annual!

Great to hear! There's nothing trickier than the middle part(s) of a story arc, that's for sure. That balance between moving the story forward, maintaining the pace and yet not keeping the climax away by using padding to fill the empty spaces. Always a narrow line to balance upon. Vandal Savage should be mentioned with fear and dread, and hatred, by those aware of him. He's just too dangerous not to treat with respect, even if you're his enemy, and after all that playing up about him, I took a long time making sure that final scene got all the power and majesty his appearance should involve. It was great coming up with a pseudonym for Vandal Savage that really fit the culture and period, glad you enjoyed it. Yeah, this guy, he's gotten around, hasn't he? I can't tell you how happy I am to see how well people have reacted to Faraday in this series. He's gotten some tough usage in the modern day, but to me, he's the DC James Bond, and should get some spotlight time to show that, yeah he's a bastard...but he's our bastard, fighting for us. I really do aim for the Daniel Craig feel to his fights and action and performance in general for this series, which helps me to come up with lines like you mention, since even for Bond, such things would be so out of his realm of experience, but ultimately, he's the kind of guy who just goes with the flow. Faraday, riding with Rowan, Hippolyta and Rima...yeah, there's a grouping. I skipped the Indy reference in this issue, but it does pop up very obviously in #13. The fight in the zeppelin was my attempt to get just pure, fun pulp into the story. It was there just to tickle my fancy, glad it tickled yours too. I love the untapped (and sometimes partly tapped) wealth of characters I get to play with in Danger Trail. It really is like the Seventies-Eighties run of Defenders with the DCU's crime- and golden-age characters. Anyone could show up, as you'll see in greater evidence in the Annual. That line of dialog from Vandal was the overriding goal of the first year of the series, it's what helped me gel the concept from the start. The annual reveals what that line means fully, but I'm so glad it had the impact it was meant to. Thanks for the kind words and can't wait to see your reaction to the annual and then the conclusion. Take care Don
