What is UP with Bullock? Is he good? Is he bad? Is he bald? These are all the questions I ask myself when reading Batman lately. And I love it. Better than part one, almost certainly going to be better than part three! ONWARDS AND UPWARDS, BRIAN! SHOW ME UP!

Great issue. I enjoyed it a lot. Especially liked the handling of Nightwing.

I don't know what it is (maybe it's just me being curmudgeonly), but I am really getting to the point where I dread Nightwing guest-spots in a Batman title. His appearance always seems to bring up the same daddy issues, which are periodically resolved, only to resurface again the next time he visits Gotham. And then there is Dick's tendancy to psychoanalyze Bruce, as if Bruce were emotionally retarded (which, in these cases, Bruce can appear to be). I mean, I know Batman has issues, and that the events of this crossover are pretty hard on him, but it would be nice to see some emotional/psychological development--- after all, not even Superman can save everyone...!
That being said, this really didn't bother me as much as I make it sound. This sort of thing is part and parcel of a Batman story, I suppose, and Brian writes this title exceptionally well. I tried to put this down halfway-through so I could get to work, but I just couldn't. From the minute Batman busts through the Penguin's front door, to that last spray of gunfire, I was enthralled! I definately didn't see the double cliffhanger coming, and I can't wait to read the next installment.
Ramon, fantastic cover (but as of this morning, it still isn't on the main page)! What a great comic book image! Batman looks like he's about to get up and put a serious hurting on the Penguin!

Thanks for the kind words, folks. I have found that writing Batman and his extended family (everyone see Dave flinch at that? ;D) is way more difficult then I realized. Everybody seems to have their own take on what and who Batman should be. Not that there's anything wrong with any of them. One of the things I wanted to do with Nightwing was to show the readers that yes, he does still have a bit of unease in the back of his mind (I'm 40 and I have the same unease when I'm around my 70 year old father), but that both he and Babs have grown as well. Not only that, but by Batman turning the car around, after the comment from Nightwing, I wanted to show that our hero has also turned a small corner when it comes to others advice. At least that was what I was wanting to convey.

The Batman-Nightwing banter was cool, and their teamwork as seen through the mobster's eyes. Batman's rage at both the mob and the Penguin was well written too. I thought he WAS gonna break some of Penguin's bones, there. Maybe he should have, cuz Penguin was obviously holding something back.
Dick and Babs let their emotions get the better of them, though. Bruce left Dick there to help guard Gordon, and they both went out for coffee at the same time? Oopsie. Granted, not even the two of them together will be able to take Deathstroke, but they could hold him long enough, I think.
Very well plotted and paced!

Thanks for the feedback Arcalian! Penguin is holding something back? Hmmm.... And it's cool that you picked up on Dick and Babs quick trip to the cafeteria as well. Stay tuned to #16 for a bit more on these two. But first, get ready to read Batman #16 in a few short weeks. Talk about mayhem and chaos! And Ramon, awesome cover!!! Penguin never looked so good!

All I gotta say is, Dick better get into that hospital room real quick, or else Babs is in for a serious hurtin'. I've notcied that this Black Mask is very flippant, much like he's written recently in DCU. He wasn't originally like that, he was a pretty serious guy. Not a complaint, just observation.

Thanks for reading, Susan! Yes, Barbara looks like she's in a bit of trouble, but with Deathstroke on the scene, I'd say everyone is!
Charlie and I are trying to show the many different quirks that make up the personality of Roman. Trust me when I say, he's going to get a lot more serious.
don't forget to check out Batman #16 which comes out in a couple of weeks. I just read part 3 and it's awesome!

wow, thanks. Like with Dave in New Outsiders, it's been quite a while since I've walked the old halls of the DC2 Batman stories. I have to admit that next to NO, this is the title I really had the most fun writing at this point. Even more so when Chris and I were writing it together. Hmm... perhaps someday Chris and I should do an encore performance.
