The insight into Bullock and Gordon was really interesting! Firefly was awesome, a real threat, and at last, some action in the Batbooks Oh, that other story? It was fine.

Taken as a whole, this was easily my favorite single issue of the entire DC2 bat-line so far. We got a good Batman detective story, with the appearance of a major (actually two) villain and many references to classic Gotham crime bosses. Many future plots can be spun from this story.
The second story gave us a glimpse into the life of Bruce Wayne, also bringing in characters I had hoped to see in the bat-titles for some time. This particular tale was heavy on characterization, from Bruce to Alfred to Dick, and even though there was but a cameo appearance from the bat(s) I was totally engrossed. Bruce especially needs this kind of treatment.
The third tale was more brief but also strong on developing the characters of Gotham's finest. It's good to see Gordon take the spotlight and we get to see what makes him tick. And Bullock is effective as the anti-Gordon.
Overall kudos all around for an absolutely brilliant issue. If this is where the bat-titles are headed it looks like the next year will be the year of the bat.

Don't be so polite and modest Brian.
Brian wrote more than the majority of this story and did so superbly. I love the way we gwt both sides of the conversation between Jim and Bullock. Well done Brian.
Charlie, great job. You have some very nice character drivenn stuff in there and also as with Jim and Bullock I enjoyed the way you did this with both sides of the converasation and showing Vicki and Bruce's thoughts through out it.
Bat books are gonna do some rocking this year and really its thanks to these two guys and our fearless new editor Romans Empire.

Darn good stuff. Loved the split cover -- who came up with that idea -- along with the split stories. The Firefly tale played out well, introducing all sorts of new faces to the DC2 (wonder what's in store for this Harvey Dent fella? ;D ), and Charlie's story, while it bounced around, was amusing -- for once, Dick gets to act like the drunk fop! -- and I had forgotten all about Vicki knowing "the secret", though you found a great way to remind me. Fine job, people. Let's do it again next year.

Awesome stories all around! I love the Alfred/Bruce exchange in the first one. "you do that" The dinner party was great! Way to go Bruce! Rose needs to be in some peril in a future story and just as MM is about to swoop in and save her Batman whispers something in his ear and he turns and walks away! Not really no, but it would be cool! I loved the insights into Gordon and Bullock. They're real characters, not just plot devices. Great job all around!

thanks Susan and Roy! I'm glad you enjoyed everything. Hope you stay for what is going to be one heck of an interesting year for Bruce and company. Big stories, big changes, big money... no wammies! Sorry, slipped into game show mode for a second.

I can't go without mentioning what a true pleasure it is being involved on the Bat books with Brian, Chris, and Charlie. (as well as some of the others that have helped out in the 'Batcave') Also, isn't that one helluva cool cover brought to you by the super cool Batbooks ongoing art team of Adam and Ramon? Anyone notice Bruce's tie or maybe how kickass Firefly looks? This annual shows that they have exciting plans for not only Batman but also Bruce Wayne and the residents of Gotham. Batman & Tec will run parallel with each other and occasionally overlap when the story calls for it. Each will have a distinct feel and can be read separately but reading both will give you a bigger and possibly richer look at the continuity that will be unfolding over the course of the next year. This is just the tip of the iceberg folks. Batman and Detective kick off a full year of action, adventure and tons of character development (and a few surprises along the way)! If you are expecting things to go a certain way, forget about it. This is DC2 and words like 'safe' or 'comfortable' will not be used to describe things around here! Just sit back and enjoy the ride. I know I already am and I don't see a whammy in sight
