That was truly amazing. Truly truly truly. The whole time I was freaking out over well everything! When Barry went all speed forceish and kicked the crap out of Thawne I was like yeah!!! But then Thawne went after Carrie and I was like no! Then she fell through the timestream and I was like whoah...just whoah...I couldn't believe what was going on. And the twist that Carrie's Meloni was just awesome. A masterful story! And that's an understatement, Kevin! I think at the current moment Legacy of the Lightning is in my top 3 if not my #1 favorite story on the site! It was just EPIC. Everything about it. And I can't wait to see what kinda cool stuff we get with the new status quo.
And in my opinion LEGACY OF THE LIGHTNING beats the hell out of the last like 3-4 years of Flash stories from DCU! Well done!

Absolutely amazing, and totally worth the wait.
This will go down as one of the greatest Flash epics anywhere, and ranks up there with the best of the DC2!
I am frankly in awe of this issue, and story as a whole. It has everything: desperate acts, thrilling action, complex villains, valiant heroes, surprise twists, head-shaking wonder, heartbreaking tragedy and bittersweet triumphant. Not only that, it manages to live up to the hype: the Flash's life will neve be the same!
Just... wow, Feeney. I salute you, man. I really, really enjoyed this. This is the kind of issue we all aspire to write, that makes us all bring up our game.
Will we see "Meloni" again? Is Thawne really dead? What does Barry's new staus quo mean for him, his family and his friends? I can't wait to see where this goes next ;D.
Magnificent cover, Scott. A bright, dynamic image pregnant with action ready to explode of the page, perfect for this issue.
A few typos distract a bit, but nothing can detract from the glory that is this issue. Five stars, unreservedly, exuberantly!

A few typos distract a bit, but nothing can detract from the glory that is this issue. Five stars, unreservedly, exuberantly! Yeah, I warned Kevin about this. I was editing it... then slowly but surely I just became absorbed in the story, and I wasn't reading it as an editor anymore, but as a fan. I take any and all the blame for not spotting the typos! I just adored reading this story!

First, there are three things that have to be said. Thanks to Scott for stepping in to do the cover after Doc vanished. It's a fantastic one, particularly the way the logo is emblazoned in the background, and the fact that it was unscheduled only heightens my gratitude. Secondly, thanks to Charlie for writing that extremely charitable introduction for the issue which caught me by complete surprise. As I said to him when I first saw it, I very much doubt that this Annual is the best book he's edited, but I'm honoured by the compliment. And thirdly, my apologies to everyone who reads 'The Flash' that the book was so unforgivably late. Internet problems followed by computer problems followed by a holiday all interfered, but I'm confident it can return to a monthly schedule- with another issue this month- for these last few months that I'm on the book. The delays were entirely my fault, and I won't allow anything comparable to happen again. That out of the way... I felt bad writing that, because I knew when I did what was coming next. And well, I guess it lulls both Barry and the reader into a false sense of security as Thawne gets beaten down so easily, which hopefully heightens the pain of the loss of Carrie. And as for what exactly happened with Barry, Thawne gave a bit of a summary but that plot point's not done; stay tuned, true believers! I've been waiting quite a while to write that, and it was immensely satisfying to get it out there. And a little heartbreaking... especially once I decided that Iris should be there too. I actually wasn't that happy with it in writing it; but if you feel I've done justice to it, I can only say I'm ecstatic. Wow. That is once again extremely lavish praise, and I can just thank you for it. I wasn't totally satisfied when I finished this Annual, and I was afraid that the finale would let down people who liked the first three installments, but I'm really glad that wasn't the case with you anyway, Pat! All I can say is, The Flash #34 will be out later this month, and it takes place in the month Barry and Iris are gone... But yeah, I'm hopeful that people will like it, because once I've established the status quo fully, I'll be off the book. And hopefully I haven't left my successor too much of a mes! Normally I like to dissect replies, but I'm just blown away by such effusive praise. Dave, you've been more than generous with your comments on every issue of this story, but here.... yeesh. I guess all I can do is repeat that I'm overjoyed (And more than a little relieved) that 'Legacy of the Lightning' as a whole has recieved such a fantastic response. When Charlie offered me the Flash, I wasn't sure whether or not I had stories to tell, even though I knew I loved the character and the mythos. So I sat down on night 1 and brainstormed- and this is the story I came up with. And to see that each and every installment of it has been recieved with SUCH warmth, and to say such incredible praise heaped upon it- particularly from you and Charlie, as two of the founders of the site- is really more gratifying than I can say. So thank you, Dave, for praise that goes beyond kindness. ;D

Very glad to see your work again, Scott! As for you, Kevin...you made me cry, you jerk! I realized what was coming the moment Carrie fell through time, and the tears just started to flow. The end was unbelieveably perfect. Congrats, you won "Best Book of 2009" already! Along with the newly-minted prize for "Best Reference Line": The fate of Barry Allen is not to die saving the multiverse, or to run a final race against a God of Evil. I’m going to die right here. Right now. Centuries from home, in an uneven brawl with a man who has every right to hate me.I thought Barry really was going to die after reading that. Or Thawne would get his neck broke. Something. But not what you gave us. Did I mention that the end was unbelieveably perfect? 'Cause it was. One problem, though: unless my memory's fuzzy (which it can be) you said Barry's twin brother had been adopted by the Thawnes, right? And Eobard Thawne married Meloni, who was really Barry's daughter. So...is it still incest if there's 300 years between them? Yeah, I know, I just ruined this beautiful book with my filthy thinking. Sorry, I had to do it, I'm too dang jealous. ADDED 4/14: Read the new epilogue. It's still good, baby. Think of it as the cherry on top of the world's greatest hot fudge sundae. Mmmmm...hot fudge sundae... ;D

OK, I have to admit a mistake. One that you all rightly should pelt stones at me for. I'm serious. I'll even provide the stones. Small ones. Light ones. Not heavy ones. Get real.
So. The mistake: I didn't post up the entire story.
I know, right?
Anyway, after a mad panic between Kevin and myself, the final version of the story is up (an addition of an Epilogue that perfectly caps the story) for your viewing pleasure. I hope this helps to enhance your reading pleasure, and I think it will answer any lingering questions you might have (apart from the ones that'll be answered in the ongoing book itself!).
Again, I apologise, and I hope to hear what you think of Kevin's bloody great behemoth of a story.
I mean seriously, it's massive. I couldn't fit it all in one post...

(pelts Charlie with stone) Now that that's taken care of ;D... Just read the newly added Epilogue and yeah as was said, perfect cap off to the story. A Happy Ending indeed. Once again...FANTASTIC STORY.

Nice.I inferred this ending already from clues in the story, but this puts a nice little bow on the whole epic package. So no harm done . I reserve the right to throw my stones at Charlie on some future occassion.

I'm so blown away by this entire story that I don't know where to begin. I've read about 95% of this board for the last four years and although I have rarely been dissapointed in anything put here, THIS, is just... just beyond everything else that has come before it.
As a writer, I'm so envious and blown away. The fact that not only did you make each issue of this arc a non-stop, riveting, emotionally charged thrill ride, but that you were able to make the main antagonist as moving and sympethetic as the protagonist is just brilliant!
As a father... I cried at the end of this. I felt this. Many stories here have moved me, but none has shook me to my emotional core like this one did.
The cover is simplistic and riveting, saying it all in one classic and beautiful pose.
There is not enough words to describe just what an A+ piece of work this is. I tip my hat, I give you a standing ovation, and 5 stars. Thank you for this. Thank you for one helluva an emotional roller coaster.

As I said in the PM, Susan, the idea of stirring tears with something I wrote? Wow. That's pretty much... well, I could hope for no more than that. And 2009's not even half over, there's a lot of great books still to come, a new writer to take over Flash... don't get me wrong, I WELCOME the praise but I wouldn't be so quick to label this the best of 2009 just yet... In a very early draft of the story, plotted out back in... was it really a year ago now? I think it was... Well, in the very first drafts, Thawne's neck was indeed going to be broken. And at one stage the idea of Barry dying had been floated. But I felt both were too predictable and well, there were better ways to do it. ...The very end though was indeed in place before issue #24 was even begun. HAH! As if you of all people had anything to be jealous about! Actually, this did occur to me. Meloni Thawne being Carrie was not always part of the plan and when I came up with it, I thought it clicked so perfectly that I wanted to make sure no-one would guess it before this issue. (Hell, I even kept it secret from Charlie until the last moment) And, well, once I was dealing with Thawnes and whatnot, I wanted to leave it open if another writer wants to bring in Cobalt Blue, so I kept that link intact. I was initially hesitant precisely because of this but I figured hey, over 300 years and lord knows how many generations, surely there's been enough distance for it to no longer be incest. I henceforth decree that it is officially so in the DC2 universe anyway. And once again... thank you! While I'm glad to hear it was suitably foreshadowed within the story I just really, really wanted to write 'A Happy Ending'. It was the only way to sate my conscience after ripping Barry and Iris' baby from them on the night she was born just after killing his father... A right we can all but cherish dearly! Wow. Every time I think people cannot be more generous with their praise, something like this comes along... From you, Brian, that means a GREAT deal and... well, thank you. Just... thank you. I have to confess, I felt nearly as bad at doing that to Thawne as I did doing that to Barry and Iris. That's why I was determined that Thawne should find his own 'happy ending' too, after a fashion. I realise of course that some people who liked what was done with the character may not like the fact that he was killed in his 'first' story, but... well, I just felt that he was not the sort of villain who could be recurring. Because I knew as I wrote him that he would never, ever stop, not unless he died. Though I suppose running into the Speed Force means he could return, if some writer so desires. ...Wow. Two people with one issue? As a writer, I can't describe how much that means to me. Thank you, sir, for your incredibly generous words. In fact, I want to thank everyone so much. My DC3 stuff, my Marvel2 stuff, my early 'Flash', 'New Gods'- it all got a great response. But the response to 'LotL', from its prologue right through to this issue, has been absolutely phenomenal. I cannot describe how satisfying it is as a writer to have evoked such strong reactions with a story which I'd been planning for so long, and to have recieved such wonderful feedback from writers who far surpass me. In particular, thanks to Charlie for his advice, editing, council, and getting me on the book, and thanks to Doc Dread and Scott for their wonderful covers on this arc! And I hope you'll all stick around as I build up a new status quo in the next few issues before I head over to another book with my esteemed editor and leave 'The Flash' in very, very capable hands!
