The Moon
“Shadowstorm?” Power Girl furrowed her brow in confusion as she struggled against the influence of the black diamond she carried, and from the hypnotic eyes of the being that stood in front of her. He had a cold stark beauty and seemed to be made of cold flame.
“We are the precursor for His Eminence. Entire worlds will be cloaked in shadow and the Eternal Eclipse will begin.” He stretched out a shadowy, insubstantial hand and beckoned. “Come Karen, wouldn’t you like to know who you really are?”
The diamond began to hum and burn in her hand. She could hear a voice whispering. A silky, soothing voice. Whispering of power, of truth and of forbidden desires.
“Accept it, accept us and you will be more powerful than you ever imagined.” He reached out and caressed her face. He leaned forward and his shadowy lips brushed against hers.
He had nearly had her. She had been about to give in but the kiss reminded her of jerks like Booster Gold who presumed liberties they had no right taking.
And it reminded her that she was a superhero.
Shadowstorm was flung across the craggy satellite from the force of Karen’s punch. The black diamond hit him square in the face. He rose and saw her walking towards him.
“Don’t ever touch me.”

New Genesis
A blue-gloved fist slammed down on the ornate table, smashing it to pieces. The table was the most recent victim of the Lord of New Genesis, Highfather Orion, more commonly known as the Dog of War. Scott Free raised an eyebrow as he beheld his dark cousin’s wrath.
“Tyr’s Blood, Orion! Leave the tables alone. We should be focusing on our plan of action.” exclaimed the exasperated former Captain of the Female Furies, Big Barda. “I highly doubt it was the tables that conspired to release the Prince of Darkness. Would you like me to bring you another throne so you can smash that one as well?”
The red-suited New God turned towards her with a murderous gleam in his eye. Seeing the way things were escalating, Scott Free decided to interfere.
“Cousin, it matters not who set him free; we must focus on recapturing him and placing him back in Hel. We should determine where he plans to strike—.”
There was a loud boom as reality was ripped asunder and a portal opened in the midst of the assembled New Gods.
The Keeper of Knowledge, Metron the God of Secrets, had arrived.
“He has gone to Earth.” intoned the New God.
The Gods looked at each other in fear. If the Prince of Darkness managed to posses any of the heroes of Earth, there would be trouble.
Scott Free stepped forward: “The avatars of the Lords of Chaos and Order have been awakened on Earth. Surely they can help turn the tide against the Lord of Shadows.” The normally impassive face of Metron took on a look of annoyance.
“Do you know nothing of the Book of Fate? The Lords of Order and Chaos constantly choose those doomed with opposing destinies to be their Avatars on Earth. Even their fabled twins will be of little aid in the coming darkness. Romulus is destined to slay Remus when they are both needed most.” stated Metron, in his characteristic monotone voice.
“Then we need to tell them their history and the curse that surrounds them. Something must be done.”
Orion turned away from the council and spoke softly: “This meeting is adjourned. Scott, head to Earth and speak to the twins and rally the heroes of Earth. Barda, remain behind.”
Scott looked at Barda questioningly, but opened a Boom Tube and left nonetheless.
“I will try to determine exactly how he was freed from his prison.” with that parting statement, Metron teleported away.

Barda and Orion remained alone.
”Why are you sending Scott on a fool’s errand. You know as well as I that Romulus is destined to slay Remus. He cannot change destiny.” said Barda, as she stalked angrily around the room. She continued to storm about and shout curses, not even realizing that her intended audience was only half-listening.
Orion sat brooding on his throne. He had lost the kingdom of Apokolips to civil war and internal strife. He was changed from his experiences as ruler of Apokolips and New Genesis. He had an inkling of what it might require to stop the coming darkness, but there must be another way.
He sighed and stood.
“Barda, the time has come for the New Gods to ride to their deaths. Ragnarok has finally come for us. Summon Fastbak, Lonar, Drax, Magnar, and Forager. We must prepare a force that will strike down all those under the thrall of the Devourer of Light. All those possessing one of the Tears of Hel shall be put to the sword. Even the Kryptonian will fear our wrath if his soul is taken.”
Barda nodded and left the chamber, leaving the taciturn Orion to ponder the consequences of his actions.

Elsewhere
Metron sat on his Mobius Chair at the Infinity Crossroads holding a black diamond.
For millennia the denizens of Apokolips and New Genesis, distrusted the neutral god. He took no part in their minor squabbles and focused on his pursuit of knowledge.
Izaya and Darkseid had both been afraid of what would happen if his quest for knowledge turned deadly.
How right they were.
It was he who had released the Prince of Destruction from his millennia long-slumber. It was he who placed the Tear of Hel where the human scientist could find it. He had manipulated affairs so that everything had led up to this point.
He raised the diamond over his head and shouted: “Let the rivers turn black as Darkseid’s heart. Let the suns be forever eclipsed by his might: the might of Eclipso!”
On Earth, dozens of beings, each holding a black diamond, felt a surge of power.
The eternal eclipse had begun…
