All the gathering storm and pounding energy you'd expect of an origin issue. Is Danton Black going to become Major Force in this continuity?

Well, I've never been a huge fan of Firestorm, but this was a very interesting beginning, that's for sure. Well written piece with a nice cliff hanger ending. Although I do have the same question that Arclian has.
Nice job, I'll be back!

I wasn't overly impressed with this issue. It was a zero issue, which I guess offers a bit of a limitation on the content, but then, I'm not a fan of the "zero issue" concept. It might fit in some places, but overall, just get out that "first issue" (which this is) and get going.
I'm also not a fan of the "Matrix" concept of the Firestorm origin, so seeing it used here was disappointing to me. I also found a tremendous amount of exposition to explain who everyone was and how we got here. There was nothing gripping, nothing much to hang the characters on since we don't get to see much of them in action. I'll come back for the next issue since really, I see no reason why any and every series on this site can't be deserving of two or three entries for real judgment, but so far, I look for more story, more character, and less being told what is what like a textbook.
Take care Don

I haven't read it yet, but I just have to say that Borize made a great cover. I can't think of anybody who would be a better fit to this title than Borize.

Thanks for the feedback everyone, I appreciate it. To answer arcalian and Starlord's question, yes, Danton Black is going to be a major force. For Don, I'm not a big fan of the zero issue concept, but i found it was something that would be warranted in this case since Firestorm's origin was already told in All-Star #6 and I wanted to add some elements to it that the 4 paragraph origin didn't touch upon. Sorry you're not a big fan of the Matrix concept. It's going to be a big part of the series, kinda like the speed force is in the Flash. As far as the exposition, it's something i thought was necessary encase someone starts reading and hasn't read All-Star #6 or doesn't know anything about Firestorm. One of the complaints i have about comic Fan-Fiction is that a lot of writers tend to assume that the reader has an extensive knowledge of the character(s) they are writing about and tend to neglect to mention the background of the characters and their appearance. I know most of the people that are reading this series will probably have an understanding of the character(s), and most of the stuff I read is about characters i like but when I try to read a piece about characters i'm either unfamiliar with or know nothing about, when stuff like background and appearance, it turns me off and I assume it would do the same to others in a similar situation so i felt the need to include the exposition issue #0 contained. The reason why i did the 0 issue was to re-introduce the characters and expound on them a little, and if that came across like a textbook and bored you then I guess I apologize, but I felt it was necessary and hope you continue to read the series and like the upcoming issues more.

I once wrote two issues of a Firestorm origin series. No joke. And this... This is so much better than THAT feeble exercise. ... Thought it did have its moments Good work Alex. I for one, do not mind the Matrix concept of Firestorm, and thought it was extremelly well written after the IC tie ins/OYL jump of the DCU book. I enjoyed the earlier issues (especially the Bloodhound crossover ) but the OYL direction was more to my liking. Anyway, as I was saying, bravo

Good first issue, Alex. I was a fan of Firestorm during his first run (in the late 70s, I believe?), and this harkens back to that, but with a modern spin. I'm not a big fan of the Matrix version, either, but I can see it working well in this context.
Terrific cover, Riz! I, too, think you have the perfect style to draw this character. Hope you stick around on this title for a while.
I will be back for next issue!

Thanks Dave and Charlie for taking the time to read and leave feedback. I'm a big fan of the 80s Firestorm series that was written by Conway and Ostrander and that will have a big influence on my run here (especially once i stop being lazy and fish all 100 issues out of my various long boxes).
My original proposal for the series here was to update it with the newer stuff, including using Jason as Firestorm, but that was scratched when i found out Ronnie was already established, so I tweaked it to use Ronnie and I think it's going to work out just as well.
I hope you two like what's coming up.

The idea of Firestorm being able to carry a solo title is a tricky one. Firestorm is admittedly an acquired taste, and may not appeal to wide audiences. It can also be argued that in order to properly tell the story of Firestorm, a writer needs to understand both the mindset of a college student and a nuclear physicist. That's a bit of a tall order.
I think you may have that balance needed. Of course this was a short introduction and was over before it started.
I liked how you tied into Allstars #6 and gave some background on both Stein and Ronnie. I also liked how you brought in Danton Black who I believe is Multiplex not Major Force.
I have no problem with the Matrix concept being incorporated into the series. There are some interesting twists that can come from it.
Not a bad start overall. I look forward to seeing what you do next issue.
Of course is goes without saying (but I will say it anyway) that Riz flat out kicked ass with the cover! Seeing your work here on the site is always a treat.

I think you may have that balance needed. Of course this was a short introduction and was over before it started. Thanks for reading John and taking the time to let me know what you think. The college student is part is a lot easier to write (since i still am one), while the nuclear physicist takes a little bit of research, but it has given me some interesting ideas for things Firestorm can use. I'm kinda pissed because McDuffee in the JLA Wedding issue used an idea for Firestorm's powers that I had, so I may have to re-think that one. I'm surprised no one else complained about the length. It was made this short intentionally, because i always thought that zero issues were used to recap stuff that's already happened and lead into the series. The next two issues are double the size of issue 0 and that's pretty much going to be the norm (about 4000 words). Tying it into the gap in All-Star #6 just made it easier to do the series and have in the Challenge without worrying about stepping on anyone's toes. You're right about Danton, i thought the others were asking if he was going to be a major force, meaning someone who was going to be a major player in the series, not Major Force, the Woman in Refrigerators guy. Danton is going to cause a lot trouble for Ronnie and the professor in my run. That's the reason why I brought it in. The Matrix will reveal it's nature further into the DC Challenge and in this series as well. Please, exalt Riz, he's awesome. He took the idea i had for the cover and just made it so much better than i imagined. I hope he sticks around Firestorm for a while. Thanks again for reading and leaving your thoughts.
