I'll say right now, this issue was a blast to be a part of (er, no pun intended). Fantastic work, a really huge story, but everything was always clear and easy to keep track of no matter how complex it got. And the taco bell joke had me laughing really hard XD

Bloody hell. This was... Crikey. Ok.
Tense, taut, terrifying... Ttttttterrific.
Brian, you out do yourself, and this tying up of a thread from your NO run was a very clever move. Every story beat was just... Awesome. Amazing. Astonishing. I can't... There aren't many words.
Bravo. Five stars.

This was so incredibly awesome. It has entered my top 5 of stories in this site, really. It's THAT awesome.
I Bawwww'd at the part with the hobo dying and not eating his meal.
The Joker made me laugh and be scared. He was absolutely awesome.
The explosions. I love explosions.
The only bad thing I can say about this issue is completely subjective. I didn't like your Alfred. I didn't hate him, no, just didn't like him.

I loved Alfred! But I can see where Seb is coming from I *think*, because Bruce is pushing everyone away, and Alfred is being pushed and pushed but he refuses to budge. So that's causing tension, and eventually, it made him go a bit cold today. He's sarcastic, caustic, amazing, and Alfred. He's the only one who truly... Cares? I think. So if Seb really thinks that, I'll find him, and slap him upt side of the head. Dammit, Seb!

Wow...Fantastic issue. Seriously. Like I said in this week's DC2 nation, this is one of your best stories. Period.
And really, when I told you to go ahead and wreck Gotham City I was expecting a bang or two...but holy crap on a stick man! When you say you are blowing up Gotham, you mean it!
Your portrayal of Batman as a guy worn down by circumstances is pitch perfect. And I don't think Alfred appeared uncaring at all. Rather he is the voice of reason when compared to his boss, who is under a massive amount of stress. The source of his tension with Bruce is exactly as Charlie notes.
This was just a fantastic issue!

I didn't thought he was uncaring. I think he wasn't caring enough. You know, I like Alfred being the one who better understands the Bat (maybe after the Joker). Kind of like in the first part of Final Crisis with Morrison over at the DCU. But like I said, personal opinion, and it didn't substract anything from the reading.
Also, my new favorite phrase: When Brian says he is going to blow up Gotham, he means it.

Very september 11th vibe here.
And Tim was right, of course. But then, Bruce has been morally compromising himself all the way back to his agreeing to let Ra's train him.
The scene with Selena was a very tender moment.

Brian, I know I told you by email already but this is fantastic! I felt Bruce's horror and Selina's shock... You are a master at this. Bravo!

And the taco bell joke had me laughing really hard XD A ton of the credit goes to you for this story. You took many of these scene's and made them so much better. I am lucky and honored to have you as Editor. Thank you for you thoughts, idea's, and patience. And glad you liked the Taco Bell joke.

It took a couple of years, but those Animates of Jokers are finally taken care of. Your words mean a lot. Thank you much!

This was so incredibly awesome. It has entered my top 5 of stories in this site, really. It's THAT awesome. Wow! That is quite an honor with so many incredibly awesome stories on this site. I am very humbled. I actually thought the scene felt silly at the time, but I really wanted readers to understand that what Joker was doing was affecting all walks of life. I almost snuffed out a dog sitting in front of a pizza joint, but thought better of it. Thank you much. Grant and I both have tried hard to make Joker as scary and dangerous as he really should be. Glad to see you appreciate it. Who doesn't love explosions! I'll pick up on this one a bit further down.

Actually, I had made Alfred much colder, but the wisdom of my Editor made me realize that I could have gone over the edge. And don't worry about Charlie, Seb, he's mostly harmless... his goons, on the other hand...

Wow...Fantastic issue. Seriously. Like I said in this week's DC2 nation, this is one of your best stories. Period. Thank you, Sir! And thank you SO much for the awefully nice things you said in the DC2 Nation. Working with you on this has been a wonderful experience and I'm very glad that you let me jump on board with you. You are really a master craftsman and I've loved every minute of it. errr... surprise? ;D Again, thank you. I honestly never wanted Alfred to come across uncaring... and now I'm REALLY glad that Mockingbird talked me out of my original scene. But just like Batman, who is being worn down by all of this, I wanted to show Alfred having those same feelings. Just as I think you are doing with James Gordon as well. This entire event is wearing down everyone, as it should be. I can't wait for issue #30 of Batman!

I think it's great that you felt that Alfred wasn't caring enough, because that's an honest feeling and opinion that you took away from that part of the story, and one that, as I just stated, wasn't far off. Batman has about had it, James Gordon has about had it, Lord knows that the people of Gotham have had it, so why should Alfred be any different at this point... he's just as human as everyone else. LOL! Well, I did warn him. ;D

Very september 11th vibe here. Very astute, Jay. I was hoping for a bit of that feeling, especially with Wayne Tower. You are right, and I think Grant explains it best in his interview in the DC2 Nation, this week. Batman is complex for so many different reasons, and really is a contradictory. Glad you liked it. It was one of my favorite scenes. What I realized after it went up and I read it again, however, was that I may have stepped on some toes with this little revelation, and if I have, I truly apologize to those parties. It was not my intention.

Brian, I know I told you by email already but this is fantastic! I felt Bruce's horror and Selina's shock... You are a master at this. Bravo! WOW! Coming from one of the people here that I hold as a real master at this, I'm left speechless. All I can say is thank you... and I'm sorry I didn't open your email earlier. Thank you Ellen for your words of encouragement and advice. They mean a lot!

Is there anything you can't write? Hell yes!: Wonder Woman, Superman, Flash, Aquaman, The Question, Jonah Hex, and that's just off the top of my head. Thanks Roy, and glad you got that line. LOL! I'm also glad the reveal worked for you. I was very nervous about that.

Holy...oh God, that was...I'm scared, man, really scared about what condition Gotham will be in once this story is done.
I do have to point out two moments that had me giggle and release some of that tension, though. The first is when Gordon channels his screen alter-ego Gary Oldman and echoes his line from "The Professional": "Bring in everyone. EVERYONE!" Second is this:
“That’s alright, Alfred. I’ll grab some Taco Bell.”
“You will not!” Alfred nearly shouted with indignation as he shoved the sandwich into the heroes gloved hand. “It wasn’t funny the first time you said it, and it still isn’t.”
You almost made me do a spit-take on that!

Holy...oh God, that was...I'm scared, man, really scared about what condition Gotham will be in once this story is done. Can't blame you for that. I knew when Grant and I chose to use Joker, and I was given the pleasure of his part of the story, that when you bring in the Crown Prince of Crime, it has to be big, and you've got to make Bat's feel it. Finding something new was difficult, there wasn't much that Joker hadn't taken away form him, but taking away Gotham! Now that, he's going to feel for a while... YES!!! You got it! Excellent! I'm a huge Gary Oldman fan, and I'm glad someone caught that.
“That’s alright, Alfred.
glad that went well, I was nervous about that one. But I remember seeing the commercial for that and it rubbed me wrong for many, many years. Yes, I was projecting. LOL! Thanks for reading and responding, Susan!

Wow. Powerful and nasty as all hell. That's what this was.
The Joker's plan was brutal.
Excellent story. My only issue is with Batman's refusal to get proper help. If he's THAT dedicated to Gotham, he would have found a way to use the JL or other heroes for the situation. He's refusal to do so borders on flat out stupidity.
Great issue. Just great.

Thank you and glad you enjoyed it. I can't speak for Grant's reasoning, but I always felt that Batman (being human and a man who can be ruled by his emotions more than he would admit) did make a horribly bad call by not contacting the JL. But sometimes pride can be a powerful and deadly creature.

Very powerful and amazing work with this issue - I loved the sick ingenuity of the Joker in this story, both with the J bombs and the nose-trap that set them off. You write this like very few others can (no offence to anyone else)! Five stars and a whole lot more!
