I have to say, I'm extremely proud of this first issue from new Detective Comics writer Alex Vasquez. From Firestorm to this title, by way of a fill-in on the main Batman title, this is a cool gig for a really cool writer, and I can't wait to see what he has in store for us readers. This issue is accessible for new readers, features familiar faces, and strikes up a cool dynamic between Batman and Orpheus.
Whilst I felt that Orpheus beat on Batman quite easily, the explanation worked well, and it's cool to see Black Mask's plans move out of the main Bat title and into this. I'm loving your dialogue, your narrative sense, and your use of characters, and the introduction of Flesh-Monger (who, chronologically, makes her first appearance next week in Batman #40, but shows her true power here, before that) is wonderfully sadistic, and I can't wait to see more of her.
An awesome package, with a brilliant cover and a brilliant story, this arc looks to be a cool place to enter the Bat-books right now, and considering the stuff Alex, and others, have planned for them? You better start reading!

Pretty good, I'm glad to see Orpheus in action finally. Can't wait to see what you do with him.

Liked the issue a lot. Is it bad that Flesh-Monger scared the hell out of me? Cause she did... The cover was absolutely amazing as well!

Yeah, Flesh Monger was creepy as hell! Great job on that. A really good issue. Something didn't feel quite right to me, but not enough to stop me from enjoying a terrific issue. I just can't place my finger on it... But I'll be back because you hooked me, that's for sure.

I don't often poke my head over into the shadowy Bat-corner of the DC2niverse, but Alex's name in the credits convinced me to take a look. I really enjoyed his Batman fill-in, and thought I'd give this a shot.
And I am glad I did! This is good stuff, terrific characterization and a writerly approach to a hitherto unexplored area of Gotham. I don't know anything about Orpheus (other than what I read here), so I'm not sure if he's an extablished character or one created for this arc, but his story is compelling (and unexpectedly timely, given the brouhaha with Prof. Gates this week in the "Real World"); looking forward to seeing how this develops.
Liking the dynamic between Dick and Tim, in fact this issue had an overall novel approah I felt was refreshing. You Bat-creators are doing some cool stuff lately, keep up the good work.
Awesome cover! For some reason, Batman just seems to inspire the coolest images. Nice find, Charlie.

Orpheus was around for a couple of years, and then got killed in War Games. Which was a shame, he was a pretty cool character.
