Apart from one line, this issue was all Alex, and what an issue it was! We've been playing around with timelines in this arc, issues and events running simultaneously to each other across the books, but with this issue, things synch up. I thought that the tension and suspense was ramped up to extremes as this story went on, but I'll get to that later.
The continuing breakdown of Jason Todd a marvel to watch, and the realisation of his parentage grizzly to the last. This character has come so far since he was first introduced, and I always love to see "DC2 exclusive" character[isation] on site, for instance a lot of the characters in New Outsiders, Kyle Rayner, Hank Henshaw, and a lot of the DC3 envisionings etc. It's just a breath of fresh air to see characters doing something we haven't seen them do before, and it relieves me that we have the creativity and choice of mind to pursue that, unlike many other fan fiction sites. There's a reason I read fan-fiction, and it's not to read lazy copyings of events and characters in their actual universes.
Anways, I digress. The scenes in the Cave were some of the scariest I've read this year, and the reveal a gut punch that I think none of you will have seen coming. The boss meeting was another beautiful realisation-- Alex seems to be doing a lot of work with these guys, and he blows me away every time I read their scenes. They're so fully realised in this place that it's like they were always in Gotham, you know?
All-in-all, this was one of the best Detective Comics issues I've read this year, and I can't wait to see where Alex goes with the title!

It wasn't bad, but it's getting weighed down by the cast again. With Boss Synth, I had to stop and ask myself "Which one is he again?" and "What's he done before this?" and before I could really get interested in him, he was taken out; rather unceremoniously. I liked the Jason Todd scene, and the events inside the cave. Both were handled very nicely, and I hope that The Wrath is expanded on. At the moment he just seems to be hopping around, with no clear direction. Overall though, it was still well written, and delivered reasonably well. I'll be back for the next issue, that's for certain.

Still WAY behind in my reading. JSA I'm looking at you next! This was well written with several scene's that were emotionally charaged. Have to admit I thought the same thing Babs and Talia did.
Not sure where Jason is headed at this point, but I'm enjoying the ride.

Have to admit I thought the same thing Babs and Talia did. I bloody loved that moment. I was reading, and it wasn't in the issue-by-issue breakdowns, and I was thinking "What's Alex doing? Where's he going with this?" and the reveal itself made me grin. Fantastic writing, right there.
